Looking for a hotel in a prime Midtown East location? Roger Smith Hotel, situated at 501 Lexington Ave, is listed under the 'Hotels Near Of Me' category. Based on recent guest reviews, this hotel offers a mix of positives, including an excellent location and comfortable beds, but also some drawbacks such as noise and dated bathrooms. Travelers from Taiwan should consider these varied experiences.
One of the most consistently praised aspects of the Roger Smith Hotel is its "very good location." This makes it a convenient base for exploring various parts of New York City. However, a significant concern raised by some guests is that the rooms can be "very noisy" due to the "neverending traffic" on Lexington Avenue. Even guests in a "Junior suit" noted this issue.
Regarding the rooms, one guest in a Junior Suite found it "spacious" but expressed disappointment with the bathroom, describing it as "small and old" and not reflective of what was seen on the website. They also felt the room was in need of a "new carpet and curtain rods," and noted that the "curtains aren't blackout," which could affect sleep quality for some. On a positive note, the bed was described as "very big and comfy."
The breakfast at the hotel received a negative review, with one guest calling it "a joke" and "definitely not worth 12dollars," recommending instead to visit a nearby cafe for a better option.
Conversely, another guest had a very positive experience, highlighting the "most comfortable beds and soft sheets." They also appreciated that the shower had a bathtub and was "super clean." While they mentioned that the hot water could be "a little tricky," they found it to be a "neat part." Their room was in front of the elevator and had a city view, which they acknowledged "could be a little noisy for some," but found that turning on the A/C allowed them to "sleep like a baby day and night." This guest also appreciated that the hotel still provides amenities like toothbrushes, toothpaste, and a sewing kit. They enjoyed the "old style furniture" and felt it showed the hotel's "lots of history." They were also very impressed with the staff, stating that "everyone at the hotel was beyond helpful with directions to the city" during their first visit to New York, and concluded that they "loved our stay here!"
The services and features mentioned in the reviews include comfortable beds, clean showers with bathtubs, air conditioning, and the provision of basic toiletries and a sewing kit. The hotel has an elevator and a lobby with old-style furniture indicative of its history. The staff are noted for being helpful with directions.
The provided reviews do not contain any information about specific promotional offers available at the time of these stays. Travelers from Taiwan interested in staying at the Roger Smith Hotel may wish to check the hotel's official website or contact them directly at +1 212-755-1400 (international dialing from Taiwan would require preceding with Taiwan's international access code) for any current promotions or special packages.
In conclusion, the Roger Smith Hotel offers a prime location and is praised by many for its exceptionally comfortable beds and helpful staff. However, potential guests from Taiwan should be aware of reports of noisy rooms due to traffic, some dated aspects like bathrooms and carpets, non-blackout curtains, and a breakfast that may not be worth the price. Depending on individual priorities regarding location, comfort, and tolerance for noise, this hotel could be a suitable option, especially for those who appreciate historic charm and excellent service.

Get directionsThe hotel has a very good location. However the room are very noisy because of the neverending traffic. We had a Junior suit so we expected it to be a bit better. It was spacious but I was a bit disappointed with the bathroom, nothing what you see on the website, but small and old. The bed was very big and comfy. The room really needs a new carpet and curtain rods. The curtains aren't blackout. The breakfast here is a joke. Definitely not worth 12dollars. Better go to a nearby cafe.
Apr 06, 2019 · Aneta HavířováThe most comfortable beds and soft sheets, so glad we stayed here. Shower had a bathtub and super clean. Hot water is a little tricky but that's the neat part. Our room was in front of the elevator and we had a view of the city. It could be a little noisy for some, but you can turn the A/C on and sleep like a baby day and night. Hotel still provides toothbrushes, toothpaste and a sewing kit! You can tell the hotel has lots of history and it's neat to see the old style furniture. I'm glad it's kept like this!! Our first time in NY and everyone at the hotel was beyond helpful with directions to the city. We loved our stay here!
Jul 22, 2018 · Maria CerdaBooked a sightseeing trip to NY for my whole family. I read all the reviews before I booked and I can’t argue that the hotel is old and the rugs in the room could be replaced and one of my blinds didn’t work properly. However, the location is beyond excellent, the staff are friendly and helpful, the place had some great nostalgic charm, the beds were awesome, the shower was clean, and the price was by far below anything remotely close to to their competitors. The beds were clean and very comfortable, there was plenty of room and loved having a refrigerator and microwave for our restaurant leftovers. There is a Starbucks two doors down and a wakgreens across the street. They validate parking at the lot behind the hotel to a reduced rate and they held our bags on the day of checkout so we could enjoy our last day of sightseeing. Grand Central is a ten minute walk and 51st street station is a 4 minute walk. If you’re into everything being perfect in your room, then you need to spend a couple more hundred dollars a night or waste your sightseeing time taking a train into the city every day. However, if you want to come see the City and spend that savings on your experience’s out in town, this is the perfect place to stay.
Jan 11, 2022 · TeletectorGreat location in the city, near Gran Central Station. Small, artsy, familiy-owned hotel. We had a pleasant stay, staff members were very welcoming. They offer complimentary yogurt :) Rooms were clean, nice toiletries offered. Keep in mind the hotel is old, nothing modern, but very well kept. Our room had microwave and mini fridge, we stacked with snacks for our midnight cravings.
Aug 24, 2018 · Laura MedinaWe really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The hotel definitely takes you to an earlier time, with its historical vibe! The staff was friendly and helpful, and we really appreciated the yogurt and granola station. Rooms were clean, comfortable, and great views. Perfect location in NYC! Would definitely stay again!
