This was not the stay I was anticipating. I always try to get a higher floor as I love the windows in my room. I arrived and they did not have the room that I had booked and they sent me to a room in the basementš(I kid you not) I was told your rooms on the first floor so I just told myself to deal with it. It was awful. I looked out the window, and I could see the sidewalk where people are walking by. We never had our room cleaned. It was just one big disappointment after another. Thereās no plug by the nightstand so my phone had to be on the opposite side of the room. No kettle, no coffee pot no bottle of water offeredš I might as well have stayed at the red roof in. I donāt mean to sound like a snob, but you should get what you pay for and you definitely donāt get it in this hotel. I could go on and on about all the things that this room lacks Just do yourself a favor and donāt stay here.. Iām an IHG platinum member I have been very loyal to this hotel group, but Iām seriously considering a big change.

The Kimpton Hotel Monaco Washington DC, typical of the Kimpton brand, aims to offer a range of distinctive services and amenities designed to create a personalized and comfortable stay for its guests.
However, it is crucial for potential guests to be aware of significant concerns raised in recent customer reviews. These include issues with room cleanliness (rooms not being cleaned), maintenance (AC problems, lack of plugs by nightstands, no in-room coffee/kettle/water), and particularly with staff professionalism and hospitality (rude staff, refusal to bring basic condiments, inconsistent room service availability). There are also reports of smoking in basement-level hallways affecting air quality in adjacent rooms. These points suggest that while the advertised services are extensive, the execution and consistent quality of these services may vary.

However, it's essential for D.C. locals to weigh these advantages against recent customer feedback. While the location and the Kimpton brand's general ethos are appealing, concerns regarding inconsistent room quality (e.g., basement rooms), missing basic in-room amenities (like coffee makers), and notably, issues with staff professionalism and responsiveness, should be carefully considered. Reports of smoking in certain areas also highlight potential comfort concerns.

It offers a unique character that differentiates it, but awareness of recent guest experiences is key to setting appropriate expectations.

Jun 17, 2025 Ā· katherine McDorman MaczkaI rarely leave reviews, but this stay was so disappointing that I feel compelled to warn others. From the moment I arrived, the hotel staff acted as though every request was a burden. Although they advertise room service, when I tried to order breakfast, I was told, āno one is staffed for room service at that time.ā When I did manage to get food delivered to my room, asking for basic condiments like salt and pepper was met with visible attitudeāand they outright refused to bring them. While one person at the front desk was kind and helpful, the rest of the staff were rude, unwelcoming, and made it clear they didnāt want to be there. To make matters worse, some rooms are located in the basement level, where staff regularly smoke right outside the doors. As a result, the entire hallway and rooms in that area reek of smoke. This was by far one of the worst hotel experiences Iāve had, especially considering the price. The lack of professionalism and basic hospitality is unacceptable. I strongly advise staying elsewhere. Iāll be asking my company to re-evaluate their preferential treatment of this hotel.
May 22, 2025 Ā· Justin McNealyThe high ceilings throughout were stunning. The room was small but had a comfortable bed and a spacious bathroom. Water pressure in the shower was pretty good. Room was good. Staff at the desk was nice and helpful. The restaurant wasn't great. But there are many options in town.
Mar 23, 2025 Ā· Kelly Powers-DumontSo this place is very well located hence my original booking. However the rooms are dated - my room toilet blocked 4 times because itās an older style flush system. The rooms were too warm and AC taking too long to cool it down. The bar - another reason I booked this hotel is where I like to watch sports at the end of a long working day. Other than Saturday night - all other of the 4 remaining nights the bars (both) were booked for private events. Leaving nowhere to go Watch sports. I was very disappointed in my booking here.
May 17, 2025 Ā· Baljit SilveExcellent location! Walking distance to almost everything we wanted to see and lots of great restaurants in this area - Penn Quarters. The location is spectacular. Lots of attractions, museums, and good restaurants. The valet parking was very friendly and easy. Staff were nice all around.
