Environment and Location

Whiteface Lodge is majestically tucked into the picturesque woodlands of the Adirondacks' High Peaks region, evoking the "Gilded Age splendor of the historic Adirondack Great Camps" with its rustic timber design. The resort's architecture and ambiance are inspired by the natural beauty surrounding it, featuring handcrafted wooden furniture and plush furnishings that blend seamlessly with the outdoor environment. From many points on the property, including suites, guests can enjoy majestic views of the surrounding mountains and the serene Adirondack landscape.

The location is "perfect" for exploring the Olympic village of Lake Placid, which hosted two Winter Olympic Games and offers a wealth of year-round attractions. The village lies within walking distance or a short drive. The resort also provides complimentary shuttle service to its private beach club on Lake Placid, known as the Canoe Club, which offers a private sand beach and opportunities for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and even motorboat tours. Proximity to Whiteface Mountain (about a 30-minute drive) makes it an ideal base for skiing and snowboarding in winter. Other nearby attractions include the Lake Placid Olympic Center, Olympic Jumping Complex, Mirror Lake, and numerous hiking and biking trails, ensuring there is always something to do regardless of the season.

Services and Amenities

Whiteface Lodge prides itself on its "super helpful" and "very nice" staff, providing exceptional service that makes guests feel "like family." The resort offers an extensive list of "bountiful indoor and outdoor amenities" that cater to all ages and interests.

A significant highlight is the resort's wellness offerings. The Spa at Whiteface Lodge, listed in the Top 100 spas in North America by Conde Nast Traveler, draws inspiration from the Adirondack Mountains. It offers a full range of luxurious treatments, including deep-tissue massages, hot stone massages, body wraps, facials, manicures, and pedicures. Guests purchasing a treatment gain full use of the spa facilities, which include eucalyptus steam rooms, cedar wood saunas, plush seating areas, showers, and grooming areas. For fitness, there's a well-equipped fitness center with various machines and classes.

The resort features both an "indoor pool" and a "year-round, swim-in/out, indoor-outdoor heated pool" with a unique swim-through design, allowing guests to transition seamlessly between warmth and the refreshing outdoor air, even in chilly weather. There are also three spa tubs (hot tubs) for relaxation. A unique recreational amenity is the full-size ice skating rink with complimentary ice skates and hockey equipment during winter, and an outdoor tennis court.

Dining experiences at Whiteface Lodge are exceptional. Kanu, the signature restaurant, offers a more formal dining experience with gourmet American cuisine, while Peak 47 provides casual meals and a lounge. Guests consistently praise the "spectacular" breakfasts, including a delicious buffet with pancakes, omelets, and pastries. There's also a coffee shop/cafe, a beach bar (seasonal), and a snack bar/deli. In-room dining is available 24 hours. The resort also offers complimentary tea, coffee, and treats served morning and afternoon, and nightly bonfires with s'mores.

For families, Whiteface Lodge offers "extensive" children's programs, including Kamp Kanu, a complimentary daytime kid's program with activities like arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, and science experiments. The resort also features a 56-seat "surround-sound movie theater" playing three movies daily with free popcorn, a "Family Game Room" with billiards, shuffleboard, foosball, air hockey, and a two-lane bowling alley.

Other convenient services include a 24-hour front desk, concierge service, free parking (self-parking and valet), an ATM, business center, meeting and banquet facilities, laundry facilities, and ski storage.

Features of the Rooms

Whiteface Lodge offers 94 "spacious, lavish suites" designed in an Adirondack-inspired style, featuring handcrafted wooden furniture and luxurious furnishings. All accommodations include washers/dryers, DVD players, and flat-screen televisions with cable channels and streaming services.

Each suite comes with a fully equipped kitchen, featuring custom alder wood cabinetry, granite countertops, a refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, separate dining area, and dishwasher, offering significant convenience for families or longer stays. Balconies or patios are standard, providing private outdoor space and mountain views. Bathrooms are well-appointed with bathtubs or showers (some with jetted bathtubs), bathrobes, slippers, and complimentary toiletries, and often feature radiant heated floors. Suites also include in-room safes, coffee/tea makers, and complimentary wireless internet access.

While the resort generally earns high praise, one guest's experience with the Presidential Suite highlighted a discrepancy regarding the fireplace (gas instead of wood-burning as stated on the website) and "hard and low to the ground" beds. However, this was mitigated by the manager's responsiveness and the overall positive experience with other amenities. Most reviews emphasize the comfort and spaciousness of the suites, making them ideal for families or groups.

Promotional Information and Guest Experience

Whiteface Lodge is consistently promoted as a luxury destination that delivers an "amazing" and "perfect" family trip experience. Guests frequently highlight the cleanliness, accommodating rooms, and "superb" food, especially the breakfasts. The resort's comprehensive array of on-site activities and amenities, from the pools and hot tubs to the bowling alley and movie theater, is a major draw, ensuring guests have plenty to do without leaving the property.

The resort is a popular choice for special occasions and holidays, with guests praising the festive decorations during Christmas and the overall memorable atmosphere. The "log cabin feel, large fireplaces, heated sidewalks," and the "complimentary tea, coffee and treats served morning and afternoon" contribute to a warm and welcoming ambiance. While individual room preferences like bed firmness can vary, the overwhelming consensus points to a high level of satisfaction with the resort's offerings and service. The helpfulness of the staff, including responsiveness to issues, further enhances the guest experience. For those seeking "Hotels Near Of Me" that provide a truly luxurious and activity-rich retreat in the heart of the Adirondacks, Whiteface Lodge stands as a premier choice, consistently creating unforgettable vacation memories for its guests.

I searhed all over for a review on the Presidential Suite could not find any, so here goes. First let me start off by saying the room itself was very nice and big. The appliances were top notch, But as it states on the website, (wood burning fireplace) it is not. It is gas, that was very dissappointing as that is why we booked the room in the first place. I do have to say the Manger Michelle made up for the inconvenience. One would think the beds in a Presidential suite would be a vision to climb into, it was not both beds were very hard and low to the ground. Very dissapointing to say the least. I was sore for days after. Over all the pool, dinner and breakfast really made up for it. We did have a great time and made the best of it. Everyone was very nice and we would go back just no need for the expensive room.

I would give this place a 3.9/5. The photos that they have of the exterior are different than what you see in person, It's very underwhelming and almost completely hid by trees. The rooms are also much smaller than what they show in their pictures. The main dining room is nice, but it looks like it could use a good dusting. Our complementary breakfast featured powered eggs and store bought baked goods. Checking in also brought to our attention a $500 deposit required that was not mentioned when we initially booked our room, and the checkout also took 20 minutes due to just 1 desk clerk and a malfunctioning credit card machine. Bottom line, this place is a great tourist trap.

This place is spectacular. We drove up from Boston for a few days up until New Year’s Day. Everything about this resort was top notch. You feel like you’re in the Montana mountains somewhere. Just a few little things to note among a list of others, that make this place stand out. My daughter wanted another complimentary chapstick so we asked the front desk. When we returned later that day a bag was on our door with one for her and fresh cookies. Also, the valet is complimentary, the car is kept underground and when it’s brought up heated seats and steering wheel were all turned on. If I had to point out one small con, it would be the movie selection. Being such a kid friendly resort, they should play more Disney movies or just kids movies in general. The movie selection was very very strange. It’s such a kid friendly but classy romantic lodge it’s amazing. The NYE party for kids/adults was awesome as well. Everything from that to the food to the service was top notch. Downtown lake placid Main Street has a nice Swiss alps vibe to it as well. We are already planning our NYE trip for next year! Thank you Whiteface lodge for everything.

Service was hit or miss. The person that checked us in was super unfriendly, borderline rude, as was one other front desk person throughout our stay, but other staff were super friendly and helpful. Housekeeping did a wonderful job and were friendly. Room was huge and clean (deluxe suite), but heat and heated floor didn't work for 3 of our 5 day stay. Paint peeling from ceiling in bathroom. Ice skating was fun, and plenty of skates available, but hockey sticks were all broken. Trash littering around skating area - mostly empty cups. Fireplaces not lit, no bonfires for s'mores except one fireplace that we had to request they light. S'more supplies were a great touch, but my young son got the supplies for us and the person at the desk didn't give him skewers or tell him where they were, so he had to go back to the desk to ask again. Pool was nice, but family hot tub was warm (borderline cool), not hot, (adult hot tub was hot) and there was so much ice around the tubs that several people slipped and almost fell, which could have been catastrophic. Cannot believe no one took care of ice build-up around the pool, nor were there caution signs posted. Gameroom was fun, but some of the games were missing parts, and again, there was trash all over. I never saw a single staff member cleaning common areas. Spa service (massage and wrap) was good, but not great, especially for the price (tip was included in price). Definitely not "deep tissue" as described. Food was fine but not great and servers were also fine but not great (with the exception of Mike in Peak 47, who was fantastic!!). I was expecting so much more. WFL did not live up to its reputation. In summary, it was fine. Probably better for little kids than younger teens or adults. Eat in town and keep your expectations low(er). This is not a fancy resort. Perhaps it was at one point, but it has lost its luster.
