Some parking is included, some isn't, be sure to check. Requests aren't really observed. It's a cute motel with 2 floors and a fenced property. The area isn't great, but it is typical New Orleans. I would consider this an "adult" motel. Pool is great. Property is kept up and clean. Management is there until 10 and helpful. I love the contactless check in. I would stay again. There are restaurants within walking distance.

The Iris Motel Introduce

Hey there, fellow Louisianans! Are you itching for a New Orleans getaway but looking for something a bit different, something that offers comfort and style without breaking the bank? You might be surprised to find your next favorite spot in The Iris Motel. This isn't your grandma's roadside stop; it's a "cute motel with 2 floors and a fenced property" that has been revitalized to offer a fresh and inviting experience in the heart of the Crescent City.

For us locals, understanding the nuances of New Orleans neighborhoods is key to a great stay. The Iris Motel offers a fantastic balance of affordability, comfort, and accessibility, making it an excellent choice for a weekend escape, a special event, or simply a refreshing change of scenery. Guests consistently praise its cleanliness, the appealing pool, and the feeling of security. It’s a place that brings a touch of modern chic to a classic motel concept, proving that a great New Orleans experience doesn't always have to come with a hefty price tag.

Location and Accessibility

The Iris Motel is conveniently located at 3610 Tulane Ave, New Orleans, LA 70119, USA. This address places it in New Orleans' vibrant Mid-City District, a neighborhood known for its local charm, historic architecture, and growing array of dining and entertainment options.

While some might initially perceive Tulane Avenue as "not great," as one reviewer noted, it's important to understand that this is "typical New Orleans" – a city of eclectic charm where hidden gems often lie off the most beaten tourist paths. The area is very much a local's hub, with "restaurants within walking distance" and "great restaurants and bars within walking distance" as highlighted by happy guests. This gives you the opportunity to discover authentic local flavors away from the crowds.

One of the major advantages of this location is its excellent connectivity to key New Orleans attractions. You can "easily hop on the Canal Street trolley," which offers a charming and efficient way to reach the French Quarter (approximately a 5-minute drive or a short trolley ride), Bourbon Street (also about a 5-minute drive), and the Central Business District, including the Caesars Superdome and Smoothie King Center (both approximately 1.6 miles away). This means you get the benefit of a more affordable and relaxed stay while having quick and easy access to all the excitement.

For those traveling by car, The Iris Motel understands the importance of parking in New Orleans. While "some parking is included, some isn't, be sure to check" when booking, guests truly appreciate having "secure parking onsite" within the "fenced property." This peace of mind for your vehicle is a significant bonus. The motel is also easily accessible from the freeway, making arrivals and departures straightforward. Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) is approximately a 15-20 minute drive, ensuring convenient travel connections.

Services Offered

The Iris Motel prides itself on offering a comfortable and convenient stay with a streamlined, modern approach to hospitality, including a highly praised "contactless check-in" system.

  • Contactless Check-In/Check-Out: Guests receive instructions and access codes for a smooth, independent arrival and departure, offering flexibility and efficiency.

  • Limited Hour Front Desk: While contactless check-in is available, management is typically "there until 10 and helpful," providing in-person assistance during core hours (9:00 AM - 9:00 PM).

  • Virtual Front Desk: Assistance is also available virtually, ensuring support when on-site staff may not be present.

  • Complimentary Wi-Fi: Enjoy "free WiFi" throughout the property and in all guestrooms, keeping you connected during your stay.

  • Outdoor Swimming Pool: A "great" and "amazing" pool is available for guest use, open daily from 8 AM - 10 PM. It's a fantastic amenity for relaxing, especially during New Orleans' warmer months. Pool towels are provided.

  • Secure On-Site Parking: While specific spots may vary by room, guests value the "secure gated parking onsite," offering peace of mind for their vehicles.

  • Daily Housekeeping (once per stay): Rooms are cleaned and prepared for your arrival, ensuring a fresh and comfortable environment. Housekeeping is offered once per stay.

  • Luggage Storage: Convenient for early arrivals or late departures, allowing guests to explore without their bags.

  • In-Room Amenities: Each room features a refrigerator, coffee/tea maker, free bottled water, 40-inch LED TV with cable channels, climate-controlled air conditioning and heating, iron/ironing board, and laptop workspace.

  • Private Bathrooms: All rooms include private bathrooms with complimentary toiletries and hair dryers.

  • Pet-Friendly: (Correction: Public data indicates "Pets not allowed." This section should reflect that.) The Iris Motel does not permit pets.

  • Adult Motel (Implied): While one review mentioned it as an "adult" motel, indicating a preference for adult guests, the official policy states "Children are welcome. Rollaway/extra beds are not available. Cots (infant beds) are not available." This means it welcomes guests aged 21 and over for check-in, but children are allowed as part of a booking. The pool area is family-friendly with a fence and gate.

  • Smoke-Free Property: The entire property is smoke-free.

  • Minimum Check-in Age: Guests must be at least 21 years old to check in.

  • Responsive Management: Even with a contactless system, "Management is there until 10 and helpful," demonstrating a commitment to guest satisfaction and support.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a contemporary motel focusing on value and convenience, The Iris Motel's promotions might fluctuate based on seasonality and demand. For Louisiana locals looking for the best deal, here are some typical avenues to explore:

  • Direct Booking Advantages: Always check The Iris Motel's official website or call them directly. They often offer the best available rates and sometimes exclusive deals for direct bookings that bypass third-party commissions.

  • Seasonal Pricing: New Orleans sees peak and off-peak seasons. Historically, months like July and May can offer lower average prices, while more popular periods like major festivals or holidays might see higher rates. Planning your visit during less busy times could yield significant savings.

  • Weekday vs. Weekend Rates: Like most accommodations, weekday stays (Monday to Wednesday) are often more affordable than weekend nights (Thursday to Sunday). Flexibility with your travel dates can lead to better deals.

  • Longer Stay Discounts: While not explicitly stated, some motels offer reduced nightly rates for stays of multiple nights. It's always worth inquiring if you're planning an extended visit.

  • Early Check-in/Late Check-out: While these services incur an extra charge (around $40 each, subject to availability), they offer flexibility for travelers with specific arrival or departure needs.

For the most current offers and to confirm specific pricing for your desired dates, it is highly recommended to contact The Iris Motel directly at the provided phone number or visit their official website.

Great motel! The staff is super friendly & responsive so if you have any questions before your trip they’re happy to help. The rooms were very well kept, clean & absolutely adorable with the old motel vibe. Great location, we took the bus/trolley system & there’s multiple pick up spots near by. Gas station within walking distance that has tons of options. No complaints on our end that were inside of the motel’s control 😁

We recently spent four nights at the Iris Motel, and let me start by saying—it was absolutely gorgeous. The aesthetic, comfort, and attention to detail were all top-notch. It’s a peaceful retreat with a modern, minimal charm. But I can’t help but feel like there’s more to this place than meets the eye… Every morning, like clockwork between 5:00 and 5:20 AM, I’d wake up suddenly—as if someone was watching me sleep. No sound. No footsteps. Just that unmistakable feeling. My partner had his own strange moment on night two when he woke up to what sounded like a knock on our door around 3 AM. When he checked, no one was there. And things got stranger. On our final morning, as we were getting ready to leave around 5:00 AM, I swear I saw someone standing in the bathroom. Just a glimpse—and then nothing. We brushed it off and packed up. But just as we stepped outside around 5:30 AM, we both noticed something unusual: the door to the room next to ours, Room 11, lit up green and the doorknob turned—as if someone inside was unlocking it. To our knowledge, that room had been empty the entire time. Given the town’s deep and mysterious history, I can’t help but wonder: what’s the story behind the Iris Motel? If anyone knows more about its past, or has had a similar experience, I’d love to hear it…

it is nicely updated and comfortable with a recent remodel. Solid AC! As others have noted over the past 4 months, you may get a gate code with a message that says it will work in the pedestrian and car gates, but as of this writing it ONLY works for the car gate. Also, no ice machine or microwave and zero flexibility on the 4p check-in, so plan accordingly.
