Stayed at this stylish hotel near Spring St Station and Bowery. The interior is trendy and dimly lit, with ornate decor. You enter into a charming lounge and head upstairs for check-in. Unfortunately, I was upsold $40 for an early check-in, which wasn’t ideal, but I went with it since I was pregnant and it was my birthday. The room was small and minimal, typical for NYC, with Edison bulb lighting and a smart TV (though we couldn’t get it to cast). The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was nice—though not the most private acoustically. The shower was decent but didn’t stay hot for long. The biggest issue was the thermostat, which wouldn’t cool below 77-85°F despite our settings. At night the door locks but it was easy to ring the bell and gain entry with our key. Lot’s of great places to visit nearby. There’s no elevator, but amenities include a small business center, vending machines, and morning coffee. Overall, a cute and cozy stay with some quirks.

I had a deeply disappointing experience with Sohotel during my recent stay over Valentine’s Day weekend. My 2 friends and I were accused of taking a Kodak camera from our room, which we were unaware even existed. The hotel charged my friend’s card $120 without providing any concrete proof of this alleged theft. When we inquired further, the staff claimed their housekeeping team had taken inventory beforehand, but no evidence (e.g., photos or documentation) was ever shared with us to support this claim. My friend had booked our reservation on Booking.com, and neither on that website nor in her confirmation email was a camera mentioned (photos attached). Upon check-in, no one told us about this camera either. We simply received our room keys in a slip with our room number written on the back. Even when checking the Sohotel’s website, it does not mention that premium rooms include a Kodak camera that cannot be removed from the room, so there was no way for us to know one was supposed to be in the room (photo attached). Despite our attempts to resolve this matter over the phone, we were repeatedly directed to email their team, which resulted in a slow and unhelpful response. My friend and I both called the hotel on Friday, 3/7, and each time the front desk made us wait while they tried to get someone we could speak to, but to no avail. They simply told us that they were informed that we’d need to send an email about the issue so their team could investigate. When I called again today (Tuesday, 3/11), the staff told me that a manager would be available to speak with on the phone on Thursday (3/13) after 3pm. It is currently Tuesday at 9pm. I find this to be absurd. Attached is a photo showing the response we finally recieved from hotel staff five (5) days after sending our initial email disputing this allegation. They are asking my friend to check with myself and our other friend to ask if we stole the camera, which is utterly ridiculous and quite literally the most appalling thing I’ve ever heard or experienced. This experience left us feeling frustrated and unfairly treated. Accusing guests of theft without proof and refusing to engage in direct communication is unacceptable. I would caution anyone considering staying at Sohotel to be aware of these practices.

Quaint, cute rooms. Small shower but powerful! Absolutely perfect location for breakfast in China town, coffees in little Italy and dinner in Soho or the East Village!

Great rooms, great location and I had a good experience with the hotel staff. They were accommodating and friendly. Nothing bad to say about our stay. Would recommend to someone looking for a 'cool spot' to stay in the city. The building is a historic building with lots of character. Rooms were clean. I appreciated they have a bag drop till the room was ready, and again the next day they held our bags till we were ready to leave for the day. Arash was very helpful procuring a room for us. Attached to the building are several great restaurants. I recommend the Italian spot. Wonderful food and service. The hotel also offers a car service to and from the local airports which is nice

Although the staff was lovely,I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, unless you like staying at hostels. It’s overpriced and as bare bones as they come. When I arrived (at 10pm) the front door was locked and no one would answer it for a good while. Eventually another guest let me in. This hotel has no gym, pool or business center facilities. The wifi is extremely slow. There is no mini bar, blow dryer , coffee machine or amenities in the room at all. Yet they insist on charging an additional $25/day resort fee for - well - basically nothing, aside from what any regular hotel would already provide. I asked for a teapot to make tea in my room - they wouldn’t provide one. But they did offer to give me some hot water if I had my OWN cup. Eventually, I was given a paper cup. My initial room was off to the side from the lobby, with music blasting until midnight. Thankfully I was moved to another quieter room - however just like the other rooms, it had no amenities, not even bedside lamps. It’s stairs only - so if you like pulling heavy luggage up and down multiple flights of stairs, and no insulation between rooms this place is for you. Simply put - avoid at all costs. Good luck!
