A Stay of Transition: SpringHill Suites New Orleans - Potential Underneath the Present Imperfection My recent stay at the SpringHill Suites in New Orleans was... an experience in progress. It's clear this establishment is undergoing some much-needed renovations, which offers a glimmer of hope for the future, but the present state leaves much to be desired and feels decidedly outdated. Stepping into the lobby, you're greeted by a somewhat tired aesthetic. While the furniture seemed relatively new in places, the overall color scheme and general ambiance felt like a throwback to a bygone era. The hallways leading to the rooms were particularly telling. It was quite noticeable that baseboards were missing in several sections, leaving an unfinished and frankly, a bit rough look where the walls met the carpet. The room itself continued this narrative, extending even to the decor. One painting above the worn couch was noticeably off-center, creating a visual imbalance with the seating below it. In another instance, a painting was clearly crooked, not level on the wall, with its lower right corner visibly sagging downwards. The bathroom further exemplified the lack of attention to detail. It featured a dated showerhead that looked like it had seen better days, and the grout throughout the bathroom was clearly dirty and appeared to be overlooked during routine cleanings. The door hinge to the bathroom was visibly rusted, and even the light fixture on the ceiling showed signs of rust, further emphasizing the lack of recent upkeep. Adding to the list of minor but noticeable flaws, the lid to the back of the toilet tank was clearly the improper size and fit, making it look out of place and rather unsightly. I was also quite concerned to find that the door lock mechanism was loose, with the mounting screws seemingly tampered with, as though someone had attempted to gain entry to the room. This was a significant worry regarding the security of my belongings and my personal safety. The seating area in the room also contributed to the dated feel. The couch looked worn and tired, with visible sagging in the cushions. It certainly wasn't the kind of couch you'd want to relax on for an extended period. Beyond the hotel's interior, I also had some concerns regarding the immediate surroundings. On a couple of evenings when I stepped outside the front door, I noticed individuals lingering in their cars in the vicinity. One person, in particular, seemed to be there for extended periods. This made me feel somewhat uneasy and raised questions about the overall safety and security of the area, especially after dark. However, amidst these shortcomings, there was a genuine bright spot: the friendliness and courtesy of the front desk clerk. From check-in to answering my questions throughout my stay, they were consistently welcoming, helpful, and efficient. Their positive attitude and willingness to assist were truly the best feature of the entire hotel and provided a much-needed contrast to the otherwise underwhelming environment. Overall, the [Hotel Name] in New Orleans feels like a hotel caught in the middle of a transformation, both internally and perhaps externally. While I appreciate the signs of future improvement within the building, my stay was marred by the pervasive sense of an outdated property with numerous small but significant details lacking, compounded by the unsettling atmosphere I sometimes encountered just outside the hotel at night and a serious concern for room security due to the loose and potentially tampered-with door lock, further underscored by the carelessly hung artwork, the visibly unclean bathroom grout, and the ill-fitting toilet tank lid.

SpringHill Suites New Orleans Warehouse Arts District Introduce

Hey there, fellow Louisianians! When you’re planning a trip into the heart of New Orleans, especially if it involves attending a convention, visiting the phenomenal National WWII Museum, or simply exploring the vibrant Warehouse Arts District, finding a hotel that balances location with comfort is key. Today, we're going to dive into the SpringHill Suites New Orleans Warehouse Arts District. As locals, we appreciate direct information, so we'll give you a factual, engaging, and slightly promotional, but always honest, overview of what you can expect from this Marriott property.

The SpringHill Suites New Orleans Warehouse Arts District is an all-suite hotel, which is a great perk for families or those needing a bit more space during their stay. It's housed in a restored historic building that was once a Molasses Warehouse, blending a timeless aura with a trendy style. While it aims to provide a seamless experience for visitors, whether they're in town for Mardi Gras, music festivals, or meetings, it's worth noting that it appears to be in a period of transition, with ongoing renovations. This means while there's clear potential for future improvements, your current experience might reflect some of these ongoing changes. Nevertheless, its location is a definite highlight for many, especially those looking to be close to the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

Location and Accessibility

The SpringHill Suites New Orleans Warehouse Arts District boasts an excellent address at 301 St Joseph St, New Orleans, LA 70130, USA. This places it right in the heart of the energetic Warehouse Arts District, a neighborhood celebrated for its converted industrial spaces, art galleries, and acclaimed museums. Its location offers unparalleled accessibility to several major New Orleans attractions and points of interest:

  • Ernest N. Morial Convention Center: This is arguably its biggest draw. The hotel is located literally steps away from the Convention Center, often cited as just a 0.1 to 0.2 miles (or 5-minute walk). This makes it incredibly convenient for business travelers and conference attendees, often a primary reason for choosing this hotel.
  • The National WWII Museum: Another significant advantage is its close proximity to the highly-rated National WWII Museum, which is about a 9-minute walk (0.7 km or 0.5 miles) away. This allows easy access for history buffs.
  • The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk: For those looking to shop, the Riverwalk Outlets are about 0.3 miles (0.5 km) away, offering a variety of retail options along the Mississippi River.
  • French Quarter & Bourbon Street: While not directly in the French Quarter, it's a manageable walk (approximately 0.6 miles or 1 km to Canal Street, and slightly further into Bourbon Street) or a short cab/ride-share away, allowing guests to experience the vibrancy of the historic district.
  • Julia Street Cruise Terminal & Port of New Orleans: It's also very close to the Julia Street Cruise Terminal and the Port of New Orleans (Port of New Orleans is within walking distance), making it convenient for those embarking on cruises.
  • Public Transportation: Streetcar lines and bus routes are accessible within walking distance, providing options for exploring other parts of the city, including Magazine Street.

The convenience of this location is consistently highlighted by visitors, making it a strong contender for those prioritizing easy access to major venues and attractions.

Features / Highlights

The SpringHill Suites New Orleans Warehouse Arts District has several features that make it an attractive option, particularly for certain types of travelers:

  • All-Suite Layout: Every room is a suite, providing extra space with separate sitting areas, a sofa bed, mini-fridge, and microwave. This is ideal for families or those needing more room to spread out.
  • Complimentary Breakfast: The included hot breakfast is a valuable perk, saving guests time and money on morning meals.
  • Prime Convention Center Proximity: For attendees of events at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, the hotel's walking-distance location is a significant convenience.

  • Outdoor Pool: The presence of an outdoor pool offers a pleasant spot to relax and cool down, especially on warm New Orleans days.
  • Pet-Friendly Policy: Its willingness to accommodate pets (for a fee) makes it a viable option for travelers who wish to bring their furry companions.

It's important for potential guests to also be aware of some areas mentioned in recent reviews. While renovations are underway, some guests have noted outdated aesthetics in hallways and rooms (e.g., missing baseboards, off-center or crooked artwork, worn couches, dirty grout, rusted fixtures, and ill-fitting toilet tank lids). Concerns about loose door lock mechanisms affecting room security and an "unsettling atmosphere" with individuals lingering in cars outside the hotel at night were also raised. Noise from thin walls and a nearby nightclub might affect light sleepers.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For us Louisianians, especially when we’re making a quick trip into New Orleans for an event or a family outing, the SpringHill Suites New Orleans Warehouse Arts District presents a compelling, albeit imperfect, option. Its strongest selling point, hands down, is its incredible location. Being able to walk to the Convention Center, the WWII Museum, and the Riverwalk means less time dealing with parking hassles (and those $42/day valet fees!) and more time enjoying the city. We know New Orleans can be busy, and direct access to major attractions is a huge convenience for any local.

The all-suite layout is also a big plus for families or groups. Having that extra space, a mini-fridge, and a microwave makes a significant difference, especially when traveling with kids or planning to save a bit by having some meals in the room. And, of course, the complimentary breakfast is always a welcome amenity, helping to start the day without an extra cost. The fact that it's pet-friendly also means our furry family members can join in on the New Orleans adventure, a feature that many of us appreciate.

While some recent reviews highlight that the hotel is undergoing renovations and may show signs of wear in certain areas, and there have been mentions of concerns regarding exterior surroundings and room security, the excellent front desk staff are consistently praised for their friendliness and helpfulness. This local hospitality goes a long way. For a practical stay in a prime location with space and some key amenities, and if you can look past some of the current aesthetic imperfections or are a heavy sleeper, SpringHill Suites New Orleans Warehouse Arts District can still serve as a very suitable base for your next visit to the Big Easy.

We planned our trip to New Orleans last minute so looking for a hotel that allows pets and a family of 5 was a bit harder to find. We found this place and most of the reviews were good. We got there Sunday evening and right away we were stopped by a sign that says Vallet Parking $42 . This is $42 per day that you are at the hotel. You can leave as many times as you please but pay for every night you are there. There is a parking lot across the street that may be cheaper but I am not sure. The lobby was beautiful and I loved it. Checking in was pretty easy. If you are traveling with pets they charge you a $100 “ cleaning fee” . Once we got to our floor it was not as beautiful as the lobby . The walls were coming apart and could use some maintenance. There was some trash in the hallway due to housekeeping coming about every 3 days. Once in the room it was nice . The beds were decent and the couch bed was okay. Restrooms were nice as well. The room came with sink, mini fridge and a microwave. Our stay was good and we went sightseeing. Once we got our bill they charge you for many random fees beyond the usual tourist fee and all that. They charge you random fees so just a heads up when paying.

Had a great stay before a cruise. The hotel is a fairly good walk to the cruise terminal area, but not impossible for those without mobility issues. The WWII museum is also not that far. The hotel has a wonderful free breakfast, the rooms are nicely appointed and clean and the staff is very accommodating. Loved the separate sitting area and kitchenette with sink fridge and microwave.

Unfortunately, I am not pleased with my stay. The housekeeping supervisor or inspectors are not doing their jobs properly. The first day, the vent on the a/c had to be fixed because it was making this loud tea kettle noise and the tv in the bedroom does not work. Also, I noticed that the toilet was hard to flush and on the second day it stopped working. The maintenance guy had to change out the chain and another piece. Hopefully, nothing else occurs tomorrow. I did ask if the rooms are inspected after every checkout and was told that it is supposed to be inspected. There was no night manager and I was told that I could speak to someone in the morning. I didn't change rooms tonight, but will possibly do so tomorrow. I just don't want to go from a bad to worse situation. I will say that the maintenance guy attended to all of the issues and got the tv working on the second night; however, I don't think the housekeeping supervisor or inspectors are doing there jobs. Again, kuddos to the maintenance guy, but clearly inspections are not being done after every stay...
