Nice place to stay if you want to say you stayed in old mansion. Location is good being right by the streetcars. Extremely quiet place, only once saw other guests. Staff was accommodating to our requests during their hours on location. It is old so don't expect fancy amenities. You are literally paying for the bed, bathroom, nostalgic feeling of being in old place, but that's about it. Improvements could be offering something for breakfast, beds improved, water to not be so hot or put H/C on the shower faucets. And happily, we saw no ghosts. Overall, amazing mansion, improvements could be done to it.

Magnolia Mansion Introduce

For those of us in Louisiana, a visit to New Orleans often conjures images of vibrant streets, rich history, and unique architecture. If you're looking to truly immerse yourself in the city's past while enjoying a serene and distinctive stay, the Magnolia Mansion offers an unparalleled experience. Located at 2127 Prytania St, New Orleans, LA 70130, USA, this historic Antebellum mansion isn't just a place to sleep; it’s an opportunity to step back in time and reside within a piece of New Orleans' grand heritage. It’s an ideal choice for locals seeking a quiet, charming, and memorable getaway from the hustle and bustle, while still being conveniently close to all the action.

Magnolia Mansion is celebrated for its majestic structure, its peaceful atmosphere, and its attentive staff who aim to make your stay special. As one delighted guest recounted, staying in this "beautiful, historic, Antebellum-style mansion such as this one that is over 150 years old" was a highlight, especially appreciating its ability to combat "the intense Louisiana summer heat and humidity." This article will delve into what makes Magnolia Mansion a compelling choice for Louisiana residents, exploring its prime Garden District location, the unique services it offers, its distinct features, and how to contact them for your next unforgettable New Orleans escape.

Location and Accessibility

The Magnolia Mansion is perfectly situated at 2127 Prytania St, placing it squarely in the heart of New Orleans' elegant Garden District. This neighborhood is renowned for its stunning historic mansions, lush oak-lined streets, and a much more tranquil atmosphere compared to the French Quarter. For Louisiana residents driving in, Prytania Street is accessible from major thoroughfares, and while on-site parking may be limited, street parking is generally more available and less restrictive in the Garden District than in the French Quarter.

A significant advantage of its location is the immediate access to the iconic St. Charles Avenue streetcar line, just a very short walk away. As one guest highlighted, it's "right by the streetcars," making transportation around the city incredibly easy and part of the authentic New Orleans experience. From the mansion, you can effortlessly reach:

  • The French Quarter: A scenic streetcar ride takes you directly to the vibrant French Quarter, providing access to Bourbon Street, Jackson Square, and a plethora of dining and entertainment options.

  • Magazine Street: A shopper's paradise, famous for its unique boutiques, antique shops, art galleries, and diverse restaurants, much of Magazine Street is within easy walking distance.

  • National World War II Museum: Located a short distance away, easily accessible via streetcar or a pleasant walk through the Lower Garden District.

  • Local Eateries: Within a "quick drive or trolley ride," and even walking distance, you’ll find numerous local cafes and restaurants, as mentioned by guests who found a taco place and a breakfast spot nearby.

The location offers a unique balance: "close enough to all of the attractions to make it a quick drive or trolley ride to get there, but, at the same time, just far enough away to be able to come back and slow down when the hustle and bustle gets to be a bit much." This makes it an ideal spot for locals who appreciate both lively exploration and quiet relaxation.

Services Offered

Magnolia Mansion aims to provide a comfortable and personalized stay, focusing on the unique experience of residing in a historic property. While it may not offer all the standardized amenities of a large chain hotel, its services are tailored to its distinctive charm.

  • Unique Rooms: The mansion offers individually decorated rooms, each with its own character and historic charm. As a guest noted about the "Vampire's Fairytale" room, they are often spacious and comfortable. Rooms are equipped with both central AC and often a smaller window unit, which is "GREAT for combating the intense Louisiana summer heat and humidity." Private bathrooms are standard.

  • Personalized Staff Assistance: The staff are consistently described as "very helpful, attentive, kind, and professional." They are available during "their hours on location" to accommodate requests and offer "wonderful suggestions of things to do while in town." For example, a guest mentioned staff readily provided extra shampoo upon request via text.

  • Complimentary Wi-Fi: Guests can expect reliable internet access throughout the property.

  • Luggage Assistance: Staff, like Kyle mentioned by a reviewer, are often on hand to assist with carrying bags up the stairs, which is particularly helpful given the mansion’s historic architecture.

  • Common Areas: The mansion features beautiful common areas, including sitting areas, where guests can relax and soak in the historic ambiance.

  • Self-Service Amenities: While not a full breakfast, the expectation should be for basic self-service options like coffee or tea, as implied by a guest who mentioned "tea and bagels for breakfast" (though another suggested "improvements could be offering something for breakfast").

  • Parking: While not directly on-site valet, the hotel is generally located in an area with more accessible street parking compared to the French Quarter.

Features / Highlights

The Magnolia Mansion truly stands out with its unique features, which are precisely what draw guests looking for something beyond the ordinary.

  • Historic Antebellum Mansion: The primary highlight is the opportunity to stay in a beautifully preserved, over 150-year-old Antebellum-style mansion. It offers a genuine "nostalgic feeling of being in old place," allowing guests to appreciate the "beauty and majesty of its structure and age."

  • Quiet, Residential Location: Nestled in the tranquil Garden District, the mansion offers an "extremely quiet place" where you can "slow down when the hustle and bustle gets to be a bit much." This is ideal for those seeking a peaceful retreat.

  • Proximity to Streetcar: Being "right by the streetcars" on St. Charles Avenue provides effortless and charming transportation to all major attractions without needing a car.

  • Distinctive Rooms: Each room possesses its own character, often with high ceilings and unique decor, providing a bespoke lodging experience. The "Vampire's Fairytale" room, for instance, was described as "amazing."

  • Effective AC for Louisiana Heat: A crucial feature for comfort in New Orleans, the combination of central AC and window units ensures effective cooling, as noted by a grateful guest combating "intense Louisiana summer heat and humidity."

  • Accommodating Staff: Despite not having 24/7 on-site staff, reviewers consistently praise the staff for being "accommodating to our requests" and "super helpful," even assisting with luggage up numerous stairs.

  • Architectural Beauty: Even if there are "some cosmetic things that can be improved" (as noted by a guest with an appreciation for old homes), the inherent beauty and historical significance of the mansion itself are undeniable highlights.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a unique, independently operated mansion, Magnolia Mansion's promotions might differ from larger hotel chains. It's always best to contact them directly or check their official website for the most up-to-date offers and booking details. However, based on the nature of such properties, potential offers might include:

  • Direct Booking Advantages: Booking directly with the mansion might offer exclusive rates or added perks not available on third-party booking sites.

  • Extended Stay Discounts: For those planning a longer visit to New Orleans, particularly during non-peak seasons, the mansion might offer discounted rates for stays of multiple nights.

  • Seasonal Specials: Look out for special offers during quieter periods of the year or for specific events if they partner with local attractions.

  • Group Rates: For larger groups planning a stay, it’s worth inquiring about potential group discounts.

While a guest review did mention "ridiculous pricing," this likely refers to peak season rates or the cost when booking for a very short stay, as properties of this caliber, offering a unique historic experience, naturally command a premium. Always compare the value offered (historic ambiance, spacious rooms, location) against the price.

We had a wonderful stay here. We stayed from 6/10/22 to 6/14/22. The staff were very helpful, attentive, kind, and professional. They made wonderful suggestions of things to do while in town. We stayed in one of the upper level, upstairs rooms called Vampire's Fairytale. The room was amazing. The beds were comfortable. They had both central AC and a smaller window unit in the room which worked GREAT for combating the intense Louisiana summer heat and humidity. The first person we met when we arrived was Kyle who was super helpful and even helped us unload the car and carry our bags up stairs into the building and then up stairs to our room. I will say, there are a lot of stairs if you stay in one of the upper level, upstairs rooms, but it was well worth it to stay in a beautiful, historic, Antebellum-style mansion such as this one that is over 150 years old. I grew up in a house that my mother restored that was over 100 years old and that experience has given me a great appreciation for old homes such as this one. While, yes, there are some cosmetic things that can be improved, the beauty and majesty of it's structure and age should be appreciated. It is close enough to all of the attractions to make it a quick drive or trolley ride to get there, but, at the same time, just far enough away to be able to come back and slow down when the hustle and bustle gets to be a bit much. Over all, I would give this place more than five stars if I could.

Booked in January-Paid in full by March 16 for April 12 check in. Arrived to find gates chained. Had Gotten confirmation from Host for arrival 3 days prior, April 9. Their website said they had been closed since March 9 and no communication from host at all regarding closure. It was French Quarter Festival weekend and hotels were at premium prices and limited availability. We were stuck without a place to stay, at night, 2 states from home. Neighborhood was heavily gang tagged and homeless tent cities were everywhere. AirBnB helped get cancellation, but we were out the money for days and still had to find a place to sleep. DO NOT STAY HERE. After everything, Host still has not apologized for problems. Ended up paying nearly 2x as much for hotel in city. They do not care about their guests and the neighborhood was loud and a little scary. Spend the extra and go somewhere else reputable.

We stayed for 2 nights. This place is beautiful. Truly a gem. The themed rooms were a lot of fun. The first night we had a very weird paranornormal experience with someone dropping something at the edge of the bed and on the floor. Nothing was there. It was really a great experience coming to this place. Tony is the owner and he was magnificent. He was so polite and welcoming. He told us about the history and he was very helpful and accommodating. The night time security Kent I believe was his name was awesome. He made us feel very safe during Mardi Gras and he was very sweet. All in all this was an amazing place with great people. We will be coming back here and trying a different themed room until we make it through all of the themed rooms.

Okay. So this place is not fancy or opulent or even nice. But it is fun and funky and has an amazing location. Kind of like all of New Orleans, it’s a little gritty but rich in history and has a fun vibe. First the good. The Magnolia Mansion is one of those massive antebellum homes in the heart of the Garden District, surrounded by other beautiful homes, giant live oak trees and a buzzing activity. There is a great front porch and courtyard area that we used multiple times during our stay. But what makes this place really great is the location. In between St Charles Ave and Magazine Street and a block from the #12 Street car (that runs all day long between the Garden District and the French Quarter) the Magnolia Mansion served as a great home base that we could conveniently stop off at during our exploring to refuel. Now for some not so good features. The rooms are a little shabby. If you’re quite particular about the hotels you stay in, the MM may not be for you. This place is not quite a hotel, not quite a B&B and not quite an Air BnB. It’s not sure what it wants to be. But it was safe, clean(ish) and just fine. All-in-all we had a great weekend in NOLA and the Magnolia Mansion fit our needs.
