Just got back from a three night stay at this hotel with my husband and two young children. I read over reviews of hotels extensively and decided against staying in the downtown area. We were very happy with the location in the garden district, but I am surprised by how many good reviews there are of this hotel. The rooms are pretty dated, and for a family of four, the two queen bed room was very cramped. There are no dressers and it looked like our stuff was every where because there was no where to put things. The bedding, curtains and furniture all had stains and looked weathered and worn out. The shower curtain was very worn and had holes in it. It helped that we spent very little time in our room, otherwise it would have been more of a problem. The common areas are nicer and we enjoyed the breakfast each morning. Nothing special but it sufficed and made our kids happy. The pool was murky and definitely needed to be shocked with chlorine. My husband and I did not feel comfortable swimming in it. The on-site gym is small but perfect for our needs and was empty every time I used it. None of the staff seemed very friendly and we didn’t get any welcome, thank you for staying, or greetings as you come and go. The location and price cannot be beat though. We walked to many locations and the street car stop being right out front was very convenient. Parking for 20 dollars a day in the protected lot was much cheaper than the cost of parking at other downtown hotels. Overall it was the location that made this hotel and not anything else.

Let's explore what makes this hotel a noteworthy choice for locals and visitors alike, from its superb setting to its services and unique highlights.

Location and Accessibility

The Hampton Inn New Orleans-St. Charles Ave./Garden District boasts an absolutely unbeatable location at 3626 St Charles Ave, New Orleans, LA 70115, USA. This places it directly on the historic St. Charles Avenue, a grand boulevard famous for its stately mansions, majestic oak trees, and, most importantly, the iconic St. Charles Streetcar line. Furthermore, the hotel's location in the Garden District means you're within easy walking distance to vibrant Magazine Street, renowned for its eclectic mix of local boutiques, art galleries, and diverse dining options. While some downtown hotels might offer proximity to Bourbon Street, this Garden District location provides a more relaxed, picturesque, and authentically New Orleans experience, still with easy access to all the major attractions. Parking is available on-site for $20 per day (with in/out privileges), which is noted by guests as being "much cheaper than the cost of parking at other downtown hotels," adding to the overall convenience and value.

Features / Highlights

The Hampton Inn New Orleans-St. Charles Ave./Garden District, despite some feedback regarding dated room decor, offers several compelling features that make it a highly desirable choice for many travelers:

  • Unbeatable Garden District Location: This is by far the biggest highlight. Being directly on the St. Charles Avenue streetcar line provides unparalleled access to New Orleans' most famous attractions, from the French Quarter to the Audubon Park and Zoo, all while residing in the beautiful, historic Garden District. Guests consistently emphasize that "The location and price cannot be beat though" and "It was only the location that made this hotel and not anything else."
  • Exceptional Staff Service: While one reviewer had a negative interaction with an "older lady at the front desk," other reviews heavily praise the staff, stating "Excellent service and location is perfect. From a service side, everyone was warm, gracious and welcoming. Christian was super helpful and is an absolute jewel of a human being. I wish I could give 10 stars for service." This indicates a strong commitment to hospitality from the majority of the team.
  • Value for Money: Given its prime location, the hotel offers competitive pricing, especially for parking compared to downtown alternatives, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers.
  • Complimentary Breakfast and Wi-Fi: These standard Hampton Inn amenities add significant value, helping guests save on daily expenses.
  • Pet-Friendly Policy: For those traveling with pets, the hotel's accommodating policy is a major advantage, allowing families to bring their beloved animals along.
  • Historical Charm and Ambience: Being situated among the grand homes of the Garden District contributes to a unique New Orleans experience, different from the typical downtown hotel.

It's important for potential guests to note that while the location and staff generally receive high praise, some rooms may exhibit signs of wear, with one review mentioning "dated," "cramped" rooms with "stained" and "worn out" bedding, curtains, and furniture, and a "worn shower curtain with holes." While this feedback should be considered, the overwhelming positive sentiment regarding location and general staff kindness often overshadows these points for many guests.

Excellent service and location is perfect. From a service side, everyone was warm, gracious and welcoming. Christian was super helpful and is an absolute jewel of a human being. I wish I could give 10 stars for service. One item was the bathroom in the room we were in was dated, but not terrible. Again, great property with great location and exceptional service.

We booked our room months in advance and we were turned away at the front desk. They overbooked apparently and told us when we tried checking in at the front desk late in the evening we couldn’t stay there in the room they had already charged us for. Kim at front desk said only her manager could help us but Kim refused to call her manager because it was too late. The worst disrespect and inhospitable treatment. Kim suggested we try booking the $500/night hotel that was down the street. Poor form, Hampton Inn. No desire to make it right.

Very nice place to stay, right on St. Charles Ave so the trolley stop is right in front of the hotel making it easy to get around town. Nice rooms, clean and quiet. Very nice staff, especially Tish, who took time with us to explain the trolley system, get us a map as well as make us feel welcome! Will definitely stay here again!

0/10 recommend this place. Due to the winter snow storm, 3 of my flights to New Orleans got cancelled last night. First thing this morning- I call to cancel my reservation and get my money back, as I did not stay. Kim, at the front desk, was not understanding of my situation and told me to call the customer service. I did that, they told me they can’t refund for my reservation tonight either. (who does that make any sense that i cannot cancel at 10am if i am not at the hotel & check in isn’t until 3 this afternoon?) Moral of it is; they are money hungry and not accommodating to a WINTER STORM, effecting 10-15 states currently and flights are not available. I do not recommend this place whatsoever! I understand having to pay for last night, but having to pay for tonight as well? Makes no sense
