The rooms were nothing special, although the curtain was dirty when we arrived, but nothing else to say about the room. Regarding the staff, when we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by an elderly gentleman who greeted us in a very hostile manner (no good morning, no good afternoon, how are you, he didn't say anything). My family only speaks Spanish but I am fluent in English so I translated everything for my family since they were the ones who had made the reservation and the receptionist treated us very badly, he sighed in our faces, speaking to us as if we were people with special needs and that was very ugly, although my family did not speak English they also noticed his way of speaking and that was not the end of the story. The bellboy (middle-aged man with white hair and a French accent) treated us exactly the same as the receptionist, sighing and treating us as if we needed special help, on top of that when it was time to check in, our rooms they didn't mention them because they sold extra rooms and we had to wait for someone to leave for them to clean it and give it to us, it was never cleaned after the first day and there was no toilet paper. The claning woman for one of the rooms (just one they clean) was very nice tho.

Courtyard New York Manhattan/Fifth Avenue Introduce

Looking for a hotel in Midtown Manhattan near Fifth Avenue? Courtyard New York Manhattan/Fifth Avenue, located at 3 E 40th St, is part of the 'Hotels Near Of Me' category. Recent guest reviews offer a polarized view of the hotel, with some reporting negative experiences while others found their stay pleasant. Local users should consider these contrasting perspectives.

One guest described the rooms as "nothing special," noting a dirty curtain upon arrival as the only issue with the room itself. However, their experience with the staff was significantly negative. They reported being greeted in a very hostile manner by an elderly receptionist upon arrival, with no standard greetings offered. As the guest's family only spoke Spanish, the fluent English-speaking reviewer translated, but they felt the receptionist treated them very badly, sighing and speaking condescendingly, which was noticed by the family despite the language barrier. The negative experience continued with a middle-aged bellboy with white hair and a French accent, who reportedly treated them in the same rude manner. Furthermore, the hotel allegedly oversold rooms, causing the guest and their family to wait for a room to be vacated and cleaned. The room was reportedly never cleaned after the first day, and they ran out of toilet paper. The only positive staff interaction mentioned by this reviewer was with the cleaning woman for one of the rooms, who was described as very nice.

Conversely, another guest reported an "extremely pleasant" stay at the Courtyard New York Manhattan/Fifth Avenue. They did not encounter any issues with the lifts and appreciated the 24/7 complimentary coffee and tea. This guest found the location to be superb, which saved them a significant amount of walking while exploring the city.

The elevator situation at this hotel is so bad. I wouldn’t book here without confirming that the second elevator is fixed. We stayed here in May and again in December and there is still only one working elevator. It’s super inconvenient and takes so much extra time to go up and down. Separately, I witnessed a situation where a family was checking in and it seemed like they didn’t get the room they booked. They ended up in 3 separate rooms on 3 separate floors. They were clearly exhausted, in tears, and in a bad situation because they were arriving late at night and didn’t have other options. The manager really didn’t seem to care at all and was refusing to comp it or do anything for this family, who noted that they were loyal Marriott members. It just seems overall like management doesn’t really care about the actual experience of guests, which is crazy given the price (we paid 6k for 6 nights). There are probably much better options to stay.

I would not recommend this place to anyone. I stayed here yesterday and it was awful from the start. I recently got married and have been in the process of changing my last name and updating my IDs and cards. The reservation was made under my maiden name, and when I showed my ID with my married name the front desk was very rude to me, as if I was trying to scam them by having a card and ID with a different last name. My bank notified me that I could still use my old bank card with my maiden name because it’s still my name. However, the front desk decided to refund my prepaid reservation and re-charge my new card. This was totally unnecessary and a waste of time. I am a bonvoy member and the only reason I booked this hotel is because you can expect a baseline level of service and quality. However, this hotel stands alone. We arrive and one of the elevators did not work, and by the time we left the elevator did not work at all. We had to lug our suitcases down 7 flights of stairs at 8 in the morning. The room was a good size, but overall not warm and welcoming in any way. The lights were bright white and felt clinical. The windows were foggy and dirty. The reception and service was terrible the whole time. We could not get out of there fast enough. I am very very disappointed with this stay.

The elevator is actually working really well. The hotel room is suffice with 2 queen beds, although the shower water pressure is kinda low. The mezzanine serves complimentary coffee, tea & water station. The hotel is nestled at 40th St & 5th Ave, strategically quite central and nearby the NY Public Library & Bryant Park. Overall we had a nice stay at Courtyard NY Manhattan/Fifth Ave. Also kudos to Raphael and Frank, they are very helpful.
