The Roxy Hotel New York

It’s a jazz club, not a hotel - the music gets so loud in the evenings that you might as well go to the bar or for a walk as you won’t be able to sleep anyway. I must add that music is excellent. No complaints about it. Hotel decor is classy, rooms are spacious, well equipped and beds are very comfy. It honestly feels like hotel designers missed physics class in school, sound can travel very far in confined spaces…. White noise emitters in rooms and hallways can do so much or rather, so little.

First time here. Person at the front desk was nice not rude or talked down to me like someone else has posted. The room was clean, bed was comfy. The room was a little warm and while we changed the temp to colder I'm not sure if that even worked. I see a review complaining about noise but not sure what they expected considering the website makes it clear as day they have bands performing there. The room we stayed in, we could barely hear anything. Not sure if every room is equipped with it but ours had a "speaker volume" knob by the door which if you want to drown out the noise you could turn that a bit to give you some white noise. Breakfast was good, had a steak and eggs. Wife had an avocado sandwich which she enjoyed. I would definitely come here again. It's a chill, laid back jazzy vibe that seems to have a good night life to it.

The assistant front office manager, Roger B, was incredibly condescending and misogynistic. I can’t remember any other time where I was spoken to in such a rude manner, especially as a hotel guest! He certainly has a thing or two to learn about customer service. The bellhops on the other hand, were fantastic. Every single one of them went out of their way for us. They were kind, polite, and accommodating. The hotel is noisy - as each of the rooms faces out to the rotunda where the hotel restaurant plays loud music until late into the night. Bring white noise and/or earplugs if you want to get to sleep at a decent hour. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. The design aesthetic was a bit gimmicky and just very, very brown. If you’re looking for a “luxury” hotel this isn’t it. Excellent location walkable to some amazing neighborhoods.

Fabulous hotel, they helped me out of a sticky situation when my original hotel didn’t have the room I booked 😡 their room was twice as big and they were extremely helpful with everything. My only criticism would be that the rooms surround a concourse and there is live music etc during the evening so can be quiet noisy but it did usually finish around 12noon but if your a Jazz enthusiast or just love music this is the place to go for definite and very central to all the sightseeing places etc, thank you Roger and all the team for a fabulous stay 😊

We last stayed at the Roxy Hotel, when it was called the Tribeca Grand, during the 2003 blackout when the lights went out. Back then, the Roxy was a hip and elegant hotel, a trend setter in this burgeoning Tribeca neighborhood. The building and the rooms haven’t changed much, except the Roxy Hotel has nothing to do with hip and elegant. This hotel is all pretense. The design is old and the attempt at being cool more Jersey Shore than Brooklyn. The people at the front desk are haughty for no reason. The woman at reception who is trying to look like Grace Jones was laughably rude to us, and my wife forced me away before I told her what I thought of her attitude during my 75th birthday weekend. Noise resonates throughout the atrium designed building, a leftover from a bygone era started by Hyatt hotels. The pool tables from the lobby serenaded us even though we were on the top floor. The band at the lobby bar accompanied us in our bedroom. Our room had a built-in white noise buffer with a sound akin to 16 air conditioners at top speed. Why did the Roxy install those? This is a noisy hotel. Our room was circa 2000, with no outlets for technology. I had to move furniture to plug in my laptop. The bathroom is odd and looks dated, with a flimsy shower curtain holding back the water. Housekeeping forgot to replenish the water or the coffee pods despite my daily gratuity, and I was compelled to ask reception for them every day of our stay. The best thing about the Roxy is the location, still superb after all these years. Most of the clientele at the Roxy donned baseball caps and jerseys, staring at their phones, contemplating nothing more than their nails or their bets. They barged into the elevator before we had a chance to exit, and many reeked of cigarette smoke. If this is your scene, you will adore the Roxy Hotel. However, if you are over the age of forty, and are staying in Manhattan to enjoy a classy NYC stay, find another hotel.
