At this price point, in the NYC area, your only other real option is a hostel with a shared bathroom, so I was pleasantly surprised when The Baltic turned out to be better than expected. The rooms are spartan but clean and modern. I prefer hard floors in a hotel, as it's easier to tell that they're clean. (The rooms here have polished concrete floors.) The bed was firm (which I also prefer) and towels and linens were clean and in good shape. My room on the 4th floor had an amazing, sweeping view of the Manhattan skyline and I loved that the windows opened to let in some fresh air. You also get an enormous TV and a rainshower - amenities I didn't expect. The picture of my room showed a refrigerator and microwave, which were not present, but both were available to me in the common area. The location is smack dab in the middle of a working class neighborhood, so there is no Starbucks around the corner and you may pass by some places that would make a rural person nervous, but as a city person I never once felt unsafe and it was an easy (and pleasant) walk to shops, restaurants and transit. Overall, I think it's an unbeatable deal for staying in NYC, I loved the local Brooklyn vibe, and I was impressed with the facilities, staff and gourmet bagels at breakfast. Will stay here again.

The Baltic Hotel Introduce

The Baltic Hotel is a charming and affordable lodging option situated in the vibrant neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City. This establishment provides an ideal base for travelers seeking a mix of convenience, comfort, and a touch of local charm. With its strategic location and friendly service, The Baltic Hotel offers a great value for visitors exploring the NYC area.

The hotel boasts a range of amenities that make it stand out among budget-friendly options. Rooms are designed with modern aesthetics, featuring polished concrete floors, large TVs, and rain showers—details that exceed expectations for its price point. While some guests have noted minor issues like noise from nearby front desk areas or room configurations (such as the presence of a pull-out couch in "two-bed" rooms), overall, the accommodations are clean and well-maintained.

One of the standout features of The Baltic Hotel is its location in a working-class neighborhood. While this means guests can enjoy a authentic Brooklyn experience without the premium prices of more touristy areas, it also offers easy access to local shops, restaurants, and public transportation. The hotel’s proximity to major NYC attractions makes it an ideal choice for both leisure and business travelers.

Additional services include breakfast with gourmet bagels, which has been a hit among guests, and access to shared kitchen facilities. However, be aware that certain amenities like refrigerators and microwaves are only available in the common areas, not in individual rooms. The hotel also charges a $100 deposit, which is refundable upon departure—a detail that some guests have found less than transparent.

Customer feedback highlights both the pros and cons of staying at The Baltic Hotel. Many guests praise its unbeatable value, clean and modern rooms, and the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the neighborhood. Others have expressed concerns about noise levels in certain rooms and the limited amenities in individual units. Despite these minor drawbacks, the hotel’s central location and budget-friendly pricing continue to attract repeat visitors.

If you’re looking for a place to stay that offers a true taste of Brooklyn without breaking the bank, The Baltic Hotel is worth considering. Just be sure to check room availability and configurations in advance to ensure it meets your specific needs.

The rooms are awful. No room should be right next to the front desk or in the lobby. They put us in a room next to the front desk and lobby and you can hear everything. Every single conversation and people coming in and out of the building the walls are paper thin. We got a “two bed” room but really there was only a queen sized bed and a pull out couch. The bathroom sink is also really tiny and you can’t wash your face without water spilling all over the floor. I wouldn’t recommend booking here. They will charge you a $100 deposit that you get back after you leave. However, this wasn’t disclosed when I initially booked the hotel room. They also have snacks and water in lobby but you have to pay for it. $4 + tax for a water bottle I could get at the nearby bodega for a dollar is robbery. Only good thing about this hotel is that it’s in a convenient location and only good for a 1-2 night stay. If you value your sleep, pick somewhere else to book a hotel room.

As a Brooklyn native, I can say that this place really reflects the vibe of the good old days & definitely played a great part of making home feel like home. Yes, for visitors the neighborhood could be a bit cleaner but that's not the hotel's fault. I was greeted with a very warm hello and every staff member that I interacted with after that was great! I would love a microwave in my room but there was clearly not space for however I did found the downstairs lounge area to be quite quaint. Also, the ease of walking to downtown and accessing a major shopping area & transportation hubs is great! I will say that they need to step up on the cleaning. The shower walls clearly don't get scrubbed.

Booked a room to decompress and relax for a few days. It was really nice on the first night. Quiet, had fast Wi-Fi, receptionist seemed to be nice at first, a little cold due to a lack of a central heating system, etc. However, on the second night—last day (abt 3-4 days), things became really uncomfortable. Firstly, it’s winter in NYC—no heat=extreme discomfort trying to stay warm. Then someone who booked directly next to my room decided to slam their door over & over and talk extremely loudly with previously mentioned receptionist from around 11-1am. Which is crazy because the doors close slowly which means you’d have to put force into the door for it to slam. At that point it became near impossible to relax. I didn’t complain because it continued for so long/days that I thought it was normal and staying quiet wasn’t a rule. However, when I played music at about the same volume that the door was slammed/noise was kept outside my door, the (again previously mentioned receptionist(works the morning/afternoon shift)) started aggressively banging on my door to turn the music down. I told her about the issue with the “neighbor”, and she implied that because I didn’t report it to the front desk, it wasn’t a problem. Yet, she was again one of the individuals keeping noise in front of my door. It was an unpleasant stay with exception of the first night. All for about $100 a night, I don’t think it’s worth it. If you’re looking for a place to relax, this place is not it. But if you’re used to noise and having to wear several warm layers indoors, you can manage. Edit: forgot to mention that they made my bf (who booked the room) pay for amenities (heat, clean sheets, etc.) and again there was no heat during my stay. Despite housekeeping fixing my room while I was at work, the sheets wet still dirty??? I will ask for a refund but I expect it to be a hassle with the previously mentioned receptionist.

Dear Imelda L. Castilla, I have sent this to your email also; I am writing to formally express my deep dissatisfaction with my recent stay at the Baltic Hotel from December 20th to December 23rd, 2023. Despite my initial attempts to cancel this reservation due to a serious personal emergency—requests which were denied—I honored the booking, only to experience a series of unacceptable issues during my stay. Key Issues Experienced: Shower Facilities: The shower in my room was entirely inadequate, with only a trickle of water. While maintenance replaced it, the improvement was marginal at best. This lack of basic water pressure is wholly unacceptable. Hygiene Standards: The carpets in my room were filthy, which is both unhygienic and unprofessional for a hospitality establishment. Noise Levels: I was unable to get any meaningful rest due to maids shouting across the hall and the extremely thin walls, which allowed significant noise intrusion. As someone working in the music industry at an executive level, rest during the day was essential due to evening show commitments—a fact I explicitly communicated upon check-in. Amenity Failures: The coffee, listed as part of the amenities, was either unavailable or freezer-cold every time I tried to access it. This, coupled with the inadequate water supply for showering, raises serious concerns about what the amenity fee covered. Considering these significant failures in service, I demand the following resolutions: A full refund of the amenity fees charged during my stay, as they were not justified based on the services provided. A partial refund of the room fee, as the conditions of my stay were entirely unsatisfactory and did not align with the standard of service expected or advertised. Legal Grounds for My Request: Under U.S. consumer protection laws, resort and amenity fees must correlate to tangible benefits provided to the guest. In this case, essential amenities such as functional water supply and coffee were either non-existent or failed to meet basic standards. Charging amenity fees under these circumstances may be considered a deceptive or unfair practice under the Federal Trade Commission Act. Next Steps: If this matter is not resolved promptly, I will take the following actions: File a dispute with my bank to reclaim the disputed charges. Submit detailed reviews of my stay on relevant platforms, including photographic and video evidence I documented during my stay. Report the matter to consumer protection authorities to investigate the legitimacy of the amenity fees charged. I also made several attempts to contact you during my stay to address these concerns but was unable to reach you, which further exacerbates my dissatisfaction. I expect to hear from you within 7 business days with confirmation of the refunds requested. Failure to act on this matter will leave me no choice but to escalate it further.
