I stayed here a few weeks ago with my family. Overall we had a very good experience, the rooms were very cozy and the check in was seamless. I will definitely be staying at Skazka again the next time I’m in the area. The outdoor tennis court was also a plus.

Camp-Resort Skazka Introduce

For local users exploring the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, Camp-Resort Skazka in Saugerties, NY, presents itself as a distinctive, family-run resort with a focus on providing a country atmosphere and recreational activities. Located at 9 Solway Rd, Saugerties, NY 12477, USA, "Skazka" (meaning "fairytale" in Russian) aims to offer an affordable summer retreat in the heart of the historic Hudson Valley, at the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. However, recent customer reviews paint a sharply contrasting picture of guest experiences, making an objective introduction crucial.

The environment of Camp-Resort Skazka is a key part of its appeal, as highlighted by its official description. The resort is "nestled in the beautiful foothills of the Catskill Mountains," on "17 wooded acres." This expansive natural setting promises a charming country atmosphere, where "the cool Catskills meet the scenic Hudson." Its location in Saugerties, known as the "antique capital of NY," offers a blend of natural beauty and local charm. The resort is ideally situated "100 miles from New York City" and is "only 2 miles from the New York State Thruway," ensuring convenient access for travelers. The wooded acreage provides space for various outdoor activities and a sense of tranquility, despite some internal issues reported by guests. The mention of observing "varied wildlife right outside our dining room" suggests an immersive natural experience. This environment makes it suitable for those seeking to escape the urban hustle and enjoy the fresh air and scenic vistas of upstate New York. However, the environmental quality within the resort's facilities is a point of contention in customer feedback, with reports of mold in rooms and an unclean, overcrowded pool, which directly impacts the perceived quality of the resort's immediate environment.

In terms of services, Camp-Resort Skazka positions itself as a family-run establishment with "Service and hospitality are our top priority." They aim to provide "delightful facilities, at very reasonable rates." Guests can expect "modern rooms" that reportedly have "TVs, refrigerators, heat and A/C" (though the functionality of AC is disputed in reviews). The resort offers a "varied menu" using "freshest local ingredients," with "Vegetarian choices always available and special dietary needs accommodated," emphasizing "Home-style cooking and a warm informal atmosphere." The staff is described as "friendly, helpful and caring." Check-in was reportedly "seamless" for one satisfied guest. However, the negative reviews severely challenge these claims of service quality. Reports of a lack of front desk staff, rooms smelling "disgusting," and an owner's perceived dismissiveness towards genuine complaints (accusing a reviewer of "competitor conspiracy") indicate significant inconsistencies in service delivery and guest satisfaction. The alleged disappearance of negative reviews and appearance of mostly positive ones also raises concerns about transparency in their online presence.

The features of Camp-Resort Skazka are quite extensive, aiming to provide a wide range of recreational and entertainment options for guests, particularly those interested in a "Russian-American Family Camp."

  • Accommodations: Rooms are described as "very cozy" by one guest, though others cite issues with cleanliness, mold, and non-functional air conditioning. Each room is said to have TVs, refrigerators, and climate control.
  • Recreation: The resort boasts a "king-size swimming pool" (though its cleanliness is heavily criticized), a "full-size tennis court" (which was a "plus" for one guest), and facilities for "Volleyball, Basketball, Softball, Ping Pong, and Billiard." There's also a "Children's playground with swings."
  • Entertainment & Social Spaces: A "large recreation hall" is available for "folk, ballroom, and swing dancing; for performances, conferences, and lectures." There's also a "generous card room" and a "beautiful lounge with spectacular mountain views and a piano." The resort hosts "Live Russian, Ukrainian, and American music and dancing," "Concerts," and "Talent shows." Guests can also participate in "Bingo, card Games, Chess and Checker," and "Movies."
  • Connectivity: Rooms are stated to have "Cable TV," "Russian radio and TV," "Ukrainian TV," and "Computers with high speed Internet access."
  • Wellness: A "Sauna" is listed among the facilities.
  • Activities & Excursions: "Sightseeing trips" are offered, and the resort's location provides easy access to nearby ski slopes, the original Woodstock site, country fairs, fishing, hiking, golf, horseback riding, and outlet shopping.
The stark contrast in guest experiences, from cozy rooms and seamless check-in to mold, unsanitary conditions, and fire hazards (due to "cheap electric extenders"), suggests a significant disparity between advertised features and actual guest reality. The lack of air conditioning in the game room, while the owner reportedly enjoys an air-conditioned room, highlights a perception of unequal treatment for guests, particularly children and elders.

Regarding promotional information, Camp-Resort Skazka promotes itself as a place to "experience our special weekends in the charming country atmosphere" at "very reasonable rates." It highlights its ideal location close to major area attractions and its family-run nature. The emphasis on "summer retreats" and cultural events (Russian, Ukrainian, and American music and dancing) suggests a targeting of specific cultural groups and families. Their website details "Trip Dates and Prices (Summer 2025)" with various trip lengths and discounts for children (up to 50% for 15-day trips) and groups. They also mention "two way transportation can be available for the shown trip dates from Brooklyn and Queens, NY," adding convenience for city dwellers. Pricing is available by calling the provided phone numbers. However, the severe negative reviews, including accusations of manipulating online reviews, significantly undercut any promotional claims. Potential guests are urged to contact the resort directly via phone at (718) 232-3050 or +1 718-232-3050 (or the summer number (845) 246-4021) to inquire about current conditions, pricing, and to verify amenities, especially in light of the highly critical feedback. The direct negative comments, particularly about cleanliness and safety, serve as a strong cautionary note despite any positive promotional language.

In conclusion, Camp-Resort Skazka, as a listing within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, offers a distinctive, family-run resort experience in Saugerties, NY, capitalizing on its 17 wooded acres in the Catskill Mountains and its array of recreational and cultural features. Its stated services aim for hospitality and comfortable stays at reasonable rates, with a focus on home-style cooking and various activities. However, the very strong and consistent negative customer reviews, highlighting significant issues with room cleanliness (mold, odors), pool hygiene, lack of air conditioning in common areas, and perceived fire hazards, stand in stark contrast to the resort's self-promotion. While some guests have had positive experiences, the severe concerns raised warrant extreme caution. For local users considering Camp-Resort Skazka, it is imperative to conduct thorough due diligence and verify the current state of the facilities directly with the resort, especially concerning the critical issues raised in recent feedback, to ensure a safe and satisfactory stay.

Those who gave more than a star to this place have either been drunk their entire stay or the reviews were bought in bulk. Mold is in most of the rooms, and the pool is not clean and overcrowded. There is no air conditioner in the game room, and this is while the owner stays in an air-conditioned room. I feel bad for our elders or kids who have to stay there. P.S. Owner replied that my review is part of competitor conspiracy. Lol . My family stayed in your "resort". I had to stay in the hotel away from my family because this is how discusting your place has been. Your air conditioners don't work even if SOME of the rooms have them. You have a fire hazard in every bungalow with those cheap electric extenders going through the entire room. I left my review because you suddenly had all negative reviews disappear and mostly positive reviews to appear. All these so-called Russian resorts are dumps that every owner should be ashamed of.

First and foremost, skazka really is what it means - a wonderful fairytale. I had my 21st birthday here and it was UNBELIEVABLE. The staff were super accommodating and the owners were glad to have me. We danced the night away, and ate like royalty. I love the green fields and the gorgeous ambiance of the place. Definitely going back for my wedding. :) thanks skazka, for an unforgettable time - I’ll see you soon

My family has been going to this resort for the past 15 years. The resort has never disappointed them in any way. Not only is the staff welcoming and friendly, but the overall ambience of this resort is truly pleasant. There are also many beautiful places to visit that are in the vicinity of this resort, such as hiking trails and lakes. I highly recommend this place to anyone that wants to get away from a busy city and spend a peaceful break in the mountains.

I've went to this resort for the past 2 years now and I always have a very pleasing experience. Skazka is the perfect place to go on a retreat and spend some of your summer relaxing by the pool, playing tennis, enjoying the great company and staff, and eating delicious meals that are all made on-site. I will continue to go back again!
