Absolutely loved the apartment. Comfortable. Large. Good storage. Easy to be able to do a load of washing. Would have liked some extra down lighting but the photos are true to what you get. The door on the street is discreet …. Could be a little more welcoming but 5/5.

tl;dr ROACHES. Don’t stay here! This hotel is not as advertised. I stayed here for a month and everything in this hotel is dirty, smelly, peeling, chipped, cracked, broken, or stained. And there’s a roach infestation in the building. I booked a king penthouse which was not what I got. A penthouse takes up an entire top floor. This room was small, a suite at best, and not on the top floor. It was extremely run down and cheaply furnished. When I opened the door, it left a dirt trail, as can be seen in the photo(s) I attached. There was dirty grout in the shower. The provided dishes in the kitchenette were dirty and greasy. The provided olive oil was expired. Roaches crawled out from the walls. The toilet was dirty and stained a disgusting brown color. A strong urine smell emanated from the kitchen and the living room rug. The toilet paper holder was coming out of the wall, so the roll constantly fell on the ground. The wall sconces were loose and falling out of the wall and would overheat when turned on. The laundry area was dirty, and bug traps are all over, so the hotel staff is well aware of a pest infestation. Despite my report of roaches, pest control never once visited the property. A dirty mop and towel that smelled of mildew sat in one of the washers for the duration of my stay (31 days). I booked an advance rate and prepaid for my stay so there was nothing I could do. I couldn’t leave and go elsewhere. I was moved rooms once due to roaches and the second room wasn’t any better. On top of all this, management refused to reimburse my stay, despite the plethora of issues and it being ILLEGAL to rent out rooms with an active pest infestation as it’s a health hazard. They have no empathy or remorse for scamming people. Don’t stay here.

Kasa Lantern is a hidden gem of a hybrid apartment hotel – super discreet and chill. Basically, it's pretty much all self-service, which I actually loved, but there's always someone on site if you need help. My (very large) “King Comfort” room was unexpected – especially in NYC where space is usually limited. I had a sitting area, a small kitchenette, and a bathtub. It’s really well put together and they even had Malin + Goetz bath products, which is a nice touch. The 'virtual concierge' via text was responsive, they always got back to me within minutes. Now, a couple of things to keep in mind: it's truly self-service, so they don't have a front desk and can't hold luggage. I had a bit of a wait since I arrived four hours early with two big suitcases, but Starbucks next door was a lifesaver. Check-in is 4 PM, and early check-in is kind of a gamble. I was granted access half an hour early (once again, via text notification), which was nice, but it's not guaranteed. Also, I had a little power hiccup when I plugged in my iron, but found a workaround in the bathroom. Overall, I was really happy with my stay! This place is perfect if you're looking for something unique and don't mind a bit of independence. It's a cool, low-key vibe and a great spot to call home while visiting NYC.

Found this hotel through AirBnB. Perfect location, well-appointed, very comfortable & convenient. Small room but perfectly comfortable. Included spacious bathroom, a espresso + tea, and mini fridge & freezer. Would definitely return!!

Not well taken care of. My room had a lot of problems. If anyone was paying attention, they never would have put a guest in it: Big crack in the window, bathroom door didn't work, shower floods the bathroom when used, smelled like a public toilet (smell of sewage wafting by as well as deodorizer used to cover it up). I was eventually moved to another room. It was not perfect but good enough. If I was never put in the bad room, I'd think this hotel was a good deal for the price. The bad room left me really dissatisfied. Dealing with customer service was poor quality. They said how much they cared but didn't act like it. I asked specially not to have more deodorizer added in my room (which they agreed to) because the smell was making me ill, but they did it anyway. End of the day, they finally told me to pack to move rooms. I was out and they said no rush. I contacted them upon return and they didn't respond for two hours. I ended up moving after midnight. It was exhausting. Other than that. It's a good deal for a convenient location. Neighborhood has a bit of a drug problem but is otherwise fine. No one bothered me and I knew what I was getting for the price. Top reason to book here is that it's hard to find a hotel with a fridge and microwave or kitchen. Those things worked and are important to me.
