the house of id Introduce

For those local users in search of "Hotels Near Of Me" who desire an experience beyond the conventional hotel stay, "The House of ID" in Norwood, Massachusetts, offers a truly unique and enchanting alternative. Located at 34 Marion Ave, Norwood, MA 02062, USA, this property transcends the typical vacation rental, acting as a "full-on experience" that blends charm, inclusivity, and a touch of magic, as enthusiastically described by its guests. While not a traditional hotel with a public phone number, it operates as a meticulously curated vacation home available for booking, typically through platforms like Airbnb, and emphasizes direct communication with its owners, Dara and Paige.

Environment and Location:

The House of ID is nestled in Norwood, Massachusetts, a town that the owners themselves describe as "perfect for treasure hunting," conveniently located near the vibrant cities of Boston (approximately 30 minutes by car or 40 minutes by commuter rail) and Providence, Rhode Island (about 35 minutes by car or 1 hour 15 minutes by train). This strategic location allows guests to enjoy a peaceful suburban retreat while having easy access to urban attractions and cultural sites. Norwood itself maintains a small-town feel, boasting trails to explore, local dining, exceptional vintage shopping, and a strong sense of community.

The environment within The House of ID is specifically designed for comfort and connection. The layout features "cozy yet open spaces that invite lingering conversations and shared meals," making it ideal for gatherings of family and friends. The interior design celebrates a "happy, retro color palette" and is an "ever-changing canvas filled with treasures," with some artwork potentially containing female nudity. A "grow room" with skylights serves as a place to read, chat, relax, and soak in the sun. The property also boasts a "best 3 season porch ever created" where guests can relax in a hammock, dine outdoors, or simply enjoy pastries on the couch. Crucially, the outdoor space includes a private pool, which is level with the driveway, providing step-free access and making it available seasonally from June to August, heating naturally by sunshine.

Services and Amenities:

The House of ID offers a comprehensive range of amenities designed to ensure a comfortable and inclusive stay. The property features 3 bedrooms and 3 beds, comfortably accommodating up to 5 guests. Essential living spaces are located on the main level, including a fully equipped kitchen with baking and cooking appliances, and an extendable vintage table perfect for activities or shared meals. Each of the two bedrooms on the main level has its own ductless mini-split system for personalized temperature control. One queen bed room includes an adjustable bed and space to accommodate a transport wheelchair. The main floor full bathroom is adaptable, offering a step-free shower that can also convert to a tub upon request.

A major distinguishing feature of The House of ID is its dedication to accessibility. The design is informed by the owners' firsthand experience with chronic/invisible illness, prioritizing "joy at your fingertips" and "participation without overexertion." This includes thoughtful amenities like ramps (available for the 2 steps into the house from the entrance, from the grow room into the main area, and from the front porch), an outdoor chairlift for easy access into the house, and the availability of a transport wheelchair and rollator for guest use. While the doorways are not 32 inches wide (the recommended width for many full-size wheelchairs), the property is designed to be highly accommodating for those using transport wheelchairs or other mobility aids. A counter-height microwave can also be provided upon request.

Upstairs, guests will find a flex space suitable for yoga, meditation, or reading, complete with a small refrigerator for snacks, drinks, and medication storage. The upstairs bedroom has a cozy, log cabin feel with a four-poster bed and an attached full bathroom featuring a large, sunny shower with a seat. Beyond the physical amenities, guests praise the "spotlessly clean" environment and comfortable beds, including room-darkening blinds and extra bedding for better sleep. The property also offers fast Wi-Fi (636 Mbps) and free driveway parking for up to 4 cars, with ample street parking available. While the garage is generally for owner use, special arrangements can be made during winter storms.

Features and Highlights:

The true essence of The House of ID lies in its unique conceptualization and the spirit behind it. It's not just a place to stay but an "in-home shopping experience" where guests can discover and purchase "unique treasures," antiques, and curated finds tucked into every corner. This "shop-the-house" model allows guests to "live with the pieces you love, then take them home," creating a memorable and interactive element to their stay. The owners, Dara and Paige, a mother-daughter duo, are lauded for their "wonderful communication" and their commitment to making each stay perfect. Their mission is to offer a space where everyone, especially those who might not otherwise have access to this kind of creative energy, can experience real joy.

The emphasis on inclusivity and accessibility sets The House of ID apart. It’s a rare find designed to ensure comfort for all guests, fostering a sense of belonging and ease. The blend of a charming home, an antique/vintage shop, and a disability-friendly design creates a truly distinctive offering. Guests frequently mention feeling "surrounded by love and memories" and discovering "familiar things that brought back memories and new things that made us smile and laugh," highlighting the personal and heartwarming nature of the experience. The private pool is a significant added bonus, offering a unique recreational amenity not commonly found in similar accommodations.

Promotional Information:

The House of ID is primarily marketed as a unique vacation rental and a destination in itself. While it does not participate in traditional hotel loyalty programs, its appeal lies in its bespoke experience. Prospective guests can book directly through The House of ID's dedicated website or via platforms like Airbnb. The owners actively encourage communication regarding accessibility needs, inviting guests to fill out a specific accessibility form to ensure all necessary ramps, transport wheelchairs, or other aids are set up prior to arrival. They are also transparent about their pet policy, allowing up to two non-service dogs for a fee, which can be refunded if no additional cleanup is required, emphasizing respect for future guests with allergies.

The property's unique "shop-the-house" feature serves as its own form of promotion, offering guests the opportunity to leave with tangible memories and treasures. Its recent feature in The Boston Globe also adds to its recognition and appeal. For those seeking a memorable getaway near Boston that prioritizes comfort, connection, and inclusivity, The House of ID stands as a highly recommended destination, offering a magical and truly personal experience rather than just a place to sleep.

I was lucky enough to be able to spend time at House of Id with my friends. We felt surrounded by love and memories. We dug through the house and discovered familiar things that brought back memories and new things that made us smile and laugh. The house has everything you need and is comfortable and spotlessly clean. The pool is an added bonus, don’t forget the pool gear in the garage. I came home with treasures that I will enjoy forever. Dara and Paige are wonderful communicators and made our stay perfect. Can’t wait to get back to the area so I can stay again.

What an incredible experience! This house is not only gorgeous, but unique and clever in the best way. The vintage aesthetic is wonderful, but the amazing thing is that you can shop everything in the house! And the fact that the house is accessible for those with a disability is just pure gold- anyone and everyone can enjoy this vacation space. Top it off with great people managing the property, and what more could you possibly ask for? Love it!!!

I first met Dara in a thrift store while sifting through a collection of old matchbooks. We struck up a conversation and before I knew it, she was telling me about her vision for the house of id. I was floored! An incredibly cool place to stay AND shop responsibly? AMAZING. I was the first person, a total stranger, to hear about it, and that serendipitous moment perfectly captures the warmth, openness, and passion that define this incredible space. On my last visit, I finally met Paige, and she's just as amazing. Together they are truly a dynamic duo!

Beautiful and gorgeous house!! It's clear a lot of love and care was put into this home which can't always be said for other AirBnBs I've stayed at. I also love the emphasis on accessibility as a person with a chronic illness/disability. I feel very comfortable and at home here 😊 Hoping to come back again soon!!
