The Jane Hotel

Myself and a friend stayed in a bunk for one night. For the price, you really can't beat it. The rooms were clean, despite being *very* tiny. If you're bringing luggage, be prepared that most of the floorspace will be taken up by your suitcases. The bathrooms were clean and seemed to be maintained regularly throughout the day. We knew in advance about the ongoing renovations, so we weren't expecting to see the vintage glamour advertised online. Overall, this is a great option if you're on a tight budget and/or need a short-term stay in Manhattan. Despite the renovations, it's a historic building and I appreciate how much of that is maintained! The rooms really make you feel like we're stepping into another era. I would stay here again, especially when the renos are complete.

I stayed here a while ago (May of 2023), but I want to echo the recent bad reviews. The Jane is so, so, so gross... I saw human feces smeared on the shared bathroom floor. Disgusting. There were also several homeless people hanging out everywhere, including on the guest floors (in the aforementioned bathrooms). I know the Jane is (in)famous for its tiny rooms, but they're SO much smaller than you expect. They're also dirty and not maintained very well. I've never been more afraid of getting bed bugs than I was after staying here. If you go in with low expectations, you'll need to lower them even further. PLEASE do yourself a favor and splurge on a real hotel or Airbnb. I promise you, it is worth every penny. (Also, the renovations were well underway during my stay, and it sounds like they haven't made much progress since then.)

The obvious good: $220/night for a private room in Meatpacking is unbeatable. This is a great deal for those looking to visit the city and stay in a central location without breaking the bank. Literally nothing comes close to this price. The rooms themselves were comfortable and well appointed enough. I also found the staff to be helpful when needed. The bathrooms were generally clean, but not great. All booking sites - including the hotel website - make it very clear that these rooms a very small, and you will be sharing a bathroom. Anyone upset about it in the reviews didn't do their due diligence, and that's on them. The bad: the website and booking sites give a very misleading portrayal of the hotel. It's undergoing major renovations, and there are absolutely no beautiful areas that they seem to advertise. The hallways and elevators are covered in protective plastic and cardboard, you have to enter from the basement, and workers are teaming all over the place. My 2/5 start review for service reflects this. All in all, if you're looking for an affordable place to stay in the city and are ok with very small accommodations, this is the place for you. Just be aware that you will not be staying in a boutique hotel - this is like a slightly fancy dorm facility on a construction site.

The bunk rooms are very small, but if you just want to sleep and then go for a walk, it's an excellent option. The location is excellent, and the staff was very friendly.

Just as iconic and vibey as you would imagine, the bar was a bougie hipster experience, they serve water in cute bottles with a pin up etched onto it. Fun touristy/party vibe at times. The shared bathroom is OK and basically clean except one time this lifer in a robe was just in there staring at me from the sink very creepy LOL. Been there as a visitor, a hotel guest and a customer at the rose cafe and the club… as an overnight stay If you don’t get claustrophobic and you’re up for an adventure you’re golden haven’t been since the renos tho… it doesn’t get much better than having the waterfront right there and such a short walk to the Whitney, the L etc
