Upon arrival noticed a great deal of trash in the parking lot including several water bottles full of urine. Housekeeping was still “cleaning” my room and had to wait outside. This was just after 3pm. Booked a room and paid extra with a refrigerator and microwave. Did not work. Guess there just for decoration. These are not expensive items. Air conditioner did not sufficiently cool room. Room smelled like smoke and air freshener. Cigarette holes in linens Shower water lukewarm at highest setting and no ledge or anything to set down soap and shampoo. Under beds absolutely disgusting. Trash, undergarments. We settled in the room and took a nap before I noticed everything. Otherwise would have asked to be moved or not stayed there. Yes it’s a budget hotel and “you get what you paid for” however this was unacceptable to have such basic cleaning and maintenance not completed. Don’t like being so harsh, I’m not a Karen that just likes to complain but Owners and management should truly be ashamed of themselves. There are no excuses for this level of laziness and condition of this “hotel”. Take some pride in your business. A place that looks like trash will just attract more trash. I can see in reviews there are many similar experiences which means they don’t give a damn as no effort whatsoever is put into fixing these problems. Do better!
For us Marylanders, especially when considering a budget-friendly stay, the Red Roof Inn Washington, DC - Lanham often comes up as an option. As locals, we understand that sometimes you just need a place to lay your head that's conveniently located, perhaps for an early morning flight, a quick visit to a nearby attraction, or when hosting guests who prioritize location and affordability over luxury. This particular Red Roof Inn aims to provide just that – a straightforward, no-frills lodging experience in a practical location. However, it's crucial to approach this hotel with a clear understanding of its current state, as recent guest feedback indicates significant challenges with basic cleanliness and maintenance. While its convenient access to main roads and various local points of interest is a definite plus, it appears the property is currently struggling to meet expected standards for upkeep. This means that while it might fit the bill for a highly budget-conscious traveler looking for a bed near key areas, guests should manage their expectations regarding the condition of rooms and common areas. It's a property that highlights the importance of balancing cost with comfort, and while the location remains a draw, the property's overall condition is a prominent factor to consider.
The Red Roof Inn Washington, DC - Lanham is located at 9050 Lanham Severn Rd, Seabrook, MD 20706, USA. This address places it strategically within Prince George's County, offering decent accessibility to various points of interest for Maryland locals and visitors alike. Its position off of I-95/I-495 (the Capital Beltway) is a significant advantage, providing relatively straightforward driving access to both Baltimore and Washington D.C., as well as other parts of the sprawling D.C. metropolitan area. This makes it a practical stopover for travelers on a road trip or those needing to access different parts of the region.
For those relying on public transportation, the hotel is near several Metro and Amtrak stations. It's approximately 4 minutes by car from the New Carrollton Station, which serves both the Metro (Orange, Blue, and Silver lines) and Amtrak. This offers a convenient transit point for direct access into downtown Washington D.C., including Union Station, the National Mall, and various government and business districts. While not within walking distance of the Metro, the short drive to New Carrollton Station makes it a viable option for those who prefer to leave their car behind when venturing into the city. The hotel also offers free self-parking on-site, including space for RVs, buses, and trucks, which is a considerable convenience for those traveling with vehicles, especially given that parking can be expensive or limited in more urban areas.
Beyond major transportation routes, the Red Roof Inn Lanham is situated close to a variety of local attractions and necessities. It is approximately 15 minutes from RFK Stadium, making it a potential lodging option for events or concerts. The University of Maryland, College Park, is about an 11-minute drive away, useful for prospective students, visiting parents, or attendees of campus events. Additionally, the hotel's location is noted for being "near a lot of food places," providing easy access to dining options without extensive travel. Overall, its position offers a balance of direct road access and reasonable proximity to public transport hubs and key regional destinations.
The Red Roof Inn Washington, DC - Lanham offers a selection of basic services and amenities typical of a budget-friendly hotel. While the guest reviews highlight concerns about the execution and maintenance of some of these, here's an overview of the services generally provided:
It's important for guests to note, as per reviews, that while these services are listed, their functionality or the condition of the items (e.g., non-working refrigerators/microwaves, issues with air conditioning, or cleanliness) can be a concern at this specific property. It's always advisable to verify the working condition of specific amenities upon check-in if they are crucial to your stay.
Given the honest feedback from real customers, the Red Roof Inn Washington, DC - Lanham presents a mixed bag of features and highlights. While some aspects are clearly areas for improvement, others remain as inherent advantages, particularly for a budget accommodation option.
However, it is equally important to acknowledge the significant reported challenges that dim these highlights. Issues such as general cleanliness (spider webs, unvacuumed carpets, stained sheets, dust), non-functional in-room appliances (refrigerator, microwave, TV), maintenance problems (lukewarm shower water, lack of shower ledge, air conditioning effectiveness), and property upkeep (trash in parking lot, cigarette holes in linens, under-bed cleanliness) are repeatedly mentioned. These deeply impact the guest experience, despite the favorable location and listed amenities. The hotel's management and ownership are frequently criticized for not addressing these recurring issues. Therefore, while the features above are offered, their consistent quality and condition are a major point of concern.
As a budget-friendly chain, Red Roof Inn often provides various promotions and discounts to attract travelers looking for value. While specific offers can vary, it's always advisable for Maryland locals to check the official Red Roof Inn website or contact the hotel directly for the most current promotions. However, here are common types of promotions and ways to save that are typically available across the brand:
Given the reviews regarding property conditions, it's particularly important for guests to consider that deeply discounted rates often reflect the current state of the property. While promotions can make the stay more affordable, managing expectations regarding the room's condition in a budget hotel is key.

For us Maryland locals, the Red Roof Inn Washington, DC - Lanham is primarily suitable as a highly budget-conscious option for very specific circumstances, where its convenient location outweighs concerns about property condition. If you need an extremely affordable place to stay overnight because you're attending an event at RFK Stadium, visiting the University of Maryland, College Park, or simply passing through the area on I-95/I-495, its accessibility is a definite plus. For locals who need a basic, no-frills room near the New Carrollton Metro/Amtrak station to commute into D.C. without city parking woes, and are willing to accept the hotel's current state, it might serve as a viable choice. The free on-site parking is also a significant advantage for those traveling by car. Furthermore, its pet-friendly policy makes it one of the more accessible options for locals traveling with their furry companions on a budget. However, it is paramount for any local considering this hotel to fully understand that numerous guest reviews highlight significant issues with cleanliness, maintenance, and the functionality of in-room amenities. This means it is suitable for those who prioritize location and rock-bottom pricing above all else, and who are prepared for a very basic, potentially challenging, accommodation experience. It serves as a reminder that "you get what you pay for" and while the location offers convenience, the current condition of the property should be a primary consideration for locals.

Jun 09, 2025 · Brad RThe Room itself was Dirty there were Spider Webs, the carpet wasn’t vacuumed, sheets had slight stains and there was dust everywhere. The tv the one thing I was looking forward too was unplugged and didn’t work. Upon mentioning these things at check out they were mainly dismisssed. The hotel is in a good location though. It’s near a lot of food places and about 15min from RFK stadium
Jun 15, 2025 · Marie MurdockI recently stayed at the Red Roof Inn in Maryland and had a mixed experience. While the hotel offered some basic amenities, there were a few aspects that could use improvement. The room itself was fairly okay for the price of $108 per day, but it felt a bit dated. Some of the furniture, including the chairs, was torn, which detracted from the overall comfort and appearance. It’s clear that the hotel could benefit from some renovations to enhance guest experience. One notable downside was the lack of a kettle for making tea. As someone who enjoys a warm beverage in the morning, this was a bit disappointing. It would be a nice addition to the room amenities. On a positive note, the staff was friendly and accommodating, which made the check-in process smooth. The location was convenient, making it easy to access nearby attractions. Overall, while my stay at Red Roof Inn was fair, I believe there are areas for improvement, especially in terms of room condition and amenities. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly option, it might suffice, but I hope to see updates in the future for a more comfortable experience.
Dec 10, 2024 · dan BanksThe front receptionist was very nice. However, every towel was damp. Even new ones from the front office. Room reeks of smoke even though it's non smoking. I bought air freshener still didn't help. Doors do not cancel sound/weather stripping needs to be replaced. Bathtub need anti slip guards. Better shower curtains; water will get out regularly. Light over sink took 3 hrs to fully turn on. There was no "privacy" or "do not knock" signs that could be placed. So I got a early wake up from housekeeping. If you need a room with 4 walls and a bathroom then this location will suit you.. If you want any illusion of comfort it's a hard no.
Oct 15, 2024 · Lucas AlstonRight off the beltway. Standard eoom no elevator. Fridge may or may not be in room. I didn't have a microwave. Visited multiple times. You may have a room where your "neighbors" aren't ao quiet...just depends. Went here to get some shut eye.
