Stayed at this Hotel for business for 4 days. Had to switch room after first night because bed smelled like cigarette and the tv didn't work. After switching rooms and a small apology when I woke up the second night I had a live bug right next to my pillow (see photos). I went to the front desk and they again made a brief apology and said they would clean the room. The hotel overall is OLD and DATED and looks like it had a refresh a few years ago. Low popcorn ceilings an a 80's era gold ceiling fan directly over the bed. Several of my coworkers checked out after the first evening and moved to other hotels. I should have taken their lead but thought with switching rooms it would satisfy through my 4 night stay. The bed bug proved me wrong.

The Residence Inn Atlanta Cumberland/Galleria benefits significantly from its strategic location. It is lauded by many guests for its excellent proximity to Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves, and The Battery Atlanta, a popular entertainment, dining, and shopping complex. Guests can often walk to these attractions within 15-20 minutes, a major convenience for those attending games or events. This prime position makes it a compelling choice for baseball fans and those who wish to immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of The Battery without the need for extensive driving or taxis.
The hotel is situated in the Cobb County business district, near Lockheed-Martin and Dobbins Air Force Base complex, making it convenient for business travelers with engagements in these areas. It also offers easy access to major highways like I-75 and I-285, facilitating travel to downtown Atlanta attractions, including the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, and Six Flags Over Georgia, although these require a short drive. Nearby dining options are also abundant, with restaurants at The Battery and various other establishments ranging from casual to upscale.
While the location is a strong positive, the overall impression of the hotel's physical environment receives mixed reviews. It is described by some as "OLD and DATED," with "popcorn ceilings" and an "80's era gold ceiling fan" in some rooms, suggesting that while the property was built in 1987 and underwent a renovation in 2016, some elements may still reflect its age. The hotel features exterior corridors, meaning rooms are accessible from outside, and importantly, it does not have elevators, which guests with mobility concerns or heavy luggage should note. Despite these observations, many reviews also state that the property has been "well maintained and kept clean." The property has a garden-style layout, featuring an outdoor pool, sports court, patio, and BBQ grill area, contributing to a more relaxed atmosphere than a typical high-rise hotel.
As a Residence Inn, this property is specifically designed for extended stays, offering amenities that cater to guests looking for more than just a standard hotel room. A standout feature is the complimentary hot breakfast buffet, which receives positive feedback for its variety and the accommodating nature of the hostess. In addition to breakfast, the hotel also offers complimentary evening socials, which can be a valuable perk for guests staying for several nights, providing a relaxed atmosphere to unwind and socialize.
The staff at Residence Inn Atlanta Cumberland/Galleria generally receives high marks for being friendly, helpful, and attentive to guest needs. While some individual negative experiences with staff attentiveness have been reported, the overall sentiment points to a team that strives to ensure a pleasant stay. The hotel provides free grocery shopping service, a convenient offering for extended-stay guests who wish to utilize their in-room kitchens. Laundry facilities are available on-site, along with dry cleaning services, further enhancing the convenience for longer visits.
Recreational amenities include an outdoor pool, a hot tub, and a 24-hour fitness center. These facilities provide opportunities for relaxation and maintaining fitness routines during a stay. For those traveling with pets, the hotel is pet-friendly, though charges and weight restrictions apply, and pets are required to be supervised. High-speed Wi-Fi is available in all rooms and public areas, although some guests have reported inconsistencies, and self-parking is available, though a daily surcharge applies, which has been a point of contention for some visitors.
The core feature of the Residence Inn Atlanta Cumberland/Galleria lies in its 130 all-suite accommodations, offering significantly more space than traditional hotel rooms. These suites, including studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom penthouse options, come equipped with full kitchens. Each kitchen typically includes a refrigerator, microwave, stove, dishwasher, coffee maker, and essential cookware, dishware, and utensils. This allows guests to prepare their own meals, which can lead to significant cost savings, especially during longer stays. The presence of a separate living area, work desk, and ergonomic chair in each suite further contributes to a comfortable and functional environment, ideal for both leisure and business travelers. Smart televisions with premium channels and video-game consoles are also provided in rooms.
While the full kitchens are a definite advantage, some guests have noted concerns about the overall condition of the rooms. Specific feedback mentions issues such as unpleasant odors (e.g., cigarette smell), non-functioning televisions, and the presence of live bugs, with some guests feeling the rooms are "older and need some updating." This suggests that while the functionality of the suites is appreciated, the aesthetic and maintenance standards of individual units can vary. The hotel also has a limited number of accessible rooms, with features like roll-in showers and other mobility aids. All rooms are non-smoking.
For business needs, the hotel offers a 24-hour business center and one meeting room with 650 square feet of event space, suitable for small gatherings or private meetings. Audio-visual equipment and complimentary Wi-Fi are available in the meeting spaces.
For those considering the Residence Inn Atlanta Cumberland/Galleria, several promotional aspects and practical considerations are worth noting. The hotel often highlights its complimentary breakfast and evening socials as value-added benefits, distinguishing it from hotels with limited dining options. Its proximity to Truist Park and The Battery Atlanta is a major selling point, frequently emphasized for sports fans and concert-goers.
Guests booking for extended periods might find the full kitchens and complimentary grocery shopping service particularly appealing, allowing for significant savings on dining expenses. Marriott Bonvoy members can also earn and redeem points for stays, and the hotel may offer promotions like bonus points or free nights. For example, Marriott has offered promotions where members save 20% and non-members save 15% on weekend stays with a 5-day advance booking. Checking current promotions on the Marriott website or other booking platforms is advisable.
However, potential guests should be aware of a few key points based on past feedback. The lack of elevators means guests, particularly those on upper floors or with heavy luggage, will need to use stairs. The daily parking fee is an additional cost to factor into the budget. While the hotel generally receives positive remarks for cleanliness and staff, the occasional negative review regarding room condition and pest issues suggests it may be prudent to confirm room specifics or review recent guest feedback before booking, especially for sensitive travelers. Visiting during off-peak seasons, such as January or February, might offer more competitive rates and fewer crowds.

May 19, 2025 · Michael MogabRooms are fine with full kitchen. All units, unless ground floor are accessible from outside. via stairs - no elevators. Very nice cooked breakfast - hostess very accommodating.
Apr 23, 2025 · David DannerProbably the smallest Residence Inn rooms we've ever had. My bad at not checking my reservations better. They only have king beds with a pullout couch. We needed 2 queen beds. With the pullout extended, we could barely get from the kitchen to anywhere else in the room.
Mar 14, 2025 · Randy CozartThis Residence Inn is AWESOME!!!! The hospitality is amazing, the grounds are extremely well kept. If you have dogs it’s so nice, the rooms are spacious and it’s quick to just walk outside. It’s not super fancy but it just depends on what you’re looking for. I love space and being able to just walk outside no elevator… theres a kitchenette, there’s a small gym and basketball court, a decent breakfast, the parking is super easy and safe.
Nov 12, 2024 · Jaime AndersenI wouldn’t stay at this hotel again solely because of the rooms and property, although the staff was very nice and accommodating. The first room I checked into smelled badly of cigarette smoke, so I requested to change to another room, only for the second room to not have working air conditioning. The final room was in proper working order, but the room felt a bit dark and dated. Wooden walkways around the property were in poor repair, to the point I felt like multiple planks were rotten and at risk of collapsing. The basketball goal was shattered.
