**Disappointing Service Overshadows Great Location** Despite an excellent location near Grand Central and well-designed rooms with an interesting art theme, this hotel was a frustrating experience I cannot recommend. Service is inconsistent and often unpleasant. I experienced Fawlty Towers-style quirky and unpredictable interactions throughout my stay. One front desk employee (Greg) became visibly angry when simply asked for his name. Staff seemed annoyed when we needed elevator access for our stroller (hi Suresh). The only exception was Peter, who provided decent service by accommodating our early check-in with sleeping toddlers after other staff had refused to help. Not recommended for families with children. There are multiple steps throughout the property and staff seemed bothered by accommodating stroller needs. We received contradictory information about policies on consecutive days. This might be acceptable for solo travelers or couples who don't require much staff interaction. The location and room design are the only highlights, but the erratic and often rude service makes this hotel difficult to recommend to anyone, especially families.

The Renwick Introduce

Looking for a hotel in Midtown East with a unique artistic flair? The Renwick, located at 118 E 40th St, is part of the 'Hotels Near Of Me' category and boasts a prime location near Grand Central Terminal. However, recent guest reviews present a dichotomy of experiences, particularly regarding service, which local users should consider.

One guest reported a "disappointing service overshadows great location" experience. While acknowledging the excellent location and well-designed rooms with an interesting art theme, they found the service to be inconsistent and often unpleasant, describing "Fawlty Towers-style quirky and unpredictable interactions." Specific incidents included a front desk employee becoming visibly angry when asked for their name and staff seeming annoyed when assistance was needed with a stroller. This guest specifically mentioned one staff member, Peter, as an exception for accommodating an early check-in for a family with sleeping toddlers after others refused. Based on their experience, this guest does not recommend The Renwick for families with children due to multiple steps throughout the property and staff seeming bothered by stroller needs, as well as receiving contradictory information about policies on consecutive days. They suggest it might be more suitable for solo travelers or couples not requiring much staff interaction, noting that while the location and room design are highlights, the erratic and often rude service makes it difficult to recommend to anyone, especially families.

In contrast, another guest thoroughly enjoyed their stay at The Renwick. They found the location perfect, centrally situated between many tourist attractions such as Grand Central Terminal, 30 Rockefeller Plaza, Times Square, and the Empire State Building, yet without the loud traffic and crowds. They described the area as feeling very safe with nearby coffee shops and diners. The 355 square foot suite was considered spacious enough for 3-4 adults, and the bed was quite comfortable. The furniture layout reportedly made the suite feel even more spacious than its size suggested. This guest also noted soundproof walls and quick elevator service. They found the entire hotel to have a relaxing vibe and, most importantly, praised the staff as very friendly and accommodating, specifically mentioning "T" and the service workers for ensuring the suite had everything needed and promptly fulfilling requests. They also thanked the doorman/concierge, stating that the staff made their first trip to New York enjoyable, always greeting them warmly and providing appreciated hospitality.

The provided reviews do not contain information about specific promotional offers at the time of these stays. For direct bookings or inquiries about potential promotions, you can contact The Renwick at (212) 687-4875 or +1 212-687-4875. For the most up-to-date information on offers, it is recommended to check the hotel's official website or your preferred booking platform. The Renwick offers a potentially excellent location and uniquely designed rooms, but feedback on service is significantly varied, ranging from rude and unaccommodating to very friendly and helpful. Families, in particular, may want to weigh the reported service challenges against the hotel's other merits.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Renwick. The location was perfect, centrally located between many tourists attractions (Grand Central Terminal, 30 Rockefeller Plaza, Times Square, Empire State Building, etc.,) without the loud traffic & crowds. The area felt very safe with coffee shops & diners nearby. The 355 square foot suite was spacious enough for 3-4 adults & the bed was quite comfortable. The furniture layout makes the suite feel more spacious than the square footage suggests. The walls seemed soundproof as we never heard neighboring rooms & the wait for the elevator was quick. The entire hotel is a vibe-a relaxing vibe. Lastly & most importantly, the staff was very friendly & accommodating. Shout out to T and to the service workers that made sure the suite had everything we needed or expeditiously sent to the room upon request. Thanks also to the doorman/concierge. You all made our first trip to New York enjoyable. You greeted us every time we were either on our way in or out. We felt welcomed & your hospitality is greatly appreciated.

Nice hotel, in a convenient spot. Close to Grand Central, Bryant Park, Chrysler Building. Rooms are a good standard, cleaned daily by a lovely woman during our stay. Free coffee in the mornings, $3 for a croissant. Never tried the bar here as you had to access it from the street despite it being inside the hotel. The only gripe is the damage deposit. We booked with Expedia, which had the deposit as being $100 for the whole stay. The hotel took $300 from each of us ($50/night). When I took this up with the lady on reception, she aggressively and condescendingly talked me back down. I have since checked the hotel's own website, and could find no mention of any deposit. We have checked out 3 hours ago, and still the deposit has not appeared back on my card. Not great when I am about to fly back to the UK. A great pity, as we have had a fantastic time but slightly soured by being $300 light on spending money all week for no apparent reason. Factor this in and it is a good hotel.

Lovely hotel, a few minutes from Grand Central, and located near to the main sight seeing attractions. Room was lovely and clean, beds comfortable, with small but fabulous bathroom. Late check in of 4pm, however we arrived at 2pm and were granted early check in which was fab and the female receptionist was lovely, as was Andrew in the restaurant. The hotel also stored our bags as check out was 11am but we weren't being collected for our flights to the airport until 4pm. Only gripe is that a male on reception in the evening was rude and clearly couldn't be bothered. On the whole a great hotel that we would definately visit again.

Absolutely love this place. Rooms are a little tight, otherwise excellent. Front desk very helpful. Great location. They have opened the bar and restaurant, which, I believe, serves breakfast.
