I guess you get what you pay for? For ~200/night in NYC most would say it’s ‘not bad.’ While the staff were nice, I can’t imagine staying here again.. the rooms feel grim, the elevators literally take FOREVER (which makes getting out in the morning a bit tough), the walls are PAPER THIN and the hallways smell like a cannabis tent The gym gets the job done. Tiny.. with half the dumbbell rack missing. But better than not having anything
Looking for a budget-conscious stay in the SoHo area of New York City? SoHo 54 Hotel, located at 54 Watts St, may be an option to consider within the 'Hotels Near Of Me' category. However, recent guest reviews provide insights into potential drawbacks that local users should be aware of.
One guest suggested that the hotel might align with the expectation of "you get what you pay for," particularly for its ~$200/night price point in NYC. While acknowledging that the staff were nice, this guest indicated they would not likely stay again due to several issues. These included rooms that felt "grim," elevators with extremely long wait times, very thin walls allowing for significant noise transfer, and hallways with a noticeable smell of cannabis.
The hotel does offer a gym, which one guest noted "gets the job done." However, it is described as tiny with a partially missing dumbbell rack, suggesting limited facilities.
Another review expressed significant disappointment, stating that the room did not resemble the photos on the hotel's website. The room was described as dated, with chipped paint, mold by the window, and a makeshift curtain rod in the bathroom. Upon arrival, the bathroom curtain was found on the floor. While the front desk staff member was pleasant, they reportedly lacked the knowledge to resolve the issues effectively. This guest concluded that the hotel and the overall experience were not worth the price charged for what was booked as a suite, which was not considered a true suite.
For direct inquiries or to make a booking, you can contact SoHo 54 Hotel at (212) 226-6288 or +1 212-226-6288. The provided reviews do not mention any promotional information. Potential guests should weigh the hotel's affordability against the reported concerns regarding room conditions, noise levels, and elevator service when making their decision.

Mar 23, 2025 · Ashish AggarwalThe room did not resemble anything shown in the pictures on the website. It was dated, with chipped paint, mold by the window, and an old makeshift curtain rod in the bathroom. Upon our arrival, the bathroom curtain was on the floor. The front desk staff member was extremely pleasant, but he didn't have much knowledge about how to resolve the issue. Overall, the hotel and the experience were not worth the amount they charged for a suite, which wasn't even a true suite.
Mar 16, 2025 · Tinika HenryOur experience here the week between Christmas and New years was pretty bad. Our first room was very dirty and smelled bad of mold, so the staff placed us in a new room. Then our second room was so hot we had to keep the windows open which was very loud because it’s NYC and it’s close to the Holland tunnel entrance. Then when it rained there was a consistent leak from the ceiling that was pretty bad. We should have known since the patch work on it was noticeable but didn’t think about it till it was too late and it dripped on to our clothes overnight before our flight home. The staff was nice and welcoming, but rooms were definitely not worth $350/night. Also the lobby bar and back patio are closed, so there’s not much to the lobby. Location was good in proximity to shopping areas but because it’s at the entrance to the tunnel the streets were always packed and cabs preferred to drop us around the corner from hotel to avoid the tunnel entrance. Could have been because of road closures too though. Not sure. All in all it was fine as we just used it as a place to sleep but wish the rooms were fixed and the bar and patio were open.
Jan 01, 2025 · Zach BrownThey were very polite since the first time I contacted them. Provided great service offering free water and hot drinks. They let me leave the luggage before checking in and after checking out without any extra charge. Although they ran out of the room type I reserved, they offered me an upgrade without any hassle or charge. Great location, walking distance from subway. I would love to come back again!
Jan 07, 2025 · Gisele BrooksI arrived at 3am tired and exhausted from delayed flight. The staff personnel “Mike” was really rude and not helpful to answer any question I had. I had to repeat myself 3 times just to get an answer. I was charge facility fee and tax on top of my prepaid reservation and the staff had no courtesy to even tell me facility available to the guest. No smile no hello nothing, I felt like I was talking to someone who was forced to do their job. Unfortunately I am staying for 5 nights and the behavior I dealt with today is totally unacceptable. I don’t recommend this hotel to anyone.
