The environment at Royal Extended Stay Alcoa is that of a practical, no-frills motel. It is designed to offer basic accommodation at a competitive price point. Guest experiences, as reflected in online reviews, paint a mixed picture regarding the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the property. While some guests highlight the friendly and helpful nature of certain staff members, particularly in instances of personalized assistance like airport rides, other reviews mention significant concerns regarding room conditions, including cleanliness issues (e.g., dirty washcloths, trash in refrigerators), structural imperfections (e.g., cracks in the ceiling), and pest problems (e.g., roaches). Reports of non-smoking rooms having a smoke odor and issues with non-working electrical outlets also surface. These factors indicate that while the hotel aims for affordability, the quality of the physical environment can be inconsistent, and potential guests should manage their expectations accordingly.
Despite these reported shortcomings, Royal Extended Stay Alcoa does offer a range of essential services and features to support its guests. A 24-hour front desk is available, ensuring that guests can check in or receive assistance at any time, which is particularly beneficial for those with irregular travel schedules. Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi is provided throughout the property, in both public areas and guest rooms, enabling guests to stay connected. For travelers with vehicles, free self-parking is available on-site, offering convenience and cost savings. The hotel also provides laundry facilities, a useful amenity for extended-stay guests.
A key service offered by the hotel, given its airport proximity, is an airport shuttle. While this service is designed to facilitate easy transportation to and from McGhee Tyson Airport, guest feedback regarding the condition of the shuttle vehicles has been negative, with descriptions of them being dirty and rundown. It is advisable for guests planning to utilize this service to inquire about its current status and quality when booking.
Guest rooms at Royal Extended Stay Alcoa typically include basic amenities such as air conditioning, a flat-screen TV with cable channels, and a private bathroom with a shower/tub combination. Many rooms are also equipped with a microwave and a refrigerator, catering to the "extended stay" aspect by allowing guests to prepare and store their own food. Other common room features include a desk and a phone with free local calls. The hotel offers various room types, including those with king beds or two double beds. Connecting/adjoining rooms can be requested, subject to availability. While daily housekeeping is intended, some reviews indicate that room cleanliness can be a concern.
The hotel states it is a smoke-free property, though past reviews suggest that adherence to this policy might be inconsistent. Regarding pets, official information on some platforms indicates that pets are not allowed at Royal Extended Stay Alcoa, despite older mentions elsewhere of it being pet-friendly. Therefore, travelers with pets should definitively confirm the hotel's current pet policy directly before making a reservation.
Beyond the room and essential services, the Royal Extended Stay Alcoa offers a seasonal outdoor pool, which can provide a refreshing escape during warmer weather. While there might not be a full-service restaurant on-site, the availability of microwaves and refrigerators in rooms, coupled with vending machines, offers basic dining flexibility. The hotel's location along Alcoa Highway means that several off-site dining options and fast-food establishments are within easy driving distance.
The primary advantage of Royal Extended Stay Alcoa is its location. It is strategically positioned approximately 0.6 miles from McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS), making it highly convenient for air travelers. Its proximity to Interstate 140 (Pellissippi Parkway) and US-129 (Alcoa Highway) offers easy access to Knoxville and the surrounding areas. Key destinations nearby include the University of Tennessee, downtown Knoxville attractions such as the Knoxville Convention Center and Frank H. McClung Museum, and recreational areas like Fort Loudoun Lake. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is also accessible within a reasonable drive, appealing to those interested in outdoor activities.
For promotional information, Royal Extended Stay Alcoa, as part of its network, typically offers competitive rates. Travelers looking for the best deals are encouraged to check various online travel agencies and the hotel's direct channels for seasonal promotions, long-term stay discounts, or package deals that might include shuttle services. While the hotel emphasizes affordability, guests should carefully review recent feedback regarding cleanliness and the overall condition of the property to ensure it aligns with their expectations for a budget-friendly stay. The hotel is best suited for travelers who prioritize proximity to the airport and a low nightly rate, and who are prepared for a basic lodging experience with potentially variable levels of maintenance and service quality, noting the positive remarks about individual staff members like Carla. A refundable damage deposit is typically required upon arrival.

The stand out by far was Carla, who gave us a ride to the airport at 3:30 AM. It was a non-smoking room that had been smoked in. Nothing was really very clean. The bed felt like a box spring with sheets. The room was thrift store furnished. Huge, several feet long crack in the ceiling. Not enough bathroom towels for 2 people. The strip lighting was excessively bright with no dimming. Saving grace...close to the airport, and Carla.
Feb 26, 2025 · Steven BledsoeFirst off I understand you get what you pay for but this was not acceptable the room was not clean and there was still trash in the refrigerator but that was the least of my worries what took me back was the fact that it had no working outlets and had roaches crawling out from behind the mirror and sink. I approached the attendant about it and I was not rude and told him about it and his only solution was to reclean it but I already felt uncomfortable. Not nobody would never accept this and now refuse to give me a refund
Feb 20, 2025 · darren middletonSome of these reviews are ridiculous... complaining about planes flying overhead, at an airport hotel? Look, you get what you pay for, it's a cheap budget hotel. That said, I have some concerns: 10 AM checkout is bizarre and unfriendly. Most other hotels in the area are 11 AM. Also, no security chain lock on the room door. That's surprising. They're cheap, only $6-8 each and would go a long way toward making people feel safer. Finally, having three or more names for this hotel is just confusing and makes it seem like they are trying to deceive people or find a loophole or something. Pick one name and stick with it. Other than that, the rooms were clean and simple, no fridge or microwave but I wasn't expecting any. Housekeeping did not disturb me before checkout which is always a plus. Price was great. I'd probably stay here again if they changed the checkout time to 11 AM and added security chain locks.
Oct 19, 2024 · BillThis was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in! The air conditioner didn't work, the beds were so uncomfortable and there was no control of the water temp in the shower. The water was either scalding hot or freezing. There were 2 chairs in the room that were stained and torn. It had a microwave and fridge but the fridge didn't work. We were scared to take our bags in in case of bed bugs. Don't do it! It's awful! Oh and forgot to mention the airplanes flying over all night.
Sep 15, 2024 · Cassandra CheathamChecked into this hotel hoping for a 'hole'-some experience during a snow storm that shut down the airport, and boy, did it deliver! The walls had more holes than Swiss cheese, providing excellent ventilation—perfect for sharing space with the rat family that seemed to have adopted the place. The bedding? Well, let's just say it added an extra crunch factor with surprise toppings of rat poop. The water damage on the furniture added a touch of aquatic ambiance, turning my stay into an unintentional spa experience where the curtains doubled as modern art, showcasing a vibrant palette of green mold. For a dazzling touch, the lighting is one simple LED light bar, gracefully adhered to the wall by the finest tape technology money can buy. Feeling fancy? Just don't touch anything, unless you're into avant-tape art exhibitions. Moldy curtains, tape chic – this place is a masterpiece for those who appreciate unconventional design... or have a strong immune system. Missing cabinet hardware on almost all furniture, grossness on the walls, floors, outlet covers, everywhere. Five stars for creativity in filth – would recommend to my mortal enemies!
