We stayed four days over St Patrick's Day weekend. Our room was a 2 bed 2 bath. We found it clean, comfortable beds and nicely furnished. The room had dishes, glassware, and a fully functional kitchen with a washer) dryer combo. There isn't any staff on location with the exception of housekeeping but we had no issues with contacting the property manager when needed. We only needed to contact her on our last day when we planned to go to breakfast before we left to ensure it was okay if we returned slightly after the official checkout time to retrieve our prepacked luggage. The location is on a quiet street about a 10 -15 minute safe walk from the quarter. There is a grocery store just around the corner. I would absolutely stay there again.

Services Offered

Harcol House operates with a focus on providing independent, apartment-style living with essential conveniences, ensuring a comfortable and self-sufficient stay for its guests. While there isn't traditional on-site staff like a typical hotel front desk, the property is well-managed with a clear system for guest support:

  • Virtual Check-in/Check-out: Harcol House utilizes a self-check-in process. Guests receive "check-in instructions and key retrieval information" via email within 72 hours of arrival, along with "a private access code to the building." This offers flexibility for arrival times. Express check-in and check-out are available.
  • Responsive Property Management: Although staff aren't on location, guests report "no issues with contacting the property manager when needed." This means support is readily available remotely for any queries or assistance.
  • Daily Housekeeping: Despite being apartment-style units, housekeeping services are provided, ensuring cleanliness and comfort throughout your stay.
  • Complimentary High-Speed Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi with strong speeds (250+ Mbps) is available in all units, suitable for multiple devices and streaming.
  • Fully Equipped Kitchens: Each unit comes with a "fully functional kitchen" including a refrigerator, stovetop, oven, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, coffee/tea maker, and full kitchenware, allowing guests to prepare their own meals.
  • In-Unit Washer/Dryer: A significant convenience for longer stays or families, each apartment includes a "washer/dryer combo."
  • Smart TVs with Streaming Services: Units are equipped with 55-inch or larger Smart TVs with cable channels and access to streaming services (like Netflix).
  • Private Bathrooms with Toiletries: Each bedroom typically has its own private bathroom, stocked with complimentary toiletries, fresh towels, a hairdryer, and includes either a bathtub or shower.
  • Air Conditioning and Heating: All units are climate-controlled for guest comfort.

Features / Highlights

Harcol House stands out with several key features and highlights that cater to guests looking for a spacious, comfortable, and independent stay in New Orleans:

  • Spacious Apartment-Style Units: Unlike typical hotel rooms, Harcol House offers "luxury boutique suite hotel" units ranging from "2-5 bedrooms," each designed like a "fully furnished two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo." This provides ample space, separate living areas, and enhanced privacy, making them "perfect for both business and pleasure visits" for families, friends, or groups.
  • Fully Equipped Kitchens: A major highlight is the "fully functional kitchen" in each unit, complete with modern appliances (fridge, oven, stove, dishwasher) and all necessary dishes, glassware, and cookware. This allows for convenient meal preparation and a home-away-from-home feel.
  • In-Unit Washer/Dryer: The inclusion of an "onsite washer/dryer" in each unit is a highly valued amenity, especially for longer stays, allowing guests to pack lighter and maintain their wardrobe.
  • Ideal Location on a Quiet Street: Situated on Baronne Street, it offers the best of both worlds: a "quiet street" for restful nights, yet only a "10-15 minute safe walk" to the vibrant French Quarter, Bourbon Street, the Superdome, and the Convention Center. There's also a "grocery store just around the corner."
  • Comfortable & Nicely Furnished Rooms: Guests consistently praise the "comfortable beds" and that the units are "nicely furnished," with "quality materials/design." Rooms are "clean and well put together," often featuring parquet floors and contemporary decor.
  • Excellent Connectivity: High-speed free WiFi (250+ Mbps) ensures seamless internet access for work or entertainment, complemented by Smart TVs in each bedroom with streaming services.
  • Self-Check-in Convenience: The virtual check-in process offers flexibility and independence, allowing guests to arrive and access their unit efficiently with private access codes.
  • Privacy and Independence: The apartment setup provides a sense of "home" rather than just a room, ideal for those who prefer more autonomy during their travels.
  • Multiple Bathroom Options: Many units, even 2-bedroom configurations, feature 2 private bathrooms, providing extra convenience and privacy for groups.
  • Outdoor Spaces: Some units offer private outdoor spaces like balconies, patios, or terraces, providing a nice spot to relax and enjoy the New Orleans air.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a boutique apartment hotel, Harcol House might not always feature a wide array of rotating, publicly advertised promotions like larger chain hotels. However, they do offer value through their apartment-style accommodations and may have specific booking advantages. Here's what you might find or should inquire about, particularly when booking directly:

  • Direct Booking Benefits: While not explicitly stated as a discount, booking directly through their official website may offer the best available rates and access to the full range of unit types. It simplifies communication with the property manager for any special requests.
  • Longer Stay Discounts: Given the apartment-style setup with full kitchens and laundry, Harcol House is well-suited for extended stays. It is common for such properties to offer reduced nightly rates for bookings of a week or longer. Guests should inquire directly about potential discounts for longer durations.
  • Seasonal Pricing: Like all accommodations in New Orleans, prices for Harcol House will vary based on demand, particularly around major events like Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, or large conventions. Booking during off-peak seasons or well in advance can often secure better rates.
  • Exclusive Condo & Penthouse Offers: Their website highlights various 2-5 bedroom units, including penthouses with terraces. Sometimes, specific units or larger configurations might have special rates to encourage bookings for groups.
  • Early Check-in/Late Check-out: While official check-in is 4:00 PM and check-out is 11:00 AM, the property sometimes offers options for early check-in (e.g., 2 PM) or late check-out (e.g., 1 PM) for an additional fee (e.g., $100 each). This can be a valuable service for adjusting your travel schedule.
  • Group Bookings: For those looking to rent multiple units for a large group or event, it's always worth contacting the property directly to inquire about potential group rates or special arrangements.

To get the most accurate and up-to-date information on any current offers, special rates, or to discuss your specific needs, your best approach is to visit the Harcol House website or contact them directly using the phone number provided. Their property manager can offer personalized assistance and information on any deals that might apply to your planned visit.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For us, the people of Louisiana, a trip to New Orleans often means enjoying the vibrant culture, delicious food, and lively entertainment without the fuss of a traditional hotel. Harcol House offers an ideal solution, perfectly suited for a local getaway, a family visit, or even hosting out-of-town guests who want a more independent and spacious experience right here in our own city.

The biggest appeal for locals is undoubtedly the "fully functional kitchen with a washer/dryer combo" and the overall apartment-style living. This setup allows for greater flexibility, whether you want to save money by cooking some meals, have specific dietary needs, or simply appreciate the convenience of doing laundry after a day of exploring. It truly offers the comforts and practicality of home, making longer stays or family trips much more manageable and enjoyable.

Furthermore, the location is a significant advantage. Being on a "quiet street" in the CBD means you can enjoy peaceful nights, a welcome respite after soaking in the energy of the city. Yet, you're still just a "10-15 minute safe walk from the quarter," allowing easy access to Bourbon Street, live music venues, and world-class restaurants whenever the mood strikes. The proximity to the Superdome and Convention Center also makes it incredibly convenient for attending local events, concerts, or conferences. Plus, having a "grocery store just around the corner" is incredibly practical for stocking up your full kitchen.

While there isn't staff physically on-site, the seamless self-check-in process and the easy accessibility of the property manager mean you have support when needed, but also the independence to come and go as you please. This balance of privacy and convenience, combined with the comfortable, "nicely furnished" units, makes Harcol House an excellent choice for any Louisianan looking for a spacious, practical, and serene base to experience all that New Orleans has to offer.
