This was our first time staying at The Cove but definitely not our last! This hotel is right on Bridge St, which makes it incredibly easy to get to downtown Salem both by walking or with our car. They offer on-site parking, which is hard to find in a hotel in Salem! The room we stayed in was clean and cozy. All the best of modern amenities but with a very vintage feel that I appreciated. The beds are comfortable (perfect for crashing after a long day of exploring!) and the bathroom has plenty of space. Water pressure was excellent too. They offer a game room to guests, which was fun and unexpected. The fire pit area is also a great place to relax and unwind after the day. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, and made us feel happy and safe in our stay. I highly recommend The Cove for your Salem getaway!

Promotional Information and Guest Experiences

The Cove Hotel actively promotes itself as a "modern boutique hotel with a twist," emphasizing its unique themed rooms and its prime location in historic Salem. The narrative focuses on providing an "unparalleled, authentic experience of Salem" whether guests are looking for a "little scare" in a themed room or "family-friendly fun." The recent renovation in 2023 is a key promotional point, highlighting the updated facilities and contemporary design.

Guest reviews offer a comprehensive look at the actual experience at The Cove Hotel, presenting both strong positives and some points for consideration:

  • Strong Positives:
    • Location: The most consistent praise is for the hotel's "incredible" location on Bridge Street, allowing for "easy access to downtown Salem" by foot or car, and the invaluable "on-site parking."
    • Cleanliness and Comfort: Guests frequently describe rooms as "clean and cozy," with "comfortable beds" perfect for relaxing after a long day. The "excellent water pressure" in bathrooms is also noted.
    • Unique Amenities: The "game room" and the "fire pit area" are popular and "fun and unexpected" features that add to the guest experience.
    • Staff: The "friendly and welcoming" staff receive high praise for making guests "feel happy and safe."
    • Aesthetic: The blend of "modern amenities but with a very vintage feel" is appreciated by many.
  • Points for Consideration (primarily concerning themed rooms):
    • Value for Themed Rooms: One guest felt that the "value was not there" for a specific themed room, even with a promotion, suggesting that the theme sometimes came at the expense of practicality.
    • Basic Amenities: Some themed rooms might lack basic amenities like hand soap or sufficient blankets, requiring guests to seek them out.
    • Safety/Practicality of Features: Concerns were raised about the "precarious and difficult to climb" ladder to a top bunk in a themed room, and decorative elements being too close to the bed, potentially impacting usability and safety.
    • Room Lighting and Temperature Control: Issues with curtains not fully covering windows, leading to hallway light disturbing sleep, and initial room temperature being very cold upon check-in, requiring several hours to warm up, have been noted.

Overall, The Cove Hotel appears to be a highly recommended option for those seeking a boutique experience in Salem, especially for its location, cleanliness, and unique thematic elements. While the themed rooms offer a memorable stay, potential guests should be mindful of the specific practicalities of these unique designs and consider if a standard room might better suit their needs for basic comfort. The hotel's commitment to creating an authentic Salem experience, coupled with its valuable on-site parking, makes it a compelling choice for a Salem getaway.

Booked the Pirate themed room for one night; I didn't feel like the value was there for the room, even with a 20% off promotion. The theme was fun but felt like it was at the expense of some basic room amenities like hand soap (which I did check the supply closet for) or a useable second bed. The ladder to get to the top bunk was precarious and difficult to climb up and down, and the ivy decor hanging down from the ceiling was a little too close to the upper bunk bed itself. The top bunk did not have a blanket (there were blankets in the supply closet but they were essentially on the floor of the closet). The curtains didn’t fully cover the window, so the bright light from the hallway lit up the bedroom at night. The room was 54° when we checked in and it took several hours to reach 67°. Staying in a regular double room might have been worth the $300 price tag, but the theme took away from the practicality of the room. The staff were very pleasant, though.

We had a lovely stay at The Cove Hotel. The Cove was very communicative ahead of and throughout our stay. Our room was a lovely suite with a living area separate from the sleeping area, and a little dining area with a sink and fridge. There was ample closet space and a spacious bathroom. The rainfall shower had great pressure and temperature control. The decor was contemporary and cozy. We regretted being there in the colder months because the outdoor seating area looked very inviting. The Cove is expanding, and I am excited to see what their new addition looks like. The Cove is just a short drive from downtown Salem. If you are headed downtown, be sure to stop at Coffee Time Bake Shop on the way for decadent pastries, coffee, hot chocolate, or breakfast sandwiches! We will be back.

We loved our stay at The Cove. The location is fantastic, you can drive to downtown Salem in less than 10 minutes. The hotel is very clean and everything is new. We stayed at the Ice Castle and my kids were so surprised. The bathroom has an amazing mirror with LED lights. Attention to detail is great. There's no pool or restaurant at the property but being so close to the downtown (and in winter) we didn't need them. Because of the season, we couldn't use the patio, but they have grills and fire pits there. The Club House is well stocked with family friendly games and it has a vending machine and microwave. I'm definitely coming back and try a different themed room (you can stay at a regular looking room too). My kids want to try the Forest or the Under the Sea rooms next time.

Absolutely spotless and adorable. Staff delightful. Chic, comfortable decor in a king suite. The only problem for us is that it is a motel format. Hence bright parking and exterior lights. Even with curtains closed, bedroom was bright enough to see my fingernails. It's a shame. Such a lovely place but only if you are okay with sleeping with lights on.
