What a terrible company. They sold us a room that had been clearly leaking in the ceiling for some time. To make it worse, it was a leak from the bathroom above us. The paint was peeling off the ceiling and the walls from the water damage. You can clearly see this in the video attached. What amazed me the most was the lack of concern or care from the hotel. After calling the answering service asking for help we were told there are no available rooms and that we will be issued a refund. No one offered to help us rebook somewhere else. OF COURSE, I would need to wait 7-10 business days for the refund. My questions is this: What if you had a guest who didn't have the resources I have? What if you had someone who didn't have any more money to book another room? The answer is you do not care, and you were perfectly fine renting a room with toilet/bath water leaking into the bedroom. Shame on you. I booked this room for 2 nights over Memorial Day weekend. I was given 2 separate codes for entry, neither one matched so I had some trouble even getting in the building. Be advised there is no front desk here. You must call an answering service, based in the Philippines. So you will wait some time if you need anything. I cant say it enough- avoid this place.
Introduction / Overview
For us, as residents of Louisiana, a trip to New Orleans often means seeking out accommodations that offer more than just a typical hotel room. We appreciate spaces that provide comfort, convenience, and a touch of local character. The Ironworks Building, located at 315 Girod St in the vibrant Warehouse District, aims to offer just that: a unique, apartment-style hotel experience in a beautifully converted historic industrial building. Dating back to 1922 when it was home to Economy Iron Works, this property now provides spacious and stylish luxury rentals, ranging from one to four-bedroom units, designed to feel like a home away from home.
The concept behind Ironworks Building is to blend historic charm with contemporary luxury, offering guests significantly more space than traditional hotel rooms, along with modern amenities like full kitchens and in-unit washer/dryers. It’s ideal for travelers who prefer self-sufficiency, longer stays, or simply the comfort of a larger living area. While the Ironworks Building operates differently from a traditional hotel, with a focus on self-check-in and a virtual front desk, it endeavors to provide a seamless and comfortable stay within a unique New Orleans setting. Its industrial-chic design, combined with its historical roots and film-inspired murals (including autographs from Sylvester Stallone!), promises a stay unlike any other in the city.
Location and Accessibility
The Ironworks Building is strategically located at 315 Girod St, New Orleans, LA 70130, USA, placing it firmly in the heart of the bustling Arts/Warehouse District. This area is a prime spot for locals and visitors alike, offering a dynamic blend of cultural institutions, acclaimed restaurants, and vibrant nightlife, all within easy reach. For us, who appreciate being close to the action but perhaps a step removed from the 24/7 intensity of Bourbon Street, this location is an excellent compromise.
Its proximity to key New Orleans landmarks is a significant advantage. The Ernest N. Morial Convention Center is just a few blocks away (about a 5-minute walk), making it exceptionally convenient for those attending conventions or trade shows. The National World War II Museum, a must-visit cultural attraction, is also within easy walking distance (around 9 minutes). Canal Street, the gateway to the French Quarter and a major hub for streetcar lines, is approximately an 8-minute walk, allowing for quick access to the historic quarter's charm, the Mississippi Riverfront, and the Caesars New Orleans Casino (about a 6-minute walk). While public transportation options are readily available (St Charles at Girod Stop is 6 minutes away), the great walkability of the Warehouse District means many attractions, dining, and entertainment options can be enjoyed entirely on foot. For those arriving by car, while on-site parking is not typical for this type of accommodation, nearby parking lots are available, though prices can vary, as noted in guest feedback.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
For us, as Louisiana residents, when planning a visit to New Orleans, we often seek experiences that combine the city's unique charm with practical comfort. The Ironworks Building offers a distinctive accommodation style that is particularly well-suited for locals looking for something beyond the typical hotel stay. Its apartment-style units, complete with full kitchens and in-unit washer/dryers, provide a level of independence and convenience that feels much more like a temporary home than a transient room. This is especially appealing for families, groups, or those planning a slightly longer visit, as it allows for cost savings on dining out and the ease of managing personal belongings.
The location in the Warehouse District is another significant draw. We know that this area offers a fantastic blend of vibrant culture, excellent dining, and cultural attractions, all within easy walking distance of the Convention Center and a short stroll to the French Quarter. This means we can immerse ourselves in the city's energy during the day and return to a more spacious and self-sufficient retreat in the evening. While the self-check-in model and lack of a traditional physical front desk might be different from what some are used to, it caters to those who prefer a more independent travel style. The unique blend of historic architecture, modern design, and functional amenities makes the Ironworks Building a compelling choice for Louisiana locals seeking an authentic, comfortable, and independent New Orleans experience.

Jun 08, 2025 · William FreemanThis is what I sent the property through Expedia. I do not recommend this place at all. There’s nowhere to unpack cloths too. Having a king sized bed would be nice if we could walk around it. The bathroom door from the bedroom makes zero sense, doesn’t need to exist. No tv in the bedroom? Why? The closet has completely unusable shelf’s cause you can’t get to them. Why have a barn door to cover the wall when it Could have been open so you could use the shelf??? It really seems like you sacrifice functionality for looks good in pictures. Parking lot you recommend is horrible and other options are so expensive it’s not practical. Also the lobby smells like dirty armpits & bad cheese.
Jun 08, 2025 · cori colbertWe stayed here in a 1 bed 1 bath, in room 301, for 4 nights. I really like this place. Most of the chain hotels, even the nice ones, have beds that are uncomfortable and the ambience is boring in most cases. And Im very picky in terms of beds. Room 301 has a very comfortable king size bed. The king size bed is kinda like a memory foam bed, but not really. Im a big fan of the bed. The bedding is nice as well. The sofa bed is not useable for a normal sized adult, due to the bar through the middle of the sofa bed, which is very common for sofa beds. I wouldnt be able to sleep on the sofa bed, and it's a nice West Elm sofa bed. If you have one or two kids under the age of 9 or 10, they could sleep sideways on the sofa bed and be comfortable. The room was clean. It has everything you need, and that attention to detail is uncommon at this price point. In room 301, the washer and dryer are new. The shower is great and modern. Adequate towels, soaps, shampoo, conditioner, etc. The kitchen has all matching stainless steel GE appliances. Ironworks has a modern industrial and tasteful aesthetic that is comfortable, with character and charm. The Ironworks Coffee & Crepes cafe downstairs is great. Good coffee/espresso, good pastries and crepes. It was busy when we were there, but the service was fast and friendly. As far as Ironworks is concerned, it's a super short walk to the convention center and has several great restaurants within walking distance. Anything else you'd want in terms of bars, restaurants, entertainment and attractions are just a bit of a walk or a short Uber ride away. The location is great. We had no trouble checking in, even though there is no front desk. I know some people dont like not having a front desk, but I didnt mind at all because I didnt have any issues that required a front desk. Before you arrive you get an email with a code for a key pad to get you into the building and for the keypad for your room. When I did call the phone number for questions, they answered and were very helpful. One time I called, and they didnt answer, but returned my call in under 5 minutes. Ironworks exceeded my expectations. I've stayed in quite a few hotels and Air BnBs over the last two years. I like Ironworks better than most of the Hiltons, Marriotts and Homewood Suites where I've stayed over the last two years. There was an Air BnB in Port Aransas, Texas that was 5 bedroom 4 bath that I think that I may have liked better than Ironworks. It was really amazing. But we were also splitting it with 3 other families, so the experience isnt comparable and the price per family was very low. Ok, so the main issue I had with room 301 is that it's 3 stories up, obviously, and it's on the Girod Street side of the building. Two mornings, the trash trucks picked up the trash up and down Girod street at 7am one morning and at 8:30am on Sunday morning. It was loud. It woke us up. The worst part about it was that there were cars racing up and down Convention Center Blvd (a few blocks away) and revving their engines until about 1:30am the night before. If you require a quiet room, you may decide to not pick room 301 or any of the other rooms that face Girod Street. Parking: we chose not to rent a car for this trip and it paid off. You can easily get an Uber within 5 minutes at pretty much any time of the day, and most trips will be short ($10-$20 per trip) If you do rent a car, trying to find a parking space in downtown New Orleans is not that bad though. Overnight parking near Ironworks is not great. It's expensive for what you get. My summary: if you want covered parking and potentially a room that this more quiet, you might be better off at a chain hotel. Though I have definitely had sound issues and terrible parking situations at chain hotels as well. If you want a great room at a great price that checks most of the boxes, try out Ironworks. Bonus: free late checkout after our flight home was delayed. They let us stay late only due to availability.
Jun 15, 2025 · Jim EastburnIf you are looking for a place to stay that has everything. This place is it. Stylish, modern, quiet on the inside and in the mist of all the great things that make New Orleans a special place to visit on the outside. Lounges, clubs, restaurants, and activities are all a couple steps away when you walk outside the door. This place by far is in my top 2 for its lovely design and decorum and is #1 for location. I couldn’t have stayed in a better place. Will definitely continue using this one if available when I travel to the NOLA again. 🙏🙏🙏
Jun 17, 2024 · Kassim BanksMy family enjoyed our amazing stay, located in a beautifully reimagined warehouse. The condo was cozy, clean, and inviting. Perfect location and the check in process was a breeze! I am looking forward to my next stay.
