Good stay overall, but with some drawbacks. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The outdoor pool was a nice feature, and our room was clean. However, the bathroom door didn’t lock, which was a bit inconvenient. The biggest downside was the breakfast—it’s very basic and could definitely be improved. Also, the hotel garage is extremely overpriced at $65 plus tax per night. I first thought that is the price for a room. I parked just 0.4 miles away for $15 per 24 hours, which is a much better option.

Hyatt Place Washington DC/US Capitol Introduce

For us Washington D.C. locals, whether we’re planning a staycation, hosting visitors, or need a convenient spot for business, understanding the nuances of a hotel is key. The Hyatt Place Washington DC/US Capitol offers a familiar brand name with a modern approach, designed for the contemporary traveler who appreciates seamless stays. Situated in the burgeoning NoMa neighborhood, it provides a practical base for exploring our vibrant city. While it boasts appealing features like an outdoor pool and robust security, it's also important to consider recent guest experiences, which highlight some areas for improvement, particularly regarding breakfast and parking costs. This means that while the hotel offers a clean room and a comfortable bed, managing expectations about certain amenities will help ensure a positive experience. Ultimately, the Hyatt Place aims to provide a reliable and convenient option for those looking to be well-connected to D.C.'s major attractions and business hubs, all while offering the peace of mind that comes with good security and the option of a refreshing outdoor dip.

The Hyatt Place Washington DC/US Capitol is conveniently located at 33 New York Ave NE, Washington, DC 20002, USA. This address places it in the vibrant and rapidly developing NoMa (North of Massachusetts Avenue) neighborhood of Washington, D.C. For locals, NoMa is known for its blend of modern office buildings, residential complexes, and a growing array of dining and retail options, making it a dynamic part of the city.

One of the significant advantages of this location is its exceptional accessibility to key transportation hubs and popular D.C. attractions. The hotel is situated within reasonable walking distance of Union Station, a major transportation nexus for Metro (Red Line), Amtrak, and MARC commuter rail. This proximity means you can easily connect to all of Washington D.C.'s iconic landmarks, museums, governmental buildings, and business districts, including the National Mall, Smithsonian museums, and Capitol Hill, often without needing to drive. This makes it an excellent base for tourists and business travelers alike who wish to utilize D.C.'s efficient public transit system.

The hotel is also located close to several specific points of interest for locals:

  • US Capitol Building: As its name suggests, it offers convenient access to the U.S. Capitol, making it ideal for those visiting legislative offices or attending events on the Hill.
  • Gallaudet University: The hotel is very close to Gallaudet University, which is a significant highlight for visitors affiliated with the university.
  • Union Market: A popular local food hub with diverse vendors and eateries, offering a great culinary experience within walking distance.
  • Nationals Park: While not directly adjacent, it's a relatively short Metro ride or drive to the stadium for baseball fans.
  • Walter E. Washington Convention Center: Also easily accessible via a short Metro ride, making it suitable for convention attendees.

For those arriving by car, the hotel offers on-site parking in its garage for a significant surcharge (reportedly $65 plus tax per night), which guests have noted as "extremely overpriced." However, alternatives exist, with one guest successfully finding parking "just 0.4 miles away for $15 per 24 hours," indicating that more affordable off-site parking options are available nearby with a bit of a "hike." The hotel's location also provides relatively easy access to major roadways for those driving in from Maryland or Virginia.

The Hyatt Place Washington DC/US Capitol provides a standard array of services and amenities common to the Hyatt Place brand, aiming to offer convenience and comfort. While some guest experiences suggest areas for improvement, here's a general overview of what is typically offered:

  • Comfortable Guest Rooms: The hotel features 200 air-conditioned guestrooms designed with separate living and sleeping areas. Rooms typically include a Hyatt Grand Bed®, a Cozy Corner sofa-sleeper, a 42-inch flat-screen HDTV with Chromecast, a mini-fridge, coffee maker, and a work desk. Free Wi-Fi is available.
  • Complimentary Breakfast: The hotel offers a daily complimentary breakfast for guests. However, it's worth noting that recent guest reviews describe the breakfast as "very basic" and suggest it "could definitely be improved," with it sometimes being "cleaned up early."
  • Outdoor Pool: A notable amenity, the hotel features an outdoor pool, which guests have appreciated as a "nice feature" for relaxation.
  • 24/7 Dining Options:
    • The Market: A 24/7 Grab & Go market offering a variety of packaged meals, salads, snacks, and beverages.
    • Coffee to Cocktails Bar: Serves Starbucks coffee in the morning and a selection of beer, wine, and cocktails in the evening.
  • Fitness Center: A 24-hour fitness center is available for guests to maintain their workout routines.
  • Meeting Spaces: The hotel provides flexible meeting and event spaces, equipped with audiovisual technology.
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, allowing guests to stay connected.
  • On-Site Parking: Covered self-parking is available in the hotel garage for a significant daily surcharge (reported as $65 plus tax). Valet parking may also be an option at a similar high cost.
  • Pet-Friendly Policy: The hotel is pet-friendly, allowing pets for an additional fee (e.g., $75 for stays up to 6 nights, then an additional $100 for 7-30 nights). Service animals are exempt.
  • 24-Hour Front Desk: A 24-hour front desk is available to assist guests with check-in, check-out, and general inquiries.
  • Enhanced Security: The hotel features "room card scanners on both entrances and the elevator" and often has "valet almost always standing at duty inside the front entrance," enhancing guest safety.

While the hotel lists these services, guest feedback indicates that some aspects, such as the breakfast quality and the functionality of certain in-room features like bathroom door locks or air conditioning, might be inconsistent.

The Hyatt Place Washington DC/US Capitol offers several features and highlights that contribute to its appeal, even amidst some guest feedback points for improvement.

  • Excellent Security Measures: This is a significant highlight for guests. The hotel employs "room card scanners on both entrances and the elevator," and has "valet almost always standing at duty inside the front entrance," providing a strong sense of safety and peace of mind. This attention to security is highly valued in an urban environment.
  • Convenient NoMa Location: The hotel is situated in an "overall nice part of town" with "lots of walkable things nearby," including Union Market. Its proximity to Union Station provides exceptional access to the entire D.C. Metro system, making it easy to reach all major attractions and business centers. It's also very close to Gallaudet University and offers convenient access to the US Capitol.
  • Outdoor Pool: The presence of an outdoor pool is a "nice feature" for relaxation and recreation, especially during warmer months, offering a refreshing escape within the city.
  • Clean Rooms and Comfortable Beds: Despite other issues, guests generally find the rooms to be "clean" and appreciate the "comfortable" beds. The "bathrooms and shower were a nice size," providing ample space.
  • Spacious Rooms with Separate Areas: The Hyatt Place brand's design, with separate sleeping and living areas and a Cozy Corner sofa-sleeper, provides more space and flexibility than a traditional hotel room, particularly useful for families or longer stays.
  • Pet-Friendly: The hotel welcomes pets, making it a viable option for those traveling with their furry companions.
  • Responsive Staff for Issues: While issues like AC problems arose, the staff reportedly "taught us how to reset it from our room and that fixed it," indicating a level of responsiveness and ability to resolve problems, even if recurring.
  • On-Site Parking (though expensive): While the cost is a major drawback, the availability of covered on-site parking in a D.C. urban setting is still a convenience for those who choose to drive.
  • 24/7 Grab & Go Market: The Market offers around-the-clock access to snacks, drinks, and light meals, providing convenience outside of restaurant hours.

As a Hyatt Place property, the hotel participates in the World of Hyatt loyalty program, offering various promotions and special offers designed to provide value to guests. For Washington D.C. locals, it’s always best to check the official Hyatt website or contact the hotel directly for the most current and comprehensive deals, as these can change frequently. However, here are common types of promotions you might find:

  • World of Hyatt Member Rates: By signing up for the free World of Hyatt program, guests can unlock exclusive member-only rates, earn points on stays, and redeem points for free nights, room upgrades, and other benefits.
  • Seasonal Sales & Offers: Look out for promotions tied to specific seasons, holidays, or travel periods. These might include percentage discounts on room rates, bonus points, or bundled packages.
  • Advance Purchase Rates: Booking your stay well in advance can often lead to savings, though these rates are typically non-refundable.
  • AAA/AARP Discounts: Members of AAA (American Automobile Association) and AARP (formerly American Association of Retired Persons) are generally eligible for discounted rates.
  • Government/Military Rates: Given its proximity to government offices, the hotel often provides special discounted rates for eligible government employees and military personnel.
  • "Stay More, Save More" or Extended Stay Discounts: For longer visits, such as those lasting multiple nights or weeks, the hotel might offer reduced rates to incentivize extended stays.
  • Bonus Journeys: World of Hyatt frequently runs global promotions allowing members to earn extra points or elite night credits on eligible stays, accelerating their path to higher tiers.
  • Meeting & Event Offers: For those planning small meetings or social gatherings, the hotel may have special offers on room blocks or meeting space rental.

While the hotel's on-site parking is expensive, checking for "Park & Stay" packages or specific deals that bundle parking with the room rate could potentially offer some value, although this is less common for budget-focused brands like Hyatt Place. It's always a good strategy to explore these options to maximize value for your stay.

Had a pretty average experience here. I didn't have a bad experience but I didn't have a good one either. They cleaned up breakfast early every day but I didn't love the options anyways. Our AC just stopped working in the middle of the night on Night #1 but it seemed like a frequent issue because they taught us how to reset it from our room and that fixed it. It was a rainy weekend when we visited, so our room had a constant sound of rain dripping on a tin roof from the roof dripping onto our windowsill, which is not ideal for someone with auditory sensory issues. Ice and water is on even numbered floors, which is a minor issue. Valet parking is $60/day so we opted for a parking garage but it ended up being a bit of a hike. The mattress wasn't bad but worst hotel pillows ever. On the positive, I appreciate their security. They have room card scanners on both entrances and the elevator. The valet is almost always standing at duty inside the front entrance. The hotel is located in an overall nice part of town. Lots of walkable things nearby. The bathrooms and shower were a nice size.

When we first came in it looked real nice. But as the day went on it went down hill. When you pull up they have a valet. You have a choice of parking for the day or overnight. We paid $70 or so. You don't have a choice unless you park on the street. The employees were very nice. Our room had several issues. The fridge didn't work, the ceiling was peeling ( so was the mirror in the bathroom), the stripping on the wall was half off the wall, there were stains on the couch and our feather comforter had holes in it. When we pull the comforter back feathers were under the cover and flying everywhere. There was trash left under the bathroom sink. The bathroom door is glass so you really didn't have to much privacy and you couldn't leave the light on in there for the kids because it made the whole room bright. Also the lock was broken. So my granddaughter went to the restroom and couldn't get out. It was very traumatic for her. We had to get a corn to try to turn the lock from outside of the door. The paper they gave us had a happy hour on it at the bar. No one was attending the bar. We asked the front desk about the appetizer and drink deals it said and they said no deals on appetizers. The drink deal was a canned margarita for $5. If we wanted appetizers they said they could look in the freezer to see what they had. The breakfast was the best part of our time. The staff that prepared and cleaned up were excellent. Soon as a mess was made they were there. Nothing was empty and they were there for anything you needed. We had a baby that made a mess and they said no problem and even were so sweet to the kids. They had a good variety of items. If I could I would give them the five stars.

I stayed at this hotel for three nights and was very disappointed. There is no self-parking available—only valet parking at $65 per day, and street parking is nearly impossible. I requested body lotion three times, and each time they promised to deliver it to my room, but it never arrived. The worst part was the air conditioning. It stopped working during the night, and when I called for maintenance, the technician simply restarted the unit and said that’s all he could do. He even made an inappropriate comment, telling me, “Buddy, don’t mess up the AC,” which was completely unprofessional. The AC worked for a few minutes and then shut off again, leaving the room uncomfortable all night. Definitely not worth the price. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Disappointing Stay at Hyatt Place Washington DC/US Capitol I recently stayed at the Hyatt Place Washington DC/US Capitol, located at 33 New York Avenue NE, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Upon entering the room, I was immediately struck by a musty odor that suggested inadequate cleaning and maintenance. The overall condition of the room felt dated and neglected. Most concerning was the bathroom: the shower exhibited visible mold, and the general cleanliness was well below the standards I expect from a Hyatt property. The towel rack was rusted and moldy. The couch was all broken and stained. The hallway smelled rotten, the carpet is all stained, absolutely disgusting. It appears my experience isn’t isolated. Other guests have reported similar issues, including sightings of cockroaches in rooms and malfunctioning air conditioning units . Additionally, there are mentions of cleanliness concerns in the bathroom areas . While the hotel’s location is convenient, I anticipated a much higher level of comfort and hygiene. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and implements the necessary improvements. Until then, I would advise potential guests to consider alternative accommodations in the area. Avoid this hotel at all cost.
