For those in search of "Hotels Near Me" in the Atlanta metropolitan area, specifically catering to longer stays or a more budget-conscious approach, the Extended Stay America Select Suites - Atlanta - Cumberland Mall, located at 3103 Sports Ave SE, Smyrna, GA 30080, USA, is an option to consider. The hotel can be reached by phone at (770) 432-4000 or +1 770-432-4000. As an Extended Stay America property, its core offering revolves around providing basic amenities for extended periods, featuring suites with fully equipped kitchens.
The hotel's location is a significant advantage, particularly for travelers visiting the Cumberland/Galleria area. It is situated very close to the Cumberland Mall, just a few minutes away. More importantly, it offers convenient access to Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves, and The Battery Atlanta. While not directly walkable for everyone, these popular destinations are a short drive away, making it a viable choice for baseball fans, concert-goers, and those looking to explore the entertainment and dining options in The Battery. Other nearby attractions include the Cobb Galleria Centre and the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, which are about a 5-minute drive away. The hotel's proximity to major highways like I-75 and I-285 facilitates travel to other Atlanta attractions such as Six Flags Over Georgia, the Chattahoochee River, and the Fernbank Museum, though these would require a drive.
In terms of its immediate environment, the property's exterior is generally described as basic, reflecting its extended-stay, budget-friendly nature. However, customer reviews present a mixed picture regarding the upkeep of the grounds and public areas. While some guests have found the check-in and check-out process easy and efficient, allowing for seamless extensions of stays, others have reported issues such as "trash all over property" and "grounds not kept well," indicating inconsistencies in exterior maintenance. The hotel consists of a two-floor building with rooms accessible from outside, and importantly, it does not have an elevator, which could be a factor for guests with mobility challenges or heavy luggage. The presence of nearby dining options, including a McDonald's for quick meals, adds to the convenience for guests.
The services at Extended Stay America Select Suites are designed to meet the fundamental needs of guests on longer trips. The hotel provides a very basic "grab-and-go" breakfast, typically consisting of coffee and granola bars, muffins, and hot cereal. While this fulfills a basic need, guests looking for a more substantial meal would need to seek alternatives, such as the nearby McDonald's or other local eateries. This minimal breakfast offering is a common characteristic of Extended Stay America properties, focusing on providing essential amenities rather than a full-service dining experience.
Customer service at the front desk has received varied feedback. Some guests have found the staff helpful and efficient, particularly regarding check-in and extending stays. However, other reviews describe front desk clerks as "rude" and indifferent to guest issues, indicating a potential inconsistency in service quality. Housekeeping services are provided on a weekly basis for stays of 8 nights or longer, and daily housekeeping is available for an additional fee. Fresh towels and linen can be exchanged at the front desk at any time, which is a convenient feature for guests who prefer to manage their own room cleaning. Free self-parking is available on-site, which is a definite plus for travelers with vehicles.
For guests requiring connectivity, free Wi-Fi is available in all rooms and public areas. However, the quality and consistency of the Wi-Fi connection have not been universally praised. The hotel is pet-friendly, allowing guests to travel with their furry companions, although specific charges and restrictions apply. Other basic amenities include vending machines for snacks and drinks, and on-site laundry facilities, which are essential for extended stays. There is also a 24-hour reception and a front-desk safe for guest convenience.
The primary feature of Extended Stay America Select Suites - Atlanta - Cumberland Mall is its 125 all-suite accommodations, offering significantly more space than traditional hotel rooms. These suites are specifically designed to cater to guests needing a "home away from home" for several nights, weeks, or even longer. Each suite includes a fully equipped kitchen, which is a significant advantage for budget-conscious travelers or those with dietary restrictions. The kitchens typically feature a stovetop, microwave, full-sized refrigerator/freezer, and basic cookware and dishware, allowing guests to prepare their own meals.
Beyond the kitchen, the rooms are generally described as "decent size" with basic furniture. However, the condition of the rooms is a significant point of concern in customer feedback. Reports frequently mention that rooms are "OLD and DATED," with issues such as "dead bugs left on walls," "mold under counter," "sticky floor," "live bugs," "holes in headboard," "broken tv," and "dusty and old" furniture. Some guests have even reported severe issues like fleas and gnats in the lobby and rooms, with one customer specifically mentioning a bed bug issue. These reviews strongly suggest that while the functionality of the suites is appealing, the actual maintenance and cleanliness of individual units can be highly problematic.
Standard in-room amenities typically include air conditioning, a flat-screen TV with premium channels, and a private bathroom with a shower/tub combination and free toiletries. Ironing facilities are also provided. The hotel offers various suite configurations, including studios with queen or double beds, and some deluxe studios with sofa beds, aiming to accommodate different guest needs. All rooms are non-smoking, although a past review noted a cigarette smell in one room, suggesting that adherence to this policy might be inconsistent.
For business needs, the hotel offers conference space, though details on a dedicated business center are limited. However, the in-room workspace and free Wi-Fi can support business travelers.
Extended Stay America often runs promotions that appeal to travelers looking for value on longer stays. These can include discounts for booking in advance, senior rates, military and government rates, and special pricing for longer stays. For instance, they may offer up to 45% off for extended trips or significant savings during specific holiday sales like Memorial Day. Signing up for their free rewards program can also unlock exclusive member rates and instant savings. Kids under 17 typically stay free with a parent or guardian, making it a potentially family-friendly option.
However, potential guests should carefully consider the frequent and severe negative feedback regarding the cleanliness and condition of the rooms. While the hotel's promotional material emphasizes convenience and savings due to the full kitchens, the experiences reported by some customers suggest that these benefits might be overshadowed by maintenance issues and pest concerns. It is highly advisable for prospective guests to read recent reviews and consider contacting the hotel directly to inquire about specific room conditions or recent renovations, especially if cleanliness is a top priority. Due to the lack of an elevator, guests with heavy luggage or mobility issues should also take this into account when booking.
Given the mixed reviews, Extended Stay America Select Suites - Atlanta - Cumberland Mall might be best suited for travelers who prioritize a low-cost, self-sufficient accommodation for longer stays and are willing to overlook potential issues with room aesthetics and cleanliness. It's a functional choice for those who need a base near Cumberland Mall or Truist Park and primarily plan to utilize the in-room kitchen for meal preparation, but it is crucial to manage expectations regarding overall room quality and potentially inconsistent service.

May 21, 2025 · Vignesh Manavalan (ILLA)Worse extend stay I have stayed in. Booked this thinking it would be nice like the others but no it was awful. Front desk clerks are rude and could care less about your issues and fleas/gnats in the lobby. Trash all over property, grounds not kept well. Dead bugs left on walls, mold under counter, sticky floor, live bugs, holds in headboard, broken tv, gnats and flies in room, and furniture dusty and old. Manager didn't care enough to come address issues. I wouldn't recommend this place to a homeless person. Needs to be gutted and updated.
May 10, 2025 · KeekeeCheck was extremely easy with very friendly staff. I found my room clean and comfy. The bed was very comfortable and 3 large soft pillows were provided. The kitchenette was well appointed, however, you will need to provide your own pots, pans and dishes. You can also purchase them from the front desk. I am very comfortable and feel very safe here.

Apr 30, 2025 · Jeremiah PastorStaff is friendly but the room wasn’t that great. Walls are thin. I heard someone’s dog barking most of the afternoon and it sounds like the pipes are coming through the walls when someone in a different part turns on a faucet. TV kept dropping channels until I fixed it. The room itself appeared clean but it smelled like the bathroom was used right before I rented the room. If you want a place to sleep and you’re trying to save money then this will work but it isn’t a holiday inn.
