I really wanted to like this hotel. I even changed hotels the day before so I could stay here. It looked pretty, cozy and chic online. Well...unfortunately it wasn't. The hotel lobby is nice, and so are the two restaurants inside. That said, my mother and I were aghast at the room condition. Bumpy carpets, loud unruly air conditioning, uncomfortable beds, dreary lodging/hallways. But what really annoyed us was: no hot water for tea, no cups for drinking, no counter space, no fast service (even in an emergency) and bad communication with staff. I called at 6:38AM for ice for my swollen foot, and at 7:27AM, I still had no ice; despite calling several times and upon my mother leaving for LGA and asking directly at the lobby on her way out. At 7:30AM, I hobbled to the nearby Starbucks and got ice. One of the restaurants also gave me ice because I couldn't count on the staff communication. Further, when I arrived- they gave me a hotel room next to a deranged tenant who duck taped negative messages all over her front door. My first room also had an impossibly small bathroom. That was the first impression. Then, they moved me to another room, where there was no counter space and my mother and I had to put our items on the floor. Yes, the floor. It was just a weird old aka "historic" hotel that shouldn't have tenants and should be updated (yes, beyond the lobby!). Moreover, the hotel should have better communications between the phone concierge and the lobby...especially in emergencies. For $250 a night, I don't recommend this NYC hotel. :/

I had booked my tickets through Expedia. Upon arrival, I was told that I'd have to pay $30 per night, which added $100 to my total as I was staying there 4 days. Ironically, after going to my room, the first thing I found out was that the toilet doesn't flush. I called the receptionist, went outside and came back after getting food. The toilet looked like it had been fixed, but it was flooding after trying to flush again. I asked the receptionist to assign me a room with a working bathroom, thankfully they were able to find one. So much for charging people hidden fees for service charges. The pillows were uncomfortable. The shower head was too low. I'm 5'11", which is a fairly standard height but I had to bow down when showering because the shower head would touch my head. The room was way too small for the final price. There was barely some space after the bed to move across the room. I had to shimmy my way across the room, and with the TV also there, I would constantly hit myself while doing so. Location is probably the only good thing about the hotel. Definitely won't be staying here again in the future.

Stayed on the busiest weekend of the Christmas period and yet managed to get a reasonably priced room that was a good size for the 4 of us. The decor is lovely and the bed sheets soft, clean and the beds are very comfortable. On a less positive note light sleepers could have a problem with the outside noise and the noise from neighbours above and below. Our room was at the very end of the corridor so people passing wasn't an issue. The desk light and built in charger in the desk had had a temporary fix with an extension lead as the plug had stopped working, small detail but tells me that the management aren't on top of the maintenance and general upkeep. Carpet cleaning wasn't great either as the corners were very dusty. We were in New York for 5 days and 3 of those days had events going on the in the restaurant and bar so we never got to try the restaurant or bar during our stay which was a shame but was just before Christmas I guess. Reception staff were efficient and most of the them friendly, unfortunately check in involved what I like to call "efficient unfriendly" staff, someone who knows their job inside out and tends to role out the usual answers without caring too much. However one receptionist recommended the bar/restaurant over the road called The crooked knife which was wonderful. The location of the Redbury is great and we walked everywhere which was nice not having to take the Metro. Starbucks just around the corner for breakfast was lovely, although in NY you turn a corner and there's another Starbucks so that's not saying much really. The positives far outweigh the negatives, just thought I would mention them though, we really enjoyed our stay at the Redbury and will definitely be back

This place has a lot of charm. The decor and overall vibe is historic New York meets modern day. There is wallpaper around that calls to yesterday. The artwork in the room is cute. There is a bar and restaurant on site. There are multiple entrances which is helpful depending on how you arrive. The staff were welcoming on arrival and departure. The low rating is because it advertises as a 4 star hotel and charges as such (There was even a resort/services fee despite not offering free meal, internet, etc) but I am not sure why. I didn't see much in the way of luxury items (except the toiletries...Beekman is nice). The room is too small. If you have a queen or king bed you're practically touching all of the walls. The bathrooms were nice but didn't have a tub. There aren't blackout curtains or a smart TV. Many of the rooms don't have a special view.
