May 25, 2025. Checked in but no parking, so I had to park elsewhere plus a 5 mins walk. Upon arriving to our room As soon as I open the smell of cigarette just hit me in the face, the room literally smells like an ashtray. And they sent the maintenance staff to checkout the smell and they claim that it was coming from the next room and without getting any clearance from the manager and they just opened the door which was supposed to be occupied, completely disregarded the guest privacy. I am extremely sensitive to cigarette smell so I asked for a room change and was told no room was available except for single king bed room instead of 2 Queens. The strange part is that another party checked in after me got a room that doesn’t smell like an ashtray. But after going through the reviews it seems like this is a common issue with this hotel(motel). I also asked the front desk for a recommendation for eatery she told me the restaurant only has bar service at this hour 10:00, But when I walked down 500m. All the restaurants were still serving and was able to take my take out order (that’s another disaster). I had no choice but to stay in the room, Going to check with the manager tomorrow morning to get this sorted out. This motel should not be part of a volleyball stay and play choice at all. Frankly the ECC host should consider banning this hotel from the list as it is not safe for young athletes to inhale second hand smoke.
For travelers seeking a hotel in the heart of Pittsburgh's vibrant North Shore, the SpringHill Suites Pittsburgh North Shore is a prominent choice within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category. Conveniently situated at 223 Federal St, Pittsburgh, PA 15212, USA, this all-suite hotel offers an ideal location for those attending sporting events, exploring museums, or enjoying the downtown area. You can reach the hotel directly at (412) 323-9005 or via mobile at +1 412-323-9005 for reservations and inquiries.
The environment of SpringHill Suites Pittsburgh North Shore is a significant draw, primarily due to its exceptional location. It is directly across the street from PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and within a short walk (approximately 13 minutes) of Acrisure Stadium, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers. This makes it an unparalleled choice for sports enthusiasts. Beyond sports, the hotel offers easy access to the National Aviary, The Andy Warhol Museum, and Stage AE, an outdoor concert venue. Downtown Pittsburgh is also easily accessible, often within a 5-minute walk, and the hotel is close to subway stations within the city's fare-free zone, enhancing urban exploration. The North Shore area itself provides a lively atmosphere with various dining and entertainment options. The hotel is housed in a modern building, and guests often appreciate its contemporary style and the generally clean appearance of the property.
As a SpringHill Suites property, this hotel offers a range of services and features designed to provide a comfortable and convenient stay. A key highlight for many guests is the complimentary hot breakfast buffet, which is typically described as "good" with "enough options." The staff endeavors to keep everything well-stocked, even during busy periods, ensuring a satisfying start to the day. The hotel also boasts an indoor pool, providing a relaxing option for guests, and a 24-hour fitness center for those wishing to maintain their workout routines. For business travelers, a business center and meeting facilities are available. Free Wi-Fi and wired internet access are provided in both rooms and public areas, catering to connectivity needs.
The accommodations at SpringHill Suites Pittsburgh North Shore are all-suite, offering more space than traditional hotel rooms. Suites typically include separate living and sleeping areas, and often feature a kitchenette with a mini-refrigerator, microwave, and coffee/tea maker. This setup is particularly convenient for longer stays or for families who appreciate the ability to prepare simple meals or store snacks. Rooms are equipped with LCD televisions and premium cable channels. The hotel is also designed to be non-smoking throughout, a standard policy for Marriott properties, which should ideally contribute to a fresh environment for guests.
However, an objective introduction requires acknowledging some significant challenges and inconsistencies highlighted in recent guest reviews. A major concern is the recurring issue of cigarette smoke smell in rooms, despite the hotel being designated as non-smoking. Guests have reported rooms smelling like an "ashtray," and even after staff inspection, the issue persisted, sometimes attributed to adjacent rooms. This is a critical point for guests sensitive to smoke or those with allergies. While the hotel claims to be 100% smoke-free, the guest experiences suggest that enforcement or mitigation of smoke infiltration may be inadequate, potentially impacting the health and comfort of guests. The hotel explicitly states on booking platforms that "Pets are not allowed," so guests should not expect to bring their furry companions.
Another area of concern is parking. While the hotel offers on-site self-parking, it comes with a fee (around $27.00 per night with in/out privileges), and guests have reported issues with parking availability, sometimes having to park elsewhere and walk a short distance to the hotel. This can be inconvenient, especially upon initial arrival. Furthermore, some minor room issues have been noted, such as dim lighting, particularly around the bathroom sink area, which can be inconvenient for activities like applying makeup. The absence of a fan in the shower/toilet room has also been mentioned.
Elevator service has also been a point of frustration for some guests. With only two elevators for a 10-floor property with 198 rooms, if one elevator is out of service, wait times can become significantly long, as experienced by guests waiting "20 minutes twice" to descend from higher floors during peak times like check-out or breakfast. Lastly, while the staff is generally praised for being "friendly, kind, and so helpful," one review noted a staff member providing inaccurate information regarding nearby restaurant availability, which caused inconvenience.
In terms of promotional information, as a Marriott property, SpringHill Suites Pittsburgh North Shore participates in the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program. Guests can leverage Marriott Bonvoy for exclusive member rates, earning points on stays, and accessing various benefits. The hotel also frequently offers promotions such as discounts for booking in advance, savings on extended stays (e.g., 5+ nights), and seasonal deals. These promotions are typically available on the Marriott website and through major online travel agencies. Its prime location makes it an ideal spot for corporate travelers attending events at the Convention Center or for leisure visitors exploring Pittsburgh's iconic attractions.
In conclusion, SpringHill Suites Pittsburgh North Shore offers an undeniably excellent location for visitors to Pittsburgh's North Shore, especially those attending events at PNC Park or Acrisure Stadium. Its all-suite accommodations, complimentary breakfast, and helpful staff are strong positive aspects. However, prospective guests must be acutely aware of the recurring issues with cigarette smoke smell in rooms and potential challenges with parking availability and elevator service. While the hotel strives to provide a comfortable experience, these specific drawbacks, detailed by guest reviews, should be carefully considered to ensure the hotel aligns with individual preferences and expectations when searching within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category.

May 24, 2025 · Eric LeeGreat clean hotel. Stayed in a King suite. Pros: staff was friendly, kind, and so helpful. Breakfast was a good standard hot breakfast with enough options. And staff did their best to keep everything stocked, even at its busiest. Location was great, close to the subway in the fare free zone. Parking was on site. Cons: lighting in the room was a bit dim, especially the mirror for the bathroom sink area. Not good for makeup. No fan in the shower/toilet room. Only 2 elevators... When both are working I'm sure it's sufficient most of the time, but one was out of service on Sunday morning. With people checking out and also coming down for breakfast we waited 20 minutes twice to get down from the ninth floor. Things break, it happens. It was an inconvenience, that's all. Would probably be a bit of a different experience when the pirates are playing across the street, but in the off season, this was a great find and a great experience overall.
Mar 03, 2025 · Danielle Tertula ButchartNice, large room. Love that it had a tiny kitchen sink, mini-fridge, and microwave. The mini-fridge was big enough to fit several food leftover containers, a 6-pack, and then some. The freezer section, though small, was very cold. Comfortable bed, nice toiletries. Perfect location to catch a Pirates game next door, which we did. Easy parking, even with the lot under construction, you just scan your room key to get in the gated entrance. The spots are tight, so it would be very tricky with a big pickup truck, for example. The free breakfast is great! Lots to choose from. Would stay again.
May 03, 2025 · NicoletteThe absolute worst experience I have ever had at a hotel. Our check in time was at 4 and our room was not available until after 7 pm. The lady at the front deck was beyond appalling to deal with and literally threw my room keys at me when we finally were able to go to our room. They were offering no explanation. Once we got into our room, there were wet spots in the floor, dirty pillows, the tv didn’t work, nor the microwave. If I could rate this a 0 I would. Only good thing about it was the location.
Mar 24, 2025 · Cloey LewisA little tired & dated. Bathroom needs an update. Had to ask for hand soap. Staff friendly & quickly responsive. Scrambled eggs at breakfast tasted weird, maybe powdered? But quiche was tasty. Clean. Pool looks nice. Convenient to have laundry on site. Across the way from the stadium. Duquesne incline is less than 2 miles away.
