Jun 09, 2025 · Mark MartinStayed here for a conference. The hotel is new and beautiful. When I arrived at 4:45 pm, I was told my room wasn’t ready and had to wait a half-hour. As with other hotels there is a $35/day “urban fee” that they use to artificially make the room rates more attractive, claiming that they support things that used to be included in the price of hotels (like gym access). Yes, it’s become a norm in some places and is clearly disclosed during booking, but that doesn’t make it right or consumer friendly. It’s also unfriendly to business travelers who prepay as you have to keep track of two receipts for reimbursement, since the fee is assessed at checkout. You get a $15/day voucher to spend as part of the urban fee. I was told it would work in the hotel’s snack/coffee shop, rooftop, and restaurant. I went to the rooftop at 5 pm and there was no service available—“I have no rooftop bartender today” the person in the empty restaurant said. So I went to the hotel’s coffee shop—where a candy bar is $5 and a snack sized bag of peanuts is $7–and they accepted the voucher with no problem. Today, though, they rejected it and told me the person who sold me a sandwich and soda the day before “shouldn’t have done that.” It just feels so gross and scammy. They offer this credit but then profit by knowing most people won’t use it—and making it hard to use with inconsistent and arbitrary exclusions like this one. Left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Won’t be back.
Jun 19, 2025 · Daniel LaChanceGreat Location & Room Comfort, But Service Consistency Needs Work Arlo Washington strikes a solid balance between comfort and convenience. Situated within walking distance of Chinatown and several key attractions, the location is ideal for anyone exploring the heart of D.C. What sets this property apart from others in the Arlo chain is the room size — spacious, well-designed, and equipped with amenities like an in-room coffee machine, which added a layer of comfort to the stay. It’s the kind of room you can actually settle into after a long day of walking — something I truly appreciated. The hotel also provided complimentary daily vouchers ($15 each), a thoughtful gesture that could’ve been incredibly useful — had I understood how they worked. Unfortunately, neither the café nor the restaurant staff reminded or prompted me about them during transactions. It wasn’t until my last day that I realized I’d missed the opportunity to use several of them. A simple heads-up could have significantly improved my experience. When it comes to service, I had mixed impressions. Some staff members were truly outstanding — professional, responsive, and courteous. However, others came across as indifferent or unwelcoming, which stood in stark contrast to the exceptional service I experienced at Arlo Midtown in New York. There’s definitely room for improvement in consistency of hospitality. In summary, Arlo Washington offers excellent value through its spacious rooms and central location. Just be sure to ask about your vouchers upfront — and hope you catch one of their better-trained staff members at the desk.
Jun 02, 2025 · Abdul QurshiArlo was overall a nice hotel. We thought the styling and decor was very nice, the rooms were spacious and the rooftop bar had great views. We also liked the location and enjoyed walking around the area. However, it was a little disappointing that we couldn't use our daily vouchers at the coffee shop. You essentially pay for the daily vouchers with your resort fee and you're only allowed to use them at their restauarant or bar. We were also disappointed that we couldn't get water at the hotel desk. We were in town for a music festival and slept in late given the events lasted until late (we also both work nights so generally live on a later schedule). This means we missed the typical time for servicing of rooms. We asked for our room to be cleaned in the afternoon, but with the size of the hotel it seemed the staff didn't have time to circle back to our room. This was no problem at all, except that again, the daily canned water that we paid for with our resort fee was not restocked in our room. We definitely understood the service staff were busy, but in that case it would have been nice to have waters at the front desk for guests. Instead the front desk staff was unhelpful and seemed totally uninterested when we asked about getting our daily canned water. We have no problem with tap water at all, but when you pay additional fees that they justify with amenities that have strict limitations, it turns us off from returning to this hotel. Little details like this can make or break guest experiences and when there is a lot of competition in the area, it makes sense to go the extra mile when those details don't cost the hotel much in the long run. The only other issue was that the hotel is quite loud. The walls and doors are not well insulated, so that might make a difference to potential guests who are light sleepers.
Jun 10, 2025 · MaceyWe are so happy to have booked our stay at Arlo when making plans to stay in D.C. The location is centralized, making it easy to walk to various attractions and restaurants. From the moment we arrived, the staff at check-in was very courteous and professional. We were offered to upgrade to a city view on a higher floor for a small fee and are glad we did! The hotel itself is spotless and modern yet relaxing. They reached out daily via text, reminding us to contact them if we needed anything. We enjoyed the roof top bar as it had a great vibe, super service and the views were spectacular! The staff and coffee in the cafe were amazing! I can’t say enough positive things about this hotel. Thank you Arlo for making our stay incredible. We will be back!
