My recent stay at the Americana Inn in New York left me deeply frustrated and feeling cheated. While the hotel itself was *moderately clean*, the overall experience was far from acceptable given the exorbitant price of **$200 per night** for a 2-star property. Here’s why: **The Room & Amenities:** The room was cramped, noisy (thin walls and street sounds), and had a shared bathroom, which was not clearly communicated during booking. For $200/night, I expected basic comforts like a private toilet and reasonable space, but this felt more like a budget hostel. **The Pricing Scam:** The worst part? Upon arrival, I discovered the standard rate for this room was **$70/night**—less than half what I paid through Agoda. I booked Agoda’s “Book Now, Pay Later” option, trusting their promise of “best prices.” Instead, I was charged nearly triple the actual rate. When I escalated this to Agoda, they dismissed my complaint, blaming the price difference on the payment method. This is unacceptable—Agoda’s “Pay Later” feature should not be a loophole to exploit customers. **Agoda’s Lack of Accountability:** As a long-time Agoda user (and premium member), I’m appalled by their refusal to address this blatant overcharge. Their customer service deflected responsibility, offering no resolution or compensation. It’s clear they prioritize profits over customer trust. **Final Thoughts:** The Americana Inn is *not worth more than $70/night*, and Agoda’s unethical pricing practices have shattered my confidence in their platform. Until they rectify this issue and protect customers from misleading offers, I urge travelers to **avoid Agoda** and book directly with hotels or through more transparent platforms. **Save your money—and your peace of mind.** *Rating: 1/5 (for cleanliness only).*

The Americana Inn Introduce

Looking for a budget-friendly hotel in Midtown Manhattan? The Americana Inn, located at 69 W 38th St, is part of the 'Hotels Near Of Me' category. However, recent guest reviews paint a concerning picture regarding price, room quality, and service, which local users should carefully consider.

Multiple guests have expressed deep dissatisfaction with their stays at The Americana Inn. One reviewer felt "deeply frustrated and feeling cheated" after paying a reported $200 per night for what they perceived as a 2-star property. While the hotel was described as "moderately clean," the overall experience was deemed unacceptable for the price.

Room quality appears to be a significant issue. Guests described the rooms as cramped and noisy, with thin walls allowing for considerable noise from both inside the hotel and the street. A major point of contention was the presence of shared bathrooms, which one guest claimed was not clearly communicated during the booking process, especially given the high price paid.

A particularly alarming aspect highlighted in the reviews is the pricing. One guest reported discovering that the standard rate for their room was significantly lower ($70/night) than what they were charged ($200/night) through a third-party booking platform, Agoda. This guest accused both the hotel and the booking platform of unethical pricing practices and poor customer service when attempting to resolve the overcharge.

Another guest recounted a "worst hotel experience ever" involving a sweltering hot room upon arrival after midnight. The thermostat reportedly wasn't working due to a centrally-controlled heating/cooling system. The front desk staff were described as unhelpful, offering vague solutions like opening windows (which only opened a few inches) and providing no real assistance in cooling down the room, leading to an impossible sleeping environment. A subsequent request for a refund was denied by the hotel, who falsely claimed the guest had not turned off the thermostat.

Based on these recent reviews, The Americana Inn appears to have significant issues with pricing transparency, room comfort (size, noise, shared bathrooms), and potentially unreliable heating/cooling systems. The customer service response to reported problems also seems to be a major concern. Guests strongly advise others to "stay away if you can" and that the hotel is "not worth more than $70/night," recommending booking directly with hotels or through more transparent platforms to avoid potential overcharges and poor experiences.

The provided reviews do not mention any promotional information for The Americana Inn.

This was the worst hotel experience of my life. When me and my wife checked in after midnight, the room was sweltering hot. The thermostat wasn’t working (seemed like a centrally-controlled heating/cooling system), so I ran downstairs to the front desk to ask how to cool the room down. The front desk person said to turn off the thermostat and open the windows to cool it off. We did, and opening the windows helped a little, but it was still hot and stuffy. Impossible to sleep in. After getting into bed for a few minutes, and the room as hot as ever, I ran downstairs again to find a solution. The same front desk person said he would go and “check the boiler” in a little bit - very vague - but provided no helpful solutions. I crossed my fingers that having the windows open would cool the room down eventually and went back upstairs. Another 30 minutes go by and it is impossible to sleep because of the heat. The windows are open as far as they could be (which is just a couple of inches). The heating unit on the wall is still blasting hot air and nothing is changing, so I run downstairs for the third time. Same thing. He said the boiler had been turned off, but there was nothing else he could do. So frustrating. I told him we would need a refund, and went back upstairs. We fell asleep a couple of stuffy hours later around 3 AM. The next day, I called the booking agency to request a refund. A few days later, I received an email denying the request. The hotel said that we had failed to turn the thermostat off, so the fault lay with us. A bold-faced lie. Stay away if you can.

hotel wasn’t good. for about $70, it could be better, but could be worse. this hotel was actually better than the one i stayed at Syracuse, but the only difference was the location. day 0 | once you get to the lobby, you’re greeted with a lobby that looks good. i saw the breakfast area, it looks good too. service was actually excellent; but once you get to the elevator, it was TOO small. i’m not even exaggerating when i say this, but once i got to my room, it looked like it was a house from an actual horror movie. the view from the room was beautiful, but even though you wanted to use the bathroom, you had to walk out your room, and find the nearest bathroom. these bathrooms are s e p a r a t e, which means every time you want to use the bathroom, you have to get out of your room to use the bathroom. at least there were no bedbugs when you wanted to sleep, so that was good. unfortunately there were no outlets near the bed, which means i have to sit up to use my phone. day 1 | when we were out the whole day, my bed wasn’t fixed at the start of my outing around New York. but when i came back to my room, somehow my bed was fixed… which was rare for me since i didn’t have anyone fix my bed before. at the end of day 1, when i decided to take a shower, i tried to lock the door. it didn’t work. when i finished taking a shower, some person just came in there and left. that wasn’t good. day 2 | checkout process was smooth, it took like 2 minutes and then we were all checked out. service was VERY good. conclusion | if you’re on a budget for hotels, you can go for this one. otherwise, i’d recommend not choosing this hotel if you don’t like rooms that look straight out from a horror movie.

The sheets were dirty and stained, there was hair on the bed, the hair dryers didn’t work, and some of the toilet locks were broken. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to stay here. The window insulation is almost non-existent, and there is excessive noise.

Cheap. Rooms are..."you get what you paid for" But over all, clean, so are the shared bathrooms. No sound proofed windows...so you here the traffic. but...Great location!
