A lovely little startup, I've stayed at Kasa locations before and adored them, but they usually have a ramp-up time to provide stellar yet cheap accommodations. Here, everything was absolutely wonderful except for an AC unit which dripped water all over the countertop. If that gets fixed (and ADA accessibility is addressed), it will be one of the best hotels in the city, especially at that price point.
Welcome to Kasa the Niche University City Philadelphia, an exceptional choice for travelers seeking modern, comfortable, and conveniently located accommodation in the heart of Philadelphia's academic hub. As part of the "Hotels Near Of Me" platform category, Kasa the Niche offers a compelling blend of service, features, and an inviting environment that caters to a diverse range of needs, from short visits to extended stays. Situated at 4003 Chestnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19104, USA, this aparthotel provides easy access to major universities, cultural attractions, and a vibrant local scene.
Kasa the Niche University City Philadelphia is nestled in the dynamic University City district, renowned for its academic institutions, including the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) and Drexel University. This strategic location makes it an ideal choice for prospective students, visiting faculty, families attending graduation ceremonies, or anyone looking to immerse themselves in the youthful energy of the area. The neighborhood itself is a cultural and culinary hotspot, brimming with diverse restaurants, charming cafes, shops, and various entertainment venues. Guests can easily explore local farmers' markets, adding an authentic touch to their Philadelphia experience. The immediate vicinity is highly walkable, allowing guests to stroll through the charming streets, and for longer distances, the area is well-served by Philadelphia's SEPTA system, including buses, trolleys, and subways. The LUCY shuttle is particularly convenient for those visiting UPenn, offering free rides for students and employees. Philadelphia International Airport is also easily accessible via SEPTA's Airport Line, located just 7 miles away.
The property itself offers a clean and modern environment. While it does not feature a traditional hotel lobby or a 24/7 on-site front desk, the common areas are well-maintained. It's worth noting that the property does not have elevators, meaning access to upper floors is via stairs only. Some guests have mentioned the stairs can be steep and narrow, which is something to consider for those with heavy luggage or mobility concerns. However, the overall atmosphere is designed to be inviting and comfortable, with thoughtful design and plush accents in the rooms, creating a cozy and welcoming escape.
Kasa the Niche operates on a tech-enabled model, prioritizing a seamless and contactless guest experience. This means that instead of a physical front desk, guests utilize a "Virtual Front Desk" accessible via their mobile devices. Check-in is self-service and contactless, with instructions and smart lock details sent via email 48 hours prior to arrival. This allows for convenient check-in from 4:00 PM onwards and check-out by 11:00 AM.
Despite the virtual approach, Kasa emphasizes comprehensive guest support. A dedicated 24/7 Guest Support Team is available via text, phone, or chat to assist with any needs or inquiries that may arise during a stay. This proactive support system ensures that guests receive prompt assistance even without a traditional on-site presence.
The rooms at Kasa the Niche are well-equipped to ensure a comfortable stay. Each unit offers:
Housekeeping services are available upon request for an additional cost per cleaning. It's important to note that the property has a strict no-smoking policy and does not allow parties or events. Quiet hours are enforced between 10:00 PM and 8:00 AM to ensure a peaceful environment for all guests. While street parking is available nearby, the property itself does not offer on-site parking.
One of the standout features of Kasa the Niche is its modern and minimalist design, which creates a clean and uncluttered ambiance. The emphasis on technology for check-in and guest support is a key differentiator, offering a streamlined and efficient experience for independent travelers. The availability of kitchenettes in many units transforms the stay from a typical hotel room to more of an apartment-style living, particularly beneficial for longer visits. This allows guests the flexibility to dine in, store groceries, and maintain a sense of home comfort.
The company behind Kasa the Niche, Kasa Living, is known for managing stylishly designed, professionally managed apartments and hotels, aiming to provide amenities and comforts that make guests feel at home. Their approach focuses on creating cozy environments with soft furniture and plush accents. The positive feedback often highlights the cleanliness of the units, the comfort of the beds, and the overall modern aesthetic. The reviews consistently praise the convenient location, especially for those visiting UPenn, and the ease of the automatic access and self-check-in process.
While specific current promotional offers are dynamic and best checked directly with Kasa's booking channels, the general appeal of Kasa the Niche lies in its excellent value proposition. Customers frequently comment on the competitive pricing for the quality and location offered. Many describe it as a "lovely little startup" that provides "stellar yet cheap accommodations," particularly once any minor issues are addressed. The feedback often emphasizes the convenience of the location for University City visitors, the modern and clean environment, and the utility of the kitchenette.
Based on customer reviews, Kasa the Niche is highly regarded for its prime location and its comfortable, clean, and modern living spaces. Guests appreciate the convenience of the kitchenette for short or extended stays. While minor issues like a dripping AC unit were noted in one review, these are typically addressed by the responsive Kasa Guest Support Team. The steep and narrow staircase has been mentioned by some, which is an important consideration for guests with specific needs. Overall, the sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently expressing their enjoyment and intention to return. The contactless check-in is consistently lauded for its efficiency and ease. This property offers a compelling alternative to traditional hotels, especially for those who value independence, modern amenities, and a central location in Philadelphia's academic heartland.

May 12, 2025 · John Gardiner IVReally enjoyed my stay at Kasa The Niche Perfect location for UPenn!!! Modern, comfortable and clean Kitchenette is so convenient for a short stay Minus: steep and narrow staircase; no space to hang your clothes
May 21, 2025 · Melanie SantulinThis hotel does not allow you to cancel if you make a mistake booking. They have no humans at the front desk so any questions you have are fielded to an off-site team which takes 24-96 hours to get back to you. Since their cancellations are valid until 11:59 the night of the reservation, you’d think it would be easy to cancel, but since there is no one at the front desk and they take so long to get back to you they can then claim that the expiration time for cancellation has passed even though it was THEIR team that took days to get back to you. They refused to answer Hotels.com regarding my cancellation for several days and ignored their calls. The customer service here is absolutely abysmal from start to finish.
Mar 24, 2025 · Silas KantorTerrible they locked there thermostat so you’re not able to cut the heat up or down. They have mice running around, not clean hair in the bed and when you contact management, they always say they’ll get back to you and never do wouldn’t recommend anybody to waste their money. The only thing was good about it was the location.
Jan 14, 2025 · Miatta HarrisWorst hotel experience we've ever had. They gave us wrong room. It supposed to have kitchen. What they provided was 4 walls around bed. We tried to contact their service, that supposed to be 24/7. Nobody responded, at all
