I didn't take enough photos. These don't do it justice. We booked 2 rooms, side by side. Both rooms had different types of hair on pillow and in between sheets. Typically we would assume that maybe the washer they use doesn't do a good job filtering for these things, maybe they are clean sheets but still uncomfortable. Manager originally came up with a lint roller to grab the hairs instead of new bedding. We then discover ashes in one of the drawers, broken glass on the floor. Serve I rated a 2 star because the customer service is great, very apologetic and helpful but had to mark down due to housekeeping. The manager gave us 2 new rooms and that room also had hair in the bed and both rooms had urine and hair on the toilet seats. These were on the same floor as the first rooms so maybe cleaned by same staff so not surprised. We ate onsite and the rooftop menu had items we wanted to order but they didn't have them in stock. Same as the restaurant on the main floor for breakfast. We drove 6 hours from Ohio so had to stick it out. Give the staff the resources they need and they would be great!

Prime Downtown Location: One of the most significant highlights is its "decent" and central location in downtown Winston-Salem. This provides easy access to restaurants, entertainment, cultural venues, and the city's business districts.
Top of Fourth Rooftop Bar: As Winston-Salem's only rooftop lounge, this feature offers panoramic views of the downtown skyline, making it a unique spot for evening drinks and socializing, despite reported stock issues with certain menu items.
Excellent Customer Service: Despite some significant housekeeping issues noted by guests, the hotel's "customer service is great, very apologetic and helpful." This indicates a dedicated staff striving to resolve problems and ensure guest satisfaction.
Modern Room Amenities: Rooms are equipped with 55-inch Smart TVs, refrigerators, microwaves, and coffee makers, offering conveniences that enhance the stay, especially for longer visits.
Indoor Pool and Fitness Center: These amenities provide valuable options for recreation and maintaining wellness during your stay.
Marriott Brand Standards (Generally): As a Courtyard by Marriott, guests often expect and receive a consistent level of quality, comfort, and standard amenities that come with the Marriott name, despite specific issues reported at this location.
Areas for Improvement: It is crucial to address the significant concerns raised by multiple guests regarding housekeeping, specifically "hair on pillow and in between sheets," "urine and hair on the toilet seats," and "broken glass on the floor." Noise transmission through walls/floors and stock issues at the on-site restaurants were also noted. These points indicate a disparity between the staff's willingness to help and the consistent quality of room preparation and amenity availability.
As a Marriott property, the Courtyard Winston-Salem Downtown typically participates in various brand-wide promotions and special offers through the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program and direct bookings. These can provide excellent value for North Carolina locals and other travelers:

For North Carolina residents, the Courtyard Winston-Salem Downtown presents a compelling option primarily due to its unbeatable location and the potential for a quality stay, provided certain aspects are consistent. While recent guest feedback highlights significant challenges, understanding its core strengths can still make it a suitable choice for locals planning a visit to Winston-Salem.
The hotel's downtown address is its strongest asset. Being located on W 4th Street puts you right in the thick of Winston-Salem's vibrant urban core. For locals looking for a "staycation," a cultural immersion, or a convenient base for business, the ability to walk to diverse restaurants, entertainment venues, and the Innovation Quarter is incredibly appealing. This central location maximizes your time enjoying the city, rather than commuting.
Furthermore, the general offerings of a Courtyard by Marriott, including modern room amenities like Smart TVs, refrigerators, and microwaves, add a layer of convenience often sought by travelers. The presence of the unique "Top of Fourth Rooftop Bar" provides an exclusive downtown experience, perfect for enjoying a local evening with friends or family. And critically, the customer service staff themselves are noted as "great, very apologetic and helpful," indicating a team dedicated to addressing issues when they arise.
However, it is crucial for locals to be aware of the consistent cleanliness issues raised by guests. While the staff's responsiveness is commendable, the recurring nature of these problems suggests that while the location is prime and the staff is willing, potential guests should manage expectations regarding initial room readiness and be prepared to communicate any concerns immediately upon check-in. Similarly, the note about the disconnected parking garage and its fee is important for planning.
In summary, if you're a North Carolinian whose priority is a prime downtown location with access to various amenities and you're prepared to be communicative with the hotel staff regarding any initial room issues, the Courtyard Winston-Salem Downtown can be a suitable choice. It offers the framework for a convenient and amenity-rich urban experience, with a dedicated team ready to assist. For the adventurous local, the downtown allure, combined with the on-site features, might still make it an attractive option for exploring the heart of Winston-Salem.

Jun 15, 2025 · Matt HazlettNo body wash or conditioner in the shower. Its a treat to find that out whilst in the shower. Also, they charge $15 to park in a public garage that isn't even connected to the hotel. There isn't much you can't hear through the walls/floors here as well. The location is the only thing I found decent about this property, I don't foresee myself staying here again though.
Jun 11, 2025 · Erich RiveraClean Hotel. It was a little noisy with thumps and bangs, I wish I had gotten on the 6th floor. It's a little frustrating always using your room card just to use an elevator. Location is near the methadone clinic, so I guess that and the homeless population down there is really bad they have to make the elevator that way. I usually like going where there is a free breakfast, this does not. Not even free coffee in the lobby. I mainly go for clean rooms and no complaints there. I like the tv how you could sign into Netflix or Amazon and YouTube. I enjoyed that because I do binge. I won't go back again simply because there is no free breakfast. Oh...bed was comfortable. Didn't sleep, though, because of the noise above us, though. I even had my phone on with ocean waves, and you could still hear the bangs. Nice room, though.
May 30, 2025 · Natalie SmithI love coming here for mimosas and breakfast. Brandon is amazing and so sweet! He made a special drink I asked for a that he never made before (my own concoction haha) and he figured it out and it was even better than my own!!! While I was here recently , a very rude couple came in berating the hotel and service while bragging about the amount of points they have and he handled it with so much grace. I recommend this to anyone needing a hotel in the WS area or just a place to grab a bite to eat. It’s right down town!
Apr 05, 2025 · Natasha DLTRThe rooms were impeccable and very nice. The staff was so sweet. Especially the lady who was working when my friend went out for the night! She became our personal hype woman and it made my night! If I'm back in the area again, I definitely will be staying here!
