We visited this bed and breakfast 10 years ago and it was superb, however the place had gone downhill. We arrived last week to an empty house, no one to greet us or give us instructions of how to get in. We sat on the back porch until we located the manager and obtained a code to let ourselves in. I understand that early spring is a slow season but they could have made our arrival a bit more welcoming. Once we were in and located our room we found out there was no breakfast offered, even though they advertise as a bed and breakfast. We were offered coffee which we would have to make ourselves in the kitchen. We were extremely disappointed as our past experience of this place had been so positive. I hate writing a bad review but we left ahead of time because we felt so unwelcome, this is not the bed and breakfast experience we are used to.

The Historic Herren House Introduce

For local users searching on platforms like "Hotels Near Of Me" for unique and substantial accommodation, "The Historic Herren House" in Waynesville, North Carolina, stands out as an exceptional option. This isn't a traditional hotel with individual hotel rooms and constant on-site staff; rather, it functions as a grand vacation rental, ideal for large families, group gatherings, or special events, offering a blend of historic charm and modern conveniences. It provides the entire home to guests, ensuring privacy and ample space for their party.

The environment of The Historic Herren House is truly its defining characteristic. Built in 1897, this grand house immediately transports guests to a bygone era while providing all the comforts of the present. It is situated just two short blocks from Main Street in downtown Waynesville, offering a peaceful and spacious setting right in the heart of town. This prime location means guests are within easy walking distance to the charm of Waynesville's vibrant downtown, which boasts unique shops, locally-owned restaurants, art galleries, and often hosts frequent festivals, street dances, and live music. The house itself exudes historic elegance, with architectural details that speak to its late 19th-century origins. Beyond the main structure, the property features a lovely back-garden courtyard, a charming gazebo with a dining table for outdoor meals, and a classic wrap-around front porch. This outdoor space provides ample opportunity for quiet relaxation, morning coffee, or socializing with your group while enjoying the fresh mountain air. The overall ambiance is one of serene grandeur, offering a sense of stepping back in time to a more relaxed pace of life, yet with the convenience of being centrally located to all the area's attractions. The surrounding area of Waynesville, often referred to as the "Gateway to the Smokies," provides a picturesque backdrop of the beautiful North Carolina Great Smoky Mountains, reflecting the area's natural beauty and enhancing the peaceful environment of the house.

In terms of services, The Historic Herren House operates as a self-check-in vacation rental, providing guests with independence and flexibility. Upon booking, guests typically receive an email from the host with detailed check-in and check-out instructions, including smart lock codes for seamless access. While there isn't a traditional concierge desk, the property is managed by a private host, implying that support is available for any needs or inquiries that may arise during the stay. The focus of the service model is on providing a fully equipped and comfortable environment for guests to manage their own stay. For instance, guests have access to a full kitchen, eliminating the need to rely on external dining for all meals, which can be a significant service for larger groups. The house is equipped with essential amenities to ensure a comfortable stay without daily housekeeping common in hotels, offering a more private and personalized experience. Cleaning is performed thoroughly between guests, ensuring a pristine environment for each new arrival. Given its nature as a rental property, it's generally understood that parties or group events are strictly prohibited on-site, maintaining the peaceful environment for all guests and neighbors.

The features of The Historic Herren House are extensive and cater specifically to larger groups. The house typically boasts seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms, with each bedroom featuring a private en-suite bathroom. This is a significant convenience for large parties, ensuring privacy and comfort for all occupants. The bedroom configurations vary, often including king beds, queen beds, twin beds, and even sofa beds or futons in some rooms, allowing for flexible sleeping arrangements for up to 14 or more guests. Common areas include a spacious shared dining room with a large dining table, perfect for communal meals, and a living room often equipped with board games for entertainment. A Keurig coffee machine in the dining area is also a thoughtful addition. The full kitchen is a standout feature, equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, oven, stovetop, coffee/tea maker, electric kettle, cookware, dishware, and utensils, enabling guests to prepare their own meals. Practical amenities such as a washer and dryer, central air conditioning and heating, and ceiling fans in rooms ensure comfort year-round. Free WiFi is available throughout the house, allowing guests to stay connected. Outdoor features include the wrap-around front porch, the back-garden courtyard, and the gazebo with outdoor dining. On-site parking is also available, adding to the convenience for guests traveling by car. Safety features like carbon monoxide detectors and smoke detectors are also present for guests' peace of mind. The property's proximity to attractions like the LoneBackpacker Gallery of World Photography, Waynesville Dog Park, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is also a key feature, making it a convenient base for exploration.

Regarding promotional information, The Historic Herren House's primary appeal and therefore its promotional messaging revolves around its capacity and unique historic character. For users searching "Hotels Near Of Me" for group accommodations, the fact that it sleeps 14+ guests across 7 bedrooms, each with a private bathroom, is a strong promotional point. The "historic 1897 home" aspect itself serves as a significant draw, appealing to those who appreciate unique, character-filled stays over generic hotel chains. Its location "just 2 short blocks from Main St" in downtown Waynesville is another key promotional highlight, emphasizing walkability to shops, restaurants, and local events. Online travel agencies like Expedia, Orbitz, and Airbnb, where The Historic Herren House is listed, may offer various booking incentives, such as flexible cancellation policies (e.g., free cancellation within a certain timeframe) or last-minute deals, though these are platform-specific and should be checked directly. The high ratings and positive reviews from previous guests (often exceptional, with scores in the 9s out of 10) also act as a strong form of promotion, indicating a high level of guest satisfaction. While specific, time-limited discounts would need to be sought on current booking platforms, the consistent value proposition of a spacious, historic, and well-located property for groups is its ongoing promotional strength. The property's suitability for family reunions, gatherings, and providing a central base for exploring the Great Smoky Mountains and surrounding areas of Western North Carolina is always highlighted.

Super cute B n B but beware this does NOT have any television. I must have overlooked this when I booking. My husband was not happy.

I had a good stay at this place. Nice and calm. Easy to check in and out. Room was fresh and nice. The price was a bit om the higher side but otherwise everything was good.

The idyllic property is perfectly located close to everything in Waynesville. Walking distance to wonderful restaurants and shops and the house is full of historic charm. The property is well maintained and accommodations were excellent especially for the price. The property owner was extremely accommodating and easy to deal with. He was attentive to our requests and quick in correspondence. You can't go wrong staying here.
